The Secret History of Star Wars
Time
I read a large portion of the book and I found it really interesting.

What it really did well was show how inflated Lucas' ego got.

There was a lot of assertions that the Vader = Father and Leia = Sister thing were weak storypoints that Lucas had to do because he wrote himself into a corner. But I've always felt that that is simply a part of art

It is interesting though- a character like GL we can feel very sympathetic for delving into evil.

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?
Time
When I first watched ROTJ I searched my feelings and knew it was true.

I think Leia being his sister did serve a decent plot purpose- it gave Vader in reading Luke's emotions a way to manipulate him into a rage. That has always been a very powerful scene for me, being a protective brother as well.

I think people really don't like it because it makes the nature of their relationship a little incestuous.

I always think of the kisses between them being Marty + Loraine (back to the future) type kisses.

I don't know if there is a name for it, but I think psychologically brothers and sisters can often have something similar to an oedipus or electra complex.

I like ROTJ. I think it works well with ESB. Lawrence Kasdan was still there, Marcia Lucas was still there.

With the Ewoks, I'm not like "oh man, I can't watch this anymore" like I am with Jar-Jar. Over the whole charred corpses of Owen and Beru to Ewoks- there are dramatic ewok death scenes as the tide starts to turn in the battle during one portion. Also you have the darkness of Vader's death and Luke's cremation of him.

And I for one like the Ewok song at the end.

Episode III: A Less Grievous Version (* unfinished project *)
Time
Is there any way you could play up the jealousy of Anakin over Obi Wan about Padme? That was sort of played down and Anakin's more irrational fear of losing her played up.

And also, when the Emperor tells Vader that he killed Padme, I think it would be cooler if he silently stares into the void instead of cheesily yelling "NOOOOO!"

Those 2 things and taking out Padme's death would make the movie much more satifactory.

The legendary "Starkiller Ranch" Thread
Time
I only read the first page of the thread, but I think the ideas posted are pretty blasphemous.

I've come to accept a few things:

1. The prequels are rubbish due to uninvolvement of people who actually challenged Lucas and pushed him to weave the great stories of the first trilogy: Kasdan (ESB and ROTJ), Marcia Lucas (ANH, ESB, ROTJ), Kurtz (ANH, ESB), Kirshner (ESB), and Richard Marquand (ROTJ)- among others like Coppola (whose apparent downfall in filmmaking was related to losing is supporting cast)

2. Knowing that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader when you watch Ep 4 pretty much takes all of the awesomeness out of the original trilogy. Even accepting the original episodes, the best way to watch them is the order they came out in.

3. Nobody is forcing me to accept the special editions, the 2004 editions, or the prequels. I can just live in my own lala land where they don't exist. I can have my own concept of what happens in episodes I, II, and III based off of what I believed they would be like before they even came out.

edit:
Oh, what is this with Star Wars being boring? You've got to have a serious case of ADHD if you think that Star Wars is boring.

***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD
Time
9. When 3PO stands up the Sandcrawler, his eyes blink off for half second. I've fixed that.

I always thought that was intended. It sort of goes along with the whole spacetrash vibe. That is one of my favorite things about the original trilogy- that 3PO and R2 and the Falcon are all old and sort of falling apart.

Also, did you take out the horrid "lock s-foils in attack position" shot? That shot always bugged me. There was this show about the making of Star Wars that I saw and they were all talking about how the audience had to buy the opening shot. And I always bought the models, but not the CGI.
