4K is on the way, IMAX theaters are supposed to convert this year
Oh, PLEASE tell me that's not true! IMAX footage that's edited digitally needs to be scanned in at 8k to preserve all the detail (IMAX scenes for "The Dark Knight" were scanned in at 8k, while all 35mm scenes were done in 4k) - if IMAX, a format that touts itself as being the highest resolution currently possible, trumping even all them newfangled "digital formats" (which it is and does) converts to *4k* digital projection, it'll be completely pointless beyond being something projected on a giant screen, which you can get anyway if you go to a movie theater and sit in the 4th or 5th row (I saw WALL-E that way and I didn't have to strain my neck, but still could see nothing but movie :-D).
Search it there is alot of articles some with good details some not so good, scanning back over a couple of them looks like it will be a Sony 4k projectors. The reoson seems to be the cost of shooting full lenth movies with IMAX cameras so now more movies can be in IMAX format. Back to ESB talk its hard not to get off subject since most of use are all of us have the same interest movies, cinema etc...
