Can anyone make me a title crawl?
Time
Hi,

I'm working on some prequel edits of my own, starting with Revenge of the Sith. I've tried to make a new title crawl in 3dsMAX myself, but haven't been satisfied with the results. I've seen a lot of the edits here with their great crawls - can someone do the same for me?

Here's the text:

Episode III

REVENGE OF THE SITH

The Clone Wars continue to ravage the Republic, with the Separatist armies now marshalled by a fiendish cyborg General Grievous.

In an unexpected move, a droid fleet has swept into the Republic capital of Coruscant and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate.

As a huge battle ensues in the upper atmosphere, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor....

I've also got a custom starfield background - if anyone can help me with this I'd gladly mail it to them.

Thanks in advance,

The "9000" Saga Edit (outdated thread)
Time
There's no point in it being there at all - especially if you're cutting the Nemodian's lines. Definately works better cut (as I did in my edit).

I too took out the spinning of Anakin's pod. It seems totally ridiculous that before then he'd never even finished a race - now he stalls, spins out of control and loses power to one engine - and still goes on to win! The Jedi are meant to be skilled, but it seems too much of this movie relies on good/bad luck. That's why I cut the entire bongo sequence - you've got these 'invincible' Jedi who have to rely on the bigger fish coming to rescue them (twice)!

Phantom Menace - 21st Edit (Completed)
Time

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading these boards for a month or so now; and finally got motivated to make my own edits of the prequels. I’ve started on TPM, and have a complete edit (minus new crawl) in Premiere. I’ve only done test exports so far rather than the full job; I either need to get a new HDD to export to AVI, or trust Premiere’s MPEG output. Any advice on that would be great actually.

Here’s the details on the edit:

–The Phantom Menace - 21st Edit–
Video: PAL DVD
Audio: 5.1
Inspired by Mag’s BOTF, but without all of the dialogue changes

I know that there are a fair few edits flying around now, but none of them seemed to offer exactly how I would like the prequels to play like; cut out the bad acting and pointless scenes, try and restore some OT style humour to the cuts, all without making wholesale changes (like Mag’s) that make it either incompatible with the other movies, or a different movie altogether.

I’ve made literally hundreds of A/V changes in the process - don’t really fancy listing them all right now. Here’s the basics:

 • cut Jar Jar’s vocal stupidity - I’ve left a few ‘background’ visual gags in.
 • cut most of the bongo sequence, added waterfall instead
 • edited Anakin in a similar style to Mag’s edit
 • totally re-mixed pod cleaning/pre-race/race
 • removed the gap in the Maul/Obi fight where Obi’s seemingly left hanging for minutes. That always seemed totally ridiculous to me - why didn’t Maul finish him off?
 • Midiclorians are gone

If anyone’s interested in taking a look at the edit I’m hoping to get it uploaded at some point (once I’ve got it out of Premiere of course). Also, if anyone could offer a crawl-replacement service that would be great as well - I’ve only got 3DSMAX as my rendering option, and I’m not 100% happy with the results.

editing VOB's?
Time
Womble's MPEG Video Wizard _could_ do most of the things you're talking about there - but it's only really designed for cutting/inserting scenes.

If you do want to go ahead and make image changes, and even make decent audio changes I'd recommend demuxing the VOBS to M2V, and then using DVD2AVI and AVIsynth to edit them in something like Premiere.

I've got a link to a really good step-by-step guide that I'm using to make my prequel edits - but I'm at work at the mo and don't have it here.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
First post - have to hope that Mag hears what I have to say when he's building his new edit!

The first time I watched the movie I was literally making mental notes of scenes that could be cut, bad edits, etc. I think this film is _awful_ in regard to it's editing/pacing - I'm really looking forward to Mag's edit as it should be vastly superior to GL's rushed attempt.

My biggest gripes were GL's insistence on including scenes that have no actual need to be there: and in fact often take away from the OT:

- combing sequence; the acting is so bad here, and there's nothing established that justifies it's inclusion.

- the naming of the kids; serves no purpose other than to show more of Padme's bad makeup and worse acting - and it ruins the whole Leia/Luke unveil later.

- the rest of the birth scene; the acting/droids are so bad, and Obi being there makes his OT character seem even more deceptive.

- most of the scenes on Kashyyk[sic]; again, they form no purpose other than GL wanting Chewie in the story, and him wanting to finally put the planet in. If it had been in more of the story; Endor sort of time, then I'd be happy with it, but as it is it just confuses the story. It would work much better if you got a glimpse of it during the Council holo, and the order 66 scene. There's no need to justify Yoda being there anymore than you justify other Jedi on field duty. And what were they thinking having Yoda jump on Chewie's back!

- Vader; everything post-lava is totally pointless - and I totally agree with Mag's decision to cut it. The OT works so much better you not initially _knowing_ Vader is Anakin. It seems that GL has scripted this movie with Ep3 coming _after_ watching 4-6 - when you put the 6 movies together, all of the big turning points in the OT are no longer a suprise.

I was planning on doing my own edit of this (was searching for the leaked cutting room version) before I found out Mag was already well underway - good job! If you need any assistance in putting this all together I'd be more than happy to offer my time!
