Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

Found some Shots of the original one, I thought you wanted to preserve it as much original as possible? :D

I would prefer the yellow ones (^^ have to think of the before yellow and now white stripes on motorways):

Nearly the whole dialog compared with the new German ones are on this site (scroll down):

http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=463266

If I would prefer the old ones with the buggy translation? I don't know. But yellow I would prefer personally.

And 'Hierauf'....hmmmm 'Darauf' is better for sure... it sounds otherwise to overblown....

I hope you agree :).

And before I forget it... PLEASE REMOVE THE NEW GERMAN ORTOGRAPHY!

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)

I just went through this thread (not finished yet - lots of information omg). Foung these precious links posted by Laserschwert earlier:

Laserschwert said:

Here are overviews of the German releases:

SW

TESB

ROTJ

There all differences done by specialized editions are listed precisely (In GERMAN language).

There I found that that the 'missing lines' were never missing in the German version but in the english one and added lateron. I'm talking about ANH just to make this clear, the other parts I did not start yet.

Mavimao said:

What missing lines exactly? Just curious!

Found 4 spots:

- 'Der Fangstrahl ist an sieben Stellen mit dem Hauptreaktor verbunden.
Bei einem Energieverlust an einem der Anschlüsse, könnte das Schiff wieder starten.'
C3PO explaining how to deactivate the tractor beam which was also added in the newer English versions.

- 'Schließt die Panzertüren!'
This was never missing in the German version but in the first English one.

- 'Schön sachte. Ja, runterlassen.'
At lifting R2 into Luke's X-Figthter

- 'Er ist direkt hinter Dir!'
Death Star battle scene.

I have to add. I'm a true Star Wars fan but no 'scientist'. I just write what I found so far but would never pretend everything is 100 % true ^^.

JUST TO KEEP THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE IN FOCUS:

It would be very cool to have both a lossless recording of the 1993 version and the 1982 mix as well. Anybody able to help?

Star Wars sound mixes

Thank you for this thread and thanks to Mavimao who led me here. I do currently literally GERMAN subtitles and wondered because of the missing lines which is now clear.

So I'm not certain which version I was addicted as child but most likely the 85 version taken from television(?).

I'm jealous about you guys who saw it in cinemas 1977 (my year of birth). I watched it months day after day on bad vhs quality BUT:

I love danny_boy's sig: It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

Anyway I look forward to see the German despecialized version - can't wait it.

Thanks again for this informative thread!

I'm currently checking subtitles with Harmy's despecialized edition and it may be related to my habits and thousend times to see it in German...

...but after only watching a few scenes two comments:

3PO German speaker is really the best match ^^. Darth Vader in original English sounds much 'too normal' to me.

Ok, to stay on my issue: 'Schließt die Panzertüren' is missing in the original English version and therefore also in the German subtitles while most of them stick to the German original.

Another proof for me what a great artwork was done for the synchronization as this is a very precious add in my eyes ^^.

Ok may seem odd if there is a subtitle when no voice is heard on the other hand...... as I stated I wouldn't want to miss it.....

Thanks for correcting me ^^

Apropos orthography. Can you maybe provide me the original text of the starting crawl? Maybe for all 3 parts? Would be great!

usually subtitles are shorter than what's said for a good reason

You may be right and I really considered this too but I would miss it and thought about giving people the opportunity to have 1:1 subtitles. The original version sync is a great piece of artwork which should not be mutilated.

In most parts the changes are very small like (original - new):

'Aber sie soll getötet werden!' compared to 'Aber sie werden sie töten!'

A even better example:

'Ich weiß nicht. Ich kann mir ziemlich viel vorstellen.' to
'Na, ich kann mir ne ziemliche Menge vorstellen.'

Other things were even missing without any good reason like: 'Schließt die Panzertüren!' which I find essential for this scene and is really not hard to read...

Or things like 'Kaiser' which is used originally instead of 'Imperator' the same with 'Rasender Falke'.

That is a MUST in my eyes even for the subtitles - don't you agree?

Your idea with 'dubtitles' is great ^^.

[OUT - ruLes] Original Unaltered Trilogy restored using Laserdisc editions - A New Hope (Released)
Time

I have now to get familiar with the subtitle program(s) to set the correct time codes... hope this takes not too long.
I don't know how to get the dvd content into the editor (yes me noob). But I have Harmy's despecialized versions on disc I may use these instead for now.

You may send me already TESB and ROTJ subtitles...

BTW: Thanks to Laserschwert who gave me the hint that I used the wrong word. Not the grammar changed but the orthography.

Hi! I'm doing the German subtitles for Thai Panther's project in the moment (LINK).

I checked the provided subtitles and corrected it to stay word by word at GOUT.

I will even correct the grammar to get rid of 2006 'Rechtschreibreform' (new german grammar)!

If this is of interest for you (I don't know, maybe for hearing impaired people) just tell me.

[OUT - ruLes] Original Unaltered Trilogy restored using Laserdisc editions - A New Hope (Released)
Time

Hi!

I may introduce myself: I'm Martin from Austria. Thai Panther asked me to go through the German subtitles and correct it. I started yesterday evening (A new hope) and...

NEARLY FINISHED!!!!

What a work.... but done!

Status:

- I have 4 entries which are missing completely.

(- There are 2 more new scenes in the 2004 SE I wrote the subtitles for. But only plain text for now. In case someone wants to use it)

- 4 entries may be too long, but don't have to. Need to be checked.

Whats next?

- I will check to get the Subtitle Editor running to check all subtitles so they fit for sure. I need to set the time codes for the missing entries.

Open questions:

- The subtitles are writen in a newer grammar which was not effective 1977. If you do not oppose I would like to keep the original grammar.

- Any other things to do?

In general it was strange how certain things were changed, while other kept the original dialog.
This seems not only because of ease of reading or space management.

Thank you for motivating me to do this. Loved it! Had two times tears in my eyes as I did not see it for quite a long time...

Omg, can't wait it!!!!

Hope I don't spam too much, but I'm really nervous about your work....
Again: Thank you so much for the effort.

I hope I will some day own one copy of that :). I think even if it would cost a few hundred € - if it is that good as it sounds, I would give it to you and whoever is involved.
