Hal, are you using the V4 edit? V4 (I think) removes the color banding, as well as adds film grain, and probably is the closest match in terms of color and brightness to the rest of the scene.

Also, maybe I’m going slightly crazy from having obsessed over the coloring of that scene, but it looks like your test clip there doesn’t include the color re-grade present in Ascendant V1? My V4 edit was designed to match the Ascendant tone. Does that have to be changed?

That said, I think the flow works very well!

And some screenshots for comparison.

It’s subtle, but you can tell the light is fake, you should blur it or use a different shape to make the falloff softer.

I tried to make Exegol orange before, but the colors didn’t look right, so I made another attempt closer to sepia: https://vimeo.com/511680223

Could somebody help me answer this ?

Actually my question was also how to know if we have the latest versions. How could I compare the versions on my hard drive to the versions on your Drive ?

There should be a way to differentiate versions.
At the very least, we could differentiate them by exact size.

You can check the last modification date on Google Drive by selecting the list view.

I don’t think I’ve updated the Pasaana and Gray Exegol LUTs, but just in case:

For the de-blue’d Luke, I’m a bit worried that when a final grade is applied Luke will look too washed out. Maybe it would be worthwhile to do the blue reduction on top of whatever final grade you settle on so that the look can be precisely adjusted.

The amount of blue can easily be tweaked by increasing or decreasing the opacity of the de-blued clips before applying the LUT.

Hal, faces sometimes look sunburned with the Pasaana LUT, so it’s probably easier to just use the “reduce_green_tint_v3.7” LUT.

Axios, I didn’t mention it, but you can preview the LUT on Windows only.

Extract “reduce_green_tint_v3.7.7z” with WinRAR or 7-Zip, you’ll get these files:

  • ffplay.exe - A basic video player that can apply a LUT in real time
  • preview_LUT.bat - A batch file that contains the command to play a video with a LUT
  • reduce_green_tint_v3.7.cube - The LUT itself

Right-click on “preview_LUT.bat” then click on Edit.
Replace “C:\TROS.mkv” with the path to the video file.
If you don’t know it, go to the location of the video file, hold down the Shift key and right-click the file, then click Copy as Path. You can now paste it into “preview_LUT.bat”.
Save the changes and close the window.
Double-click on “preview_LUT.bat”, a window should appear with the movie and the colors should be a little bit different.
There is no interface but it’s easy to use : https://ffmpeg.org/ffplay.html#While-playing

Only if there’s a LUT for it, but it may introduce unintended effects to shift so radically.

I also intend to apply the main LUT at something like 66% in order to benefit from it overall and hopefully avoid some of its more extreme effects.

Just in case you missed it:

Now that I look at it, the LUT is indeed too red, so I’ve made another one, it should be more balanced: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rOLnh768sRVLtMfikZtEzVsHMG2IIFzO/view?usp=sharing
Comparison

In the download link, I’ve included ffplay and a batch file to preview the LUT if someone want to check how it looks, so I can tweak it if necessary (the location of the movie file has to be set in preview_LUT.bat).

What resolution do you need?

I think I could only find a 72dpi source image so I’m not sure if it’ll scale up to 300dpi for DVD cover.

I can’t find that star wars logo anywhere. Does anyone have it so I can finish this?

I’ve upscaled the source image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uRIjDiHL-lYgbFtDnVy3K6xd8fGSgjac/view?usp=sharing

I’m only on my phone right now. How’d you do that and what’s the resolution now?

I used Topaz Gigapixel AI, the resolution is 5400 x 8000 px.

Has anyone considered making a version of Rise of Skywalker without the teal filtering (or is there one available)? I did some images to show how gorgeous this movie really can be without that hideous teal: https://imgur.com/a/OWJwSpG

But unfortunately, I don’t have a computer that’s good enough to do this in a video editor.

I’ve attempted to reduce the green tint with this LUT, and this one makes Exegol less blue.

I would gladly learn VFX stuff and modify the lip-syncing of the characters to redub the planet’s name as Korriban. The shot of the Sith statues with the orange ambience just speaks KOTOR.

Korriban is widely known to those it concerns, though, so it wouldn’t function as a secret base. All the more reason to stay close to the official blue grade to differentiate it from Korriban. It also really suits Palpatine. I do like the “grey” recolor though. Something along those lines might be good.

I’ve only seen the orange recolor, has gray been done yet? I can see grey mixed with green from the machine like someone else suggested to imply the Nightsister magic

I’ve redone the gray LUT (it’s a bit less red), here is how it looks on Exegol: https://vimeo.com/435562056
password: fanedit

edit: slightly less gray but also less red LUT

Here is a low quality preview of what making Exegol orange can look like: https://vimeo.com/433016595

I’ve sometimes used the gray LUT, but everything is much warmer, maybe too much. Now that I think about it, it looks like a sepia filter. I haven’t masked the lightsabers nor Force lightning.

Interesting… I’ll have to play with those. Maybe the gray one could work. Is it intended for pretty much everything on the planet: overworld, underworld, etc.?

Some shots become desaturated or too warm.

The orange looks really nice. Can you apply that to a few scenes with the Emperor?

Unfortunately, blue lightsabers and blue lightning become white.
