theres no way of trying to justify this..
(Removed images)
That isn't a change.

The second image is from ESB, and Lucas didn't give Obi-wan such a strong bluish tint in it. I know exactly what scene that image is from. Obi-wan is saying "Don't give into hate. That path leads to the dark side." He's not as translucent because its when Luke is lifting off the planet.

*wonders if there is a 'going postal' smiley anywhere on the internet.

I'm at a total loss for words. I'm not sure I cannot even describe my thoughts on this change.

In the opening crawl, it says "The evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed with finding young Skywalker, has dispatched thousands of remote probes into the far reaches of space..."

Maybe this is just my interpretation, that says to me that he knows the name Skywalker already.
Now, Lucas has screwed that up, by now having the Emperor reveal who it is.

Well, it's ending tomorrow. No bombing and no terrorist plots. No athlete making a fool out of himself in front of the cameras. No big surprises. Good olympic games, thought. See you in Beijing 2008. And then in South Pole 2012. And then in Mars 2016.
No athletes for sure, but a couple coaches, yes.
Anyone see what happened after the USA/Spanish Men's Basketball Quarterfinals? I didn't see it, but I sure heard about it.
The Spanish coach was apparently very mad about the officiating and a last- second time out by the US team (even though they were leading).

I'd also like to congratulate Larry Brown for screwing up for the USA basketball team.
Why did he only play LeBron James for 2 minutes in that game against Argentina??

Why???
Why was that kind of change necessary?

I think I know what happened to GL.
He was out camping one day, and a badger crawled up his rear end and the pain has made him slowly go insane.

(Yes, that is from a SNL clip...had Christopher Walken in it)

Is there anything that DIDN'T happen on the SW universe? I mean, judging by the EU...
A Star Trek cross-over.

Darksaber was an interesting book. Durga(?) the Hutt was going to use the knowledge of the original DS design (Bevel Lemelisk) to build a new DS to blackmail the galaxy. Lemelisk gave it the cylinder shape. Since it was going to be a "military installation" it didn't need the added superstructure. It needed, engines and the laser only.

My favorite part of the book was anytime that Bevel had a flashback, remembering how the Emperor would punish him for failures. Palpy had cloned several bodies for Bevel, and what he'd do was torture him in some agonizingly painful way, then use the force to transfer Bevel's conscienceness into a new body. The 2 methods I recall are being spaced and being eaten alive by some kind of Yavin beetle.

Nahh, you're just not drinking enough...or perhaps you're drinking too much...

Here are some quick synapses of the 2 Ewoks movies, from what I remember:

Caravan of Courage: A ship crash lands on the Moon of Endor, containing a family of 4. A massive creature, known as a Gorax captures the 2 adults, leaving the 2 kids to fend for themselves. They are found by the Ewoks and the Ewoks help them find the parents.

Battle of Endor: The family, now reunited, is living with the Ewoks and repairing their ship, until a group of aliens known as Marauders attack (the head Marauder is played by the same actor that played Lurch in the newer Addam's Family movies). All but one of the family gets blown up, and the one kids left, and a bunch of Ewoks are captured (for what reason I don't remember). The kid and Wicket escape and find an old man that had also crashed landed on Endor. He takes them in, until they tell him what they found out about why the Marauders attacked.
The Marauders wanted a power cell from the human ship. The leader thought it could bring him great power, except he has no idea how it works.
With this power cell, the old man figures he can finally get off the planet. So he teams up with the remaining Ewoks and they raid the Marauders stronghold, grab the power cell and free the capture Ewoks, then they return to his ship, which he can now supply with power, and they hold off the attacking Marauders. He and the remaining kid then leave Endor.

I've seen Battle for Endor more recently, that's why I recall more about it.

Give me fake looking rubber masks any day.
You, jimbo, I have a thought:

1. Get yourself a really fast computer.
2. Get yourself a really good 3D modeling program.
3. Rebuild Star Wars from scratch completely in your computer.

That will solve a couple things at once. First, it will allow you to create Star Wars for yourself, with all your CG stuff that, no matter how well its done, will probably look 2D. Second, it gives you a massive project, and will potentially keep you off the boards for a while.

And in 30 years, after GL is dead, you can make your millions with the 're-envisioned Star Wars Trilogy'.

Oh, that's easy, look for PLN acronym in the exchange rate charts, easily found on internet.

Today it was: 100 USD = 365.51 PLN

So this piece of space technology is sold for the price of junk.
If I did my math right, the top bid is roughly 6200 USD.

I take back what I said...I could afford it.
But, besides to say I own a Russian shuttle, would I (or anyone) want it?

You might not believe Lucas said this...
Time

The following text is from an article I just found on the msnbc website:
Stooges DVD revives colorization debate

Quote

“Star Wars” creator George Lucas, who testified with Steven Spielberg before Congress in the 1980s against colorization and other forms of alteration, said the process yanks such slapstick performers as the Stooges out of the black-and-white universe they belong in.

“Would color distract from their comedy and make it not as funny anymore?” Lucas said. “Maybe just the fact that they’re in black and white makes it funny, because their humor is dated. But by putting it in black and white, it puts it in a context where you can appreciate it for what it was.

“But you try to make it in full living color and try to compare it to a Jim Carrey movie, then it’s hard for young people to understand. Because you’re then thinking you’re comparing apples to apples, when you’re not. You’re comparing apples to oranges. I’m saying it’s not fair to the artist.”

WHAT!!!
He testified AGAINST film alterations BEFORE CONGRESS!!!

Alright GL, B&W is what makes Stooges funny, and “cheesy” rubber suits and Han shooting first makes Star Wars great.
As Mark Hamill once said (paraphrasing) “He cannibalized thousands of battleship model kits…it was amazing how Lucas could take glue and popsicle sticks and makes something out of it.”

Plot Point Clarification---Please (re ESB)
Time
If you count books and comics, there is actually quite a bit of time that passes between ANH and ESB.

1. The entire book Splinter of the Mind's Eye is between the movies. It features the "first" Vader/Luke direct confrontation.

2. Luke helps in the evacuation of Yavin 4, slipping in and out past a Vader-commanded blockade.

3. Luke, with information from Imperial Admiral Griff (don't recall if he was being traitorous or trying to trap Luke), attempts to sabotage and destroy the Executor as its being built at the Fondor shipyards, again, under Vader's nose.

During all that time, Vader would have had to learn who this Alliance operative is.

BTW: MagnoliaFan, while its not exactly canon and (now) contradicts EP2, the Emperor was definitely not pleased.
In one of the Zahn books (think its the last one The Last Command, Mara Jade tells Luke (and us) about how displeased the Emperor was. I don't recall the exact line, but she says something to the effect of "Why do you think he had a mechanical left hand?"
Meaning Vader lost it to the Emperor as punishment.

I think I see it.
It looks like a mid-high sneaker.
The angle we see looks like the show, from the bottom, looking up the side.
The opening where your foot would go looks to be about where the line is pointing.

I could be wrong though. When the DVD comes out, though, now that I know what to look for, I could probably get a cleaner look.

Eh? My avatars?

My favorite futurama episode was the Roswell one, I belive it was called "Roswell that ends well". I laughed so hard when Fry got into the cafeteria back in the 1940s and said "I killed my grampa" or something like that.
Professor: "Above all else, it is our secret duty to preserve the past exactly as it was."
Fry: "Well... I killed my grandfather."
Professor: "Whaaaa?"
Leela: "Wait. If you killed your grandfather, why do you still exist?"
Fry: "I don't know. Maybe God loves me?"
Bender: "HAHAHAHAHA!"

I always enjoy the Star Trek episode...

Gas-Mom: "Melllvar! Dinner time!"
Melllvar: "Nar, but mom! I'm playing with my collectables."
Gas-Mom: "Now!"
Melllvar: "Nar"

Fry: "All this time we thought he was a powerful super-being. Yet he was just a child ..."
Gas-Mom: "He is not a child! He is thirty four ..."

Fry: "Melllvar has got a space ship!"
Melllvar: "Yes, in mint condition. And you made me take it out of the package!"

But then, Zap might have the best lines in the entire show:
"If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominos will fall like a house of cards. Check mate."
