Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Looking for other things as well. Also “kick Ass” has MKV, looking for AVCHD.

I don’t want to be a jerk but clearly you haven’t looked very hard for it. I was on a certain public torrent site that “kicks ass” yesterday, searched “harmy” and it was the third one from the top. I understand Myspleen is convenient for those of us who are getting just about every project that comes out of the woodwork here, but if all you want is get despecialized and run, there are plenty of other ways to get it. uloz, tehparadox, public torrents.

You'll have to explain a bit more about your procedures.  The PARs should work on all the files, not sure what you mean by "RAR 9 incomplete, there is no PAR for that one."  If your news provider doesn't have great retention, then maybe the downloaded RARs/PARs are not complete enough to regenerate the files.  If this is the case, the PAR program will tell you how many blocks you are missing.  What PAR program are you using?  Also have you tried redownloading the segments (9) which are very incomplete?  Also check tehparadox version, should be the same RARs.

I use binreader for mac.  It downloads, opens rars, and fixes with pars automatically.  The tehparadox is linked to the same place I got it from  Part 09.rar is incomplete it said on download.

220 days ago on a.b.sw.  Which should be the same as tehparadox version, AvP mentioned a few posts ago.  So since there are a set of PARs there, if you start downloading them, if might fix the incomplete RARs you've already downloaded.

Yes, the flesh tones are too red. This is always the problem with a general adjustment of colors to bring the overall levels back up where they should be, the flesh tones turn out either too red, or too dark, not natural looking.

I am just not seeing the red in the skin tones.  I am using a a proper setup broadcast monitor to view this on as well.  All the skin tones on my end are look like a natural tan/skin tone.   Can you give me an example of a shot that is looking red on your end, or are all of them looking red?

A general color correction was not applied.  I tweaked the setting scene by scene in FCP.

When I was a kid I had a vhs bootleg copy of Return of the Jedi.  I was the coolest kid on my block for about a week after I got it.

I can tell you that it was not the full screen version mentioned earlier in this thread.  My copy was of very low quality, due to the fact that it was many generations down from the original.  It was also presented in letterbox mode.  The strange thing is it was more 1:85:1 letterbox than 2:35:1 mode.  I am not 100% sure if it was a camcorder copy or telecine copy due to the low quality.  It did have direct audio though.  I am leaning more towards a camcorder copy. The part when the large Imperial cruiser falls from space and crashes, the film actually froze and broke.  There was then a harsh edit point.

I grew up in the Detroit area and first learned of the is bootleg while at the barber shop with my Grandfather.  They guy who owned the shop told me he just watched the new Star Wars movie at home.  Surely I thought he was confused and had just watched Star Wars on HBO.  He said come back the next day and he would have a copy for me.  This was summer of 83.  Needles to say I never made it back the next day.

A few days later the local news ran a piece on Return of the Jedi bootlegs hurting profits at local theaters.

I received my copy from a friend of my parents a couple of months later.  Like I said though, by the time I got it many generations in quality had passed.

Okay, so here is another link to pass two of color correction.  Less yellow than the last time.  I also removed the sharpen filter as it was harsh, and even when I lowered the settings it had very little impact over using no sharpen at all on my theater system.  The upconvert from my blu ray player had it looking very nice.

Synced with mono mix

comments are always welcome.

Anyone??

RU.08, I was graduating high school in 93 so I am not 100% sure what the process or the cost was like then.

Getting back to my project, I posted some still above of some early color test that I would really like some more feedback on.  I am really torn on the sunset scene as to how to go.  I like it more on the warm side, but it seams a little red?  Having a tough time balancing the color of the sky and not turning Lukes clothes yellow.  I know I also want to take some of the yellow out on the end medal award scene.

I am rendering out as we speak a cut with some detail filtering added.  The early test looked really good.  I will be posting a video later this evening.

Can you give an example of the IVTC errors you are seeing on the GOUT disc? I noticed some flickering on R2D2 in a couple of places, which I think is an IVTC problem, but I've never seen any combing artefacts.

141781 thru 141784 are combed in the NTSC ROTJ (also happens to be the beginning of a reel)

These are perfect examples.  It also makes sense that the pal is not showing these as it has less information to add from a 23.98 source, and less to remove from a 29.97 when going back to 23.98.

Now a days when we use a machine called an Alchemist to do our 23.98 to 29.97 conversions there are several options on how to handle the fields.  One of which is blurring.  Some clients would rather have this than the jagged lines that tend to appear on scenes with very fast motion.  I notice it most in peoples hands as the move them around.  You will get almost a doubled blurred effect.  Its not as harsh as the jagged lines, but not any better.

This can be seen a lot throughout the gout version.  I will try and post some pics of it later.  Seeing as how this has gone through two conversions (one up to 29.97 to make the D1, and then back down to 23.98 for the DVD) its no wonder its there.

I actually do work in the field of post production and I handle and deal with downconversions, upconversions, pulldown/frame rate conversions all day long.  Most of what I master is for Broadcast, Blu Ray, and digital prints.  If workflow in the 90s is what it is today, then the film would be first converted to a digital tape format before laserdisc mastering would happen.  At the time I am guessing it would have been a D1, or a D2.  Seeing as how those are SD only formats I am almost positive that those tape did not support a 23.98 frame rate in 1993.  I would almost bet everything I had that it went to a digital tape at 29.97.   At some point this was converted back to 23.98, which is something that you never want to do.

At any rate we all agree the gout looks like crap.

Any feedback on my pics above on the color would be appreciated.

rmclain, the framerate on the dvd's is 29.97. Somewhere during the rip process you have applied an inverse telecine, reducing the framerate to 23.976.  The gout dvd's were created from the same 35mm film print which was used for the definitive collection laserdiscs (as far as i know).

Strange, here is the stream info that is being read off on my 2008 DVD.  Mind you this is reading the DVD info only, no processing has yet to be applied.  You can apply any type of telecine inverse at this point in the program.

Here is another shot of a DVD I created for a client that I know is 29.97.  Again this is just the raw steam info opened in streamclip the exact same way.

Now I am not saying that what you are saying to be untrue, but strange that streamclip reads the raw stream as 23.98.

Here are my first color shots.  I am still going back and forth on the sunset scene.  I am under the impression that I would like to leave it more on the warmer red/orange/pink side.  Looking at all the different pics online it seems that may be the way it was in 77.
