which should've came first? PT or OT?
Time

Hmmm I'm trying to figure out ways to write this but my brain is failing me at the moment.

The prequel trilogy is the back story so it doesn't really exist with out the main story that is the OT.

When Lucas wrote the story for his science fiction fantasy movie The Star Wars he came up with an outline for the universe of sorts. A back story for General Kenobi and Luke's Father and the grand republic before the tyrannical Empire.

It was used to help flesh out the characters and universe a little bit. That's it.

When that one movie became successful he used what little story he hadn't used and made two sequels. Creating an empire himself he thought he could do one or two sequel trilogies and using his outline a trilogy set before SW based on the adventures of young Ben Kenobi.

That outline became pretty useless after SW '77 anyway. Before that Vader and Luke's Father were two different people and the Empire was corrupt bureaucracy not a successful Sith plot to take over the universe.

So based on all this I don't think your hypothetical can be answered.

edit: when I was talking about my brain failing me I was trying to think of a literary or even a film comparison.

So far I can't think of anything maybe some one can help me out.

Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*

...It also sets a precedent to have both versions (in some form) in any future release. I think some people at Fox or LFL definitely want the originals restored. So they've gradually creaked the door open slightly more and more as much as Lucas will let them......

I totally agree with you and think this is the only good thing to come out of this release.

Though the realist in me knows that in the end Lucas will do and release what ever pleases him precedents and minions be damned.

Yeah, I am curious about a number of things.

First off, whether or not the covers are the same as the original PT releases and the 06 release.

Second, if the Lego Star Wars demo is still there, or if they at least bothered to make them more current.

And finally, if the disc art/labels are still the same (for example, the OT release was done kind of oddly, with a "Disc One" followed by a "Bonus Disc". Seems like you'd either do it, "Disc One" and "Disc Two" or something like "Feature" or no extra label at all and a "Bonus Disc". Seemed odd to have a "Disc One" without a "Disc Two"). Wonder if they changed it or not.

Surprised to hear these are slimline, that is pretty lame, feels like a "budget" sort of thing to do, and these things certianly are not being sold at a budget price.

+ 1

Although I don't expect anyone of these boards to have bought these.

I've had a look around at dvdtalk.com forums with no success. But then again they hate double dipping as much as you'd expect. Maybe the official site might be the way to go but, you know... I'd rather set myself on fire than search there ;)

I'd expect same bonus disc labelling and content with the covers of the '06 release with slight alterations to fit the slim cases.

Haha.

This movie should about a bunch of friends one with cancer who expresses his immense desire to see the new Star Wars installment before he dies. Being the great friends they are they suffocate him with a pillow in the third scene.

Hey at least he won't live to see 2004 and it's infamous dvd release.

Joking of course.

I'd pay to see this movie, it looks good not great.

Let's Talk Indy For A Sec

^^^

Dude that's awesome thanks for sharing.

I refuse to watch the Crystal Skull dvd once was enough thanks (besides the movie doesn't exist in my mind) but now I'm interested in the dvd features. Specifically what is said above and the rest of the movies long development.

That, what I guess is a screen cap, is awesome. I can forsee that being photoshoped numerous times with a multitide of phrases added like "Lucas = Fail"

I'm over criticising Indy 4, I saw it, didn't like it, said what I had to say and moved on. But this sheds new light on things.

My hope on Indy 4 was that Steven would keep Lucas in check. When the movie turned out the way it did I laid blame on Spielberg because the movie seemed to me as lazy if not more as The Lost World and because I couldn't expect anything less from Lucas.

This is just further proof to me that Spielberg wasn't all that interested in making another Indy film and was simply trying to appease Lucas and possibly Harrison. And that's unforgivable, if his heart wasn't in it it shouldn't have been. To suggest the possibility of another director doing it is just as horrible.

I don't know maybe I'm wrong and it's just me, I do after all love Temple of Doom.

Lucas' Red Tails
Time

I thought I'd start a topic on this as finally there is a confirmed script and director. Slash film reports:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/10/01/anthony-hemingway-to-direct-george-lucas-red-tails/

Red Tails is one of those projects that I’ve never been interested in. George Lucas has been developing the film since 1989, and was originally going to direct the movie himself. He infamously put the project aside to helm the Star Wars prequels. It has now been officially announced that Anthony Hemingway (The Wire, CSI: NY, ER) has signed on to helm the project.

Scripted by John Ridley, the story follows the true events surrounding the first African Americans to become US military pilots in WWII. At first harassed on Racial grounds, the Tuskegee Airmen went on to become heavily in-demand, and were collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. LucasFilm is financing the project for a reported $30-$35 million. Production will begin early next year in Prague, Italy, Croatia and England.

Okay, to recap: We have a film developed by George Lucas for the last 20 years, written by the guy who created Undercover Brother and directed by a television director? I’ll pass.

Oh and I'll add Variety's article because they mention McCallum as producing and a start date of March '09.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993137.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Lucasfilm has tapped Anthony Hemingway to direct "Red Tails," the WWII action adventure about the Tuskegee Airmen based on a story by George Lucas.

Lucas will exec produce and finance the pic through his Lucasfilm production company. Lucas tapped scribe John Ridley to pen the script last year.

Rick McCallum and Charles Floyd Johnson are producing. Production starts in March in Italy, Prague and Croatia.

"Red Tails" revolves around the young pilots who overcame institutional racism in the military to form the Tuskegee Airmen, the fliers who become the first African-American fighter pilots in U.S. military history. Their planes featured the red-painted tails that give the film its title.

Hemingway's helming credits include episodes of "CSI: NY," "Heroes" and "The Wire."

Better than the rumour a few months back that Lucas offered the directors seat to Samuel L Jackson.

I'm not too interested in this, but I thought some people might be since it's been a long time coming.

Ah that's the Australian Ofiice of Film and Literature Classification for you.

Those huge colour coded ratings things were only implemented in around 2005. Pretty much around the time I stopped buying R4 dvds and only buy R1 or R2 dvds online.

Many collectors were not pleased with it as you have noticed it screws with the aesthetic of the cover art. Nor does it match the rest of ones collection. But what can you do it's the governemnt. They refuse to implement an 18+ video game rating, they're not going to worry about making dvds ugly.

Star Wars on Blu-ray?

Um the Godfather set just came out and I know I personally haven't had a chance to purchase it.

Besides there is thread on that in the off topic section. The Godfather review at dvdtalk.com is very good. I'd suggest you read that if you already haven't.

Oh and by the way I'm going to hold off my purchase of the R1 Godfather dvd set, as the bonus discs are apparently messed up. Disc 5 is labeled disc 4 and vice versa. I'm going to wait and see how this is handled as I want a correct set.
