I have nothing against Hadyan please God leave that scene alone.

ROTFLMAO! This still gets me every time!

Funniest Movie Ever
Time
I haven't had the time to pick up anything in a long while, but I've looking forward to the new Blazing Saddles for months. Should be out on June 29th with an ultra-expensive-wish-I-could-afford-it-but-can't-deluxe-edition . I'll just settle for the regular DVD.

While they may not be the funniest movies ever, just caught two of my all-time favourites: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (predictable plot, but Michael Caine and Steve Martin are great together) and Clue (hysterical all-star cast).

Not much point in introducing Gwen now, since they already stole Spiderman’s most dramatic storyline for the first movie and replaced Gwen with MJ.

I wasn’t a fan of the first movie, too generic with an inconsistent script and lack of characterization (except for the Goblin) but so far this second one looks like it’s going to be pretty good with some positive buzz. I’m no Ebert fan, but he gave it a raving review so I’m kinda looking forward to it now.

Isn't it amazing how many versions are out there??

I'm getting the impression that these movies are *someone's* playground (*hint hint*). Like a child playing with Lego.

Geez, George.....

Doc
To be fair Doc, many of these 'so-called versions' are just rough cuts with the occasional bits and piece's missing, an were never meant to be seen publically. Most films go through this process of fine tuning, but they just don't have a rabid fanbase going through the garbage for trims and obsessing over every minor detail. I only have a problem with Lucas' major overhauls (or complete re-do's) and saying the original 'no-longer exists.'

With the gear and expertise we have, it should be possible to integrate the LD footage back in and colour grade it to fit without a really noticable change. The obvious way to do this is to insert footage at cut points, so that although you may end up inserting a little more footage than is required, it comes in and out at a cut point so is not as noticable.
I am hoping that the audio mix on the SE will be a lot better, in which case I will be keeping it and only adding/removing audio as required.

I am also doing an 'archival' version of the LD's, which will be pretty much just a straight copy with a mild colour grade at the highest possible quality, (with the missing lei footage) with no extras, no additional audio tracks etc. Just the movies at the highest bitrate possible. Am Also toying with doing a WMV9 version for PC playback, as the quality would be better, and there are some WMV9 players coming onto the home player market as well.
Wow, Laserman. That sounds amazing. It would be the perfect way to preserve the original trilogy. How long would it take to accomplish a project like that?

And even though I'm super happy with the anamorphic set I just got (thanks again Rikter!) I was wondering if you would make yours available to fans as well (or if you need any help)?

Hey, at least you still got the pictures!

Looks like you and your friends had a great time. I've only been to LA once and never got a chance to check out Mann's Chinese Theatre. I completely forgot that Star Wars got their own prints, cool! Ah maybe I, too will some day get my own star or better yet maybe someone will stick their hands and feet all me... err my prints. (And the stone beast is a Chinese lion, just so you know)

Agreed, Campbell and Ossie Davis were amazing together. Not funny enough to be a comedy, not scary enough to be a horror pic, but a perfect drama between two old men well past their prime ready for one last rumble.

By no means a great movie, I nonetheless found the ending very moving, more so than Big Fish even. The extras were all right. The Elvis commentary was a goof, but the other one was pretty good. Lots a talking and easy chemistry. Also I didn't know author Joe Lansdale had such a great voice. He would been a perfect narrator. Made we want to find the original short story.

Ugh, please don't remind me of those!

I wanted nothing more than a lightsaber of my own when I was a kid and even then I knew those things were a bad idea! I could never get the 'blade' to inflate properly (it was always wilting at half mast) and the one time I finally got it right it bust a leak and burst on me. Aarrgh!

I got my Star Wars Holiday Special from Rikter a little while ago and after finally getting a chance to watch it, here's my review.

THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL Review: The DVD has selectable menus presenting the Special, the Star Wars episode of the Muppets Show and vintage Kenner toy commercials.

For a 1978 broadcast taped off television, it looks pretty good. Obviously I mean 'good' by 3rd generation VHS copy standards. The picture is blurry, and colours are washed out and smeared, but the video is very smooth with only some distortion, and drop out is at a minimum. The sound is kinda harsh and hollow, but quite 'listenable' and you can jump ahead with chapter stops. Really, I still have tapes from the 80s that don't hold up as well. As for the show itself, anyone familiar with that era's sketch variety shows will be familiar with the structure. The special opens with a live action plot about Chewie's family on Kyshykk waiting for him to arrive so they can celebrate Life Day together. Eventually, Chewie and Han do show up, but not before the imperials and a roster of comedy players including (Golden Girl's) Bea Arthur, Art Karney, (Mel Brook's alum) Harvey Korman, and others get mixed up in their 'wacky' shenanigan's. Needless to say, their antics are embarrassingly bad. I actually like most of the performers, but it’s all very slow and boring, especially the first 15 minutes when nothing happens. Interspersed throughout are bizarre 70's sci-fi dance and musical sequences, with trippy lava-lamp visuals. Aside from an appearance by one of my fav bands, Jefferson Starship the best part by far is the Nelvana cartoon sequence that introduces Boba Fett. Fans of Droids will love this. I've never seen this before and was surprised as Boba is already a cool badass character. This is well worth watching, too bad it’s so short. The Leia sing-a-long is a hoot too.

Included on the disc is the Muppet Show episode with Luke and the droids. I'm a huge Muppets fan and I love this episode. There is a sharp visual and audio buzz near the middle, but otherwise it looks and sounds pretty good. Like 1st gen VHS.

The real bonus is the vintage Kenner commercials and these are awesome. I haven't seen these since I was a kid and they bring back a lot of memories. I even still have a few 'em! Sure they're real dark and poor quality, but where else can you see them?

I got all this for the cost of the disc and shipping, and Rikter even threw in a couple of cool bonuses. Thanks a lot! You are a true fan and anyone in the Star Wars community would appreciate your efforts to preserve all this great memorabilia for Star Wars history!

That sounds alot like The Absent-Minded Professor starring Fred MacMurray.

lol!

I believe Jedi Master is referring to the professor's bouncing bubbly plastic invention, 'flubber' as in the Robin William's remake Flubber.

Bubba Ho-tep comes out next Tuesday, May 25th.

Dang Bossk, I just caught the Cooler last night and was gonna recommend it myself and here you beat me to it!

You're right though, great flick. I've enjoyed Macey's work since Bakersfield PD.

Haven't seen Miracles though. I'll probably check out GBU: SE next.

Wow, thanks for the article. Most of that was completely over my head, but very interesting indeed.

What a strange time we live in, where Old-Fashioned technology is replaced with new technology that tries to replicate the old (but not quite). People can now tailor make there own specialized versions of movies that are almost as good as the real thing just in their own home (like the OT boots!) when just a decade ago movie studios themeselves probably weren't that flexible.

Who knows what the future may bring... (as long as we don't further ruin the planet)
