Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Also: the final scene of the movie is very clearly heavily edited. Along with theories that Ben dying was a late editing change (footage of him laying down to die was reversed along with Daisy’s reaction), it’s all just so strange. I hope we get some morsels of deleted footage in the home release aaaa. The final shot of the movie was entirely fabricated, too: http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/JM91CNNU

This movie is a mess!!! Maybe with fan-editing we could even shift it closer to its original state? Which I assume was better?

It is from Paxis!

Here are some things from those leaks that might be interesting to potential editors:

The series of events in the opening was:

-Rey training on Ajan Kloss
-Ren on Mustafar, where he meets ‘the Oracle’ who gives him the wayfinder
-Finn, Poe, and Chewie get the intel from Boolio on the Ice Asteroid
-Ren arrives at Exegol.
-Falcon arrives on Ajan Kloss

Palpatine had an extended reveal scene where he discussed that he survived his fall, isn’t a clone, and that Rey and Kylo are part of a ‘force dyad.’

Chewie being alive wasn’t revealed until the main characters find out.

The Rise Of Skywalker — Official Review and Opinions Thread
Time

Ok, so my thoughts on this film are complicated.

I knew what was going to happen in the movie, I had read the leaks. I saw how horribly it was being reviewed and I started to feel very worried.

I saw it opening night with my family, with whom I have watched every Star Wars opening night with since Force Awakens. We had a very positive experience. I knew that I loved it but I couldn’t rank it just yet. My favorite moment in the movie was when Rey and Poe yelled at each other for about a minute straight, followed by Ben’s shrug at the Knights of Ren.

Days went by and I slowly realized something. The only real reason why I resonated with this movie is because it had the characters from the previous movies in it. Because of Force Awakens and especially Last Jedi, I had grown to love these characters, especially Rey. This movie, in my opinion, completely ran backwards from the wonderful step forward that The Last Jedi had made in the franchise. That movie ended with a quiet, personal battle between a broken man and his master who failed him. This movie ends with a billion ships attacking a thousand Star Destroyers. I mean, Last Jedi spoiled me.

This is the first sequel movie where I know that I will only ever watch fan-edits of it as soon as they become available. I’m sure that someone will be able to fix a majority of my perceived issues with the movie and make it a worthy trilogy-closer. I can only hope that Disney decides to be generous and provide some good deleted scenes.

I’m so disappointed.

If Finn and Poe had had a romantic subplot I would have been slightly less disappointed.

What Rose scene was deleted snooker?

aaaaaaa

Kelly talked about filming scenes with Daisy and how it was nice their energy was. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/12/kelly-marie-tran-rose-rey-star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-1202199220/

Also, any speculation on what was changed in the reshoots with Luke?

According to the leaks of the film from months ago:

Luke’s conversation with Rey is said to be encouraging yet realistically grim in tone. Luke knows first hand what it’s like to face Palpatine and that it’s not an easy task. Rey must confront Palpatine in the same way that Luke once had to confront Vader. Luke encourages Rey by telling her of the faith Leia had in her. She saw the potential within her and hoped that Rey would be able to restore balance to the Force once more just as Anakin once did. Rey supposedly asks to speak to Leia at one point, but Luke responds by telling her that Leia has not yet completed her training and he can not yet feel her distinctive consciousness within the Force. By the end of their conversation, Rey is reenergized for the seemingly insurmountable task that lies ahead of her and agrees to leave the island.

Also: I really hope there’s a version of the ending with Finn and Poe and everyone. Gosh that sounds so nice !!!

I dont remember the ending celebration scene but is it in any way possible to remove the homestead scene at the end? Not because I hate nostalgia or whatever, it’s just that WHY DOES REY END THE MOVIE BEING ALONE ??? HER WHOLE CHARACTER IS ABOUT FINDING A FAMILY FOR YOURSELF !!! AND SHE ENDS UP ALONE !!!

im starting to hate this movie !!! theres so much i like but damn !!! i hate so much of it too!!!

god i hope that deleted Rose scene is included in the extras. DAMN i hope there are lots of deleted scenes. I’d even love to see alternate scenes !!!

Also, would cutting Ben’s on screen death work ? Like, they’re there in each other’s arms and then its like, the next scene? And then its the resistance celebration and then there’s like, a shot of Ben leaving? and Luke and Leia’s ghosts are there?

Also I really hate Mark’s performance in this movie ! After Carrie died I feel like he gave up (Also most of his scenes were done in reshoots and he’s got this gross gross wig !) AAAAA!!!

I just don’t know how possible it is to remove Rey’s parents from the movie? If its possible i would do it, but Ochi’s ship design is very explicitly from Force Awakens so it might be odd to have the same ship without the backstory?

The first Rey and Palpatine scene will already be a nightmare ‘My granddaughter…’ ‘Empress Palpatine’ etc.

I think that for my eventual personal edit I’ll:

-Remove any implications of any romantic feelings between Poe and Zorri/Finn and Jannah (aaagh Disney are cowards!!)
-Slow down the pacing using subtle digital slow motion (to hold on shots for longer) and deleted scenes.
-Remove Rey being a Palpatine but keep her parents being killed by Ochi.
-Remove the kind of disgusting line ‘they sold you to protect you.’
-Add shot of Leia holding Han’s medal to right before her death scene (you can notice that she’s holding it when she lays down but no attention is brought to it)
-Rey doesn’t bring BB-8 to Tatooine?
-There is a lot of voice over in this movie (Palpatine VO over ships at the beginning, him taunting Rey at the end, the whole Resistance taking off sequence) that feels a little un-Star Wars-y, so reducing it would be fine.
-Remove Lando’s conversation with Jannah/reduce the ‘old smoothie’ attitude he seemingly has?
-Have Finn and Poe receiving info from Boolio as the first scene? THEN we cut to Mustafar afterwards, where maybe we hear Palpatine’s broadcast from Fortnite?
-Rewrite crawl to be less “accept all of this new information as quickly as possible”
-Reduce back-peddling of decisions made in The Last Jedi.
-Remove ‘Holdo Maneuver’ line
-On my second watch, I thought to myself that a lot of scenes might have more weight/feel more dramatic if the music was removed. Can’t think of many specific examples except for the second scene in Babu Frik’s workshop.
-Remove/push back scene of Chewie being revealed to be not dead. Either don’t show him until after everyone mourns his loss, or cut the scene and have his being alive revealed when Rey senses him on Kijimi.

This movie is very strange to me because there is a lot that I love but there’s so much that I really dislike. BUT the things that I dislike I know can be removed through editing, so we’ll see.

Here’s an attempt to make Dooku’s character a little spookier? and more Count Dracula-like by using John Williams’s Dracula score.

I’ve also made a new establishing shot for Dooku’s tower thing.

I cut a lot of redundant and silly lines and tightened up the editing a lot.

JEDIT: it should also be noted that in my edit Dooku is telling the truth and isn’t working for Sidious.

I’m so glad they made the ST. When I recently re-watched the OT I could not help but think “This doesn’t make any sense! Men can’t solve anything! Palpatine would never be defeated by a couple of stupid men. Only a SIW could possible defeat him!”

The circle is complete.

haha. i’m dying. this is incredible comedy. haha
