GOOD NEWS!!!!

TESB DTS ISO's are now uploaded.  They'll be making their way to the newsgroups soon.  I've sent out links to some of you who I know have been waiting for them....check your pm box.

:)

Thanks for the patience.

there's one showing up on usenet that says "movie-only". is this not the ISO like SW?

btw, extraction with winamp 2.92 under wine in Snow Leopard is working

That may be msycamore's reference video you're seeing...anything audio only should say just that....

I think that it is the DTS CD-ROMs (its only 800ish MB). I downloaded the disc images this morning (400MB each) from a link Jetrell Fo sent me, I think the discs may have been re-authored for size as they are missing the audio for the pre-movie trailers which are on the other discs for the other films. I think thats what it means by 'movie-only'.

i just finished downloading them. yes, that's what they are. the NFO file hadn't shown up when i first saw the posting. it states that it's just the movie audio files. thanks to everyone involved in getting these out there.

For whatever it's worth, I used Linux + Wine + Winamp-2.92 (from Afterdawn)
Wine runs on OSX or so they say...

that's hopeful news. i'll try that next. thanks.

strangely i was able to import the files into Audacity and while what i got was an insane amount of distortion, i could hear the SW soundtrack faintly underneath. i tried numerous settings combos for the import, but none gave a proper decode.

does anyone know of a way to decode the raw files on Mac?

second question, is there not an LFE in the DTS mix?

I would suggest virtualization, except I'm not convinced the plugin works within a virtual machine. I tried Winamp 2.91 in Windows XP mode within Windows Virtual PC and it worked, but the plugin wouldn't and spat out an error. A quick online search of the error message showed some software won't work with Virtual Machines, something to do with certain processer features not being available or something (I forget exactly, as I just went and used a different computer).

Perhaps someone you know who has a Windows machine? The process of decoding them is actually very quick, takes a few seconds per channel of sound from each reel. I'd make a torrent of the decoded tracks in RAW PCM or WAV so those who don't have Windows can have a play with these files, but with my upload speed it would take a very long time to seed it.

thanks for the info. at the moment i only have wine installed on my Mac, so i'll start with that.

actually i do have a 5 year old Dell laptop in my closet. it no longer connects to the internet, so hasn't had updates in a few years. but i'll download the software to my Mac and take it over on a thumb drive and see how that works.

To answer your first question....Switch.

To answer your second question please read this.....

And this.......

http://www.film-tech.com/warehouse/manuals/DTSSTUDIOMIX.pdf

I hope it helps some.  Google can be such a pain in the arse at times.....  :)

at first i thought you were telling me to switch to PC :) Assuming you weren't, i tried Switch but am not having any luck. it tells me there was no audio detected in the file.

ah, that makes sense. i had read the post with instructions, but i knew i was misunderstanding something. it sounded to me like an LFE had to be faked by using the low frequencies from the other channels. that 2nd link clears it up, thanks!

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Harmy, these comparisons are awesome!  Not sure if this has been pointed out yet, but I'm wondering if you accidentally swapped v1.0 and v2.1 images in one of the snapshots.

In 13.25.36, I'm able to read "YAVIN" much more clearly in the v1.0 shot than in the v2.1 shot.  I'm assuming this should be the other way around?

(What's really cool about this is that I never even knew it said "YAVIN" in the first place!)

Thanks for all you do, Harmy.

i believe it's labeled correctly. the 2.1 shot matches the scene in the 2.0 mkv. if i were to make a guess, i'd say harmy created the YAVIN sign for 1.0 and has now used the film still for authenticity.

Thanks.  If I understand correctly:

- the 70mm FLAC encoding is ok (no encoding issues, not included in despecialized)

- this is a re-encode of the 35mm stereo and mono mixes (from Belbucus, just in case there was an issue with the version inside despecialized)

i didn't know there was a flac of the 70mm. is it still available somewhere?

Flac stereo http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-1977-70mm-sound-mix-recreation-stereo-and-51-versions-now-available/post/587196/#TopicPost587196

Star Wars Laser Disc Audio Archive (Released)
Time

gotcha. were the phase inversions on sides 1 & 2 to the whole sides or certain sections?

i was just checking the GOUT soundtrack against harmy 2.0 to see how much correction is needed to switch GOUT tracks to harmy 2.0 syncs. it was in sync up to the point where the falcon comes out of hyperspace, at which point GOUT is a frame ahead for the remainder of the film. I added in 40ms to GOUT at that point and it then synced with harmy 2.0 all the way.

thanks again, looking forward to LD archive 2.0 and any syncs.

thanks for posting this collection. i grabbed a few for my archives. when i pulled some of the 1977 stereo theatricals into a wav editor, i noticed they had markers with notes like "needs inverting". what do these indicate?

44/16 stereo theatrical and '93 mix sync'd to harmy would be really great. after watching harmy's 2.0, i've lost interest in GOUT.

Yes, it's for real. I sent the fixed 448 kbps track to Chewie and Harmy first, so they could integrate it into the DE and get it out there as soon as possible.  I'm going to post the links here once I'm done uploading a new 640 kbps version also.

The other had a lot of distortion on the high frequencies, and sounded like a bad mp3 in those parts.

@ Moth3r: I use a GUI for the Aften encoder since I can't afford one of the professional ones.  It has a lot of user-adjustable settings for things that should perhaps not be open to manipulation, and I seem to have inadvertently picked the wrong one for high frequency cutoff, so it came out screwed up even despite using the low pass filter.  This time I forced it to accept full bandwidth, with only the filter providing any cutoff, and it's much better than before.

When listening on hifi, the quality reduction at 448 kbps is somewhat noticeable, although it still sounds quite good.  640 is difficult to distinguish from the lossless source, and would be my recommendation for watching on a format that isn't restricted by DVD's 448 limitation.

harmy mentioned that you provided him with some of the other soundtracks, were any others affected?

Info: cynical Lucasfilm at it again (a re-release of the 2004 OT SE DVD set)
Time
The cover art is much better, wish they'd used those the 1st time around. I'm sure this lower-priced "limited edition" 3 disc set will sell like hotcakes for Christmas, but I wonder if this will also be a way of sneaking in a corrected ANH w/o having to admit it wasn't a creative decision to reverse the rear channel music? Now they can just say it was a creative decision to make some changes to this new set. Yeah, sounds stupid, but no more than the first "creative decision" answer.

I didn't realize that, for some reason I was thinking the faces set was being used. Hope you can get the faces set, would be good to finally see a comparison on the ultimate player. This should be able to put to rest the CLV vs CAV and DC vs faces issues.

I might also point out that the Def. Col. has a long list of several documented problems in every print and reprint, whereas the Faces set has very few (that I'm aware of.)

Here's the lastest updated list of the flaws I could find. It still lists Luke's saber as not having been fixed, so this list is even older than my pressing. Even more of these "flaws" may have been fixed, but I haven't checked my set as none of the ones left would even bother me. Though I could check if anyone would like me to.

Nor do I from my 704. Then again, it's been a looooooooong time since I've watched either at full speed. [Firefly] "Does that seem right to you?" [/Firefly]

I've read a few places that the 704 is a notorious smearer. See page 24 of Zion's project thread. There are smearing caps of the faces set from his 704. Also in that thread (page 21) are smearing caps from Karyudo. It's just listed as "US" so I'm not sure which set that comes from or what player. His Japanese caps look much better. Aside from the better black level (which is because of Japan's 0 IRE standard), there is no smearing. Are these CAV discs?

"This is on my player, though, Which smears pretty noticably with CLV discs and not at all with CAV discs."

Again showing it's more of a player problem than a transfer problem.

I don't disagree, my opinion is also that the smear comes from the way a player handles the CLV format. But the reason really means nothing to me, in the end it's which one looks best to me on my setup. But since this is the X0 thread and it doesn't seem to smear, it's a non-issue for this set. Though, I have never seen a CAV vs CLV comparison, so it's still possible that while the X0 handles CLV much better than your usual player, it may also handle CAV even better.

[EDIT]

I might also point out that the Def. Col. has a long list of several documented problems in every print and reprint, whereas the Faces set has very few (that I'm aware of.)

I've read over that list and the only few flaws not fixed in the very latest pressing are very minor to me and usually I couldn't even find them. I don't think it can be said that one set is w/o question better than the other. Everyone has their preference and mine is the DC set. If I had a X0, I may like the faces set better.
