I watched this edit yesterday, and I found it fantastic. The duration is perfect, less Jar Jar and less Gungan. I really liked that you cut a lot of stupid childish gag and podracers scene is more interesting and not bored. The original scene was too long. I’m working on the Italian audio track (I’m Italian), because this is how Episode 1 should be. And I think I will watch also episode 2 and 3. I have also worked on episode IX Italian track.

In TROS they each redouble their outer shells to protect their vulnerability and feelings for the other, fighting and fighting until they eventually give in.

Meanwhile Finn keeps hitting his head against a brick wall with Rey, pushing Rose away in the process. Rose decides to barely exist after this, and another random girl gets Finn on the rebound.

From this point of view it all makes sense. And I realized that I didn’t understand anything about the sequel trilogy.

IMHO, I think all three ST films have pretty clear romantic (and marriage specifically) imagery and elements. It’s not sarcasm. In the surrealist cinematic world of the main Star Wars saga, those present clearly to me. I’m not overly acquainted with esoteric Reylo internet stuff, it’s just my read of the movies.

Kylo carrying Rey across the threshold, taking of hands (rejecting Finn’s hand in favor of taking Kylo/Ben’s even), and lines like, “I do.”

It doesn’t have to make sense. This is a weird movie universe where archetypes play themselves out melodramatically. Rey is the light (and female) and Kylo is the dark (and male). Of course there’s going to be romantic and sexual archetypes invoked.

Yes, Star Wars always had these romantic and sexual archetypes, but in the previous trilogies were more explicit. I think in sequel trilogy they could have be more explicit, only signs aren’t enough in my opinion.

it’s the same thing for me. I always thinked that the reason why they look for each other, is the special connection to the force, the dyad. they don’t know what is it and why they feel each other connected. Kylo don’t know if is good or evil, if he had to stay with the dark side or the light side, and then thanks to Rey he come back to the light side. No love, no marriage. this is my opinion.

I think that Star Wars should be made with the common audience in mind. So, yes, it may have been better if they realized that these romantic signs should be more explicit for the audience. Then again, there is plenty in the sequel trilogy that would have been better had more thought been put into it. I am agree with you. Maybe i am the only one who didn’t catch this signs and this love connection between kylo and Rey. So this is the reason because i didn’t understand the kiss. If for most people the love connection is so clear, then the kiss have to stay in the movie and in Hal’s edit. I will watch the sequel trilogy trying to pay attention to these signs.

Have you never been on Twitter? People have been stanning Reylo since 2015 and TLJ really brought it to the forefront in the movies.

Ben having zero lines after his change of heart does make it feel kind of odd in TROS though, considering how much of their interaction in TLJ consisted of talking, but the kiss is supposed to be an emotionally triumphant moment.

I don’t have Twitter, but i know that people talked about Reylo. Anyway if people talk about romance between two characters, doesn’t mean that it have to be then in the movie.

As for the Reylo kiss, it makes things come full circle in the saga. Ben really did complete what his grandfather started: saving the one he loved from death. The kiss helps sell the idea that their relationship can be compared to Anakin and Padme’s.

ok, in this way the kiss has sense. The problem is that nobody think that Rey and Kylo were in love. They are connect, but there’s no signs that he loves her and she loves him.

That being said, I’ve always found that Chewie getting the medal in the ending takes me right out of the movie. They definitely put that in because of the meme, not because it was beneficial to the story or character. Thoughts on that?

And Billy Dee’s interaction with Jannah also feels really creepy to me. But maybe I just find the whole ending really cringey.

Regarding Chewie, i think the scene is fine, not for the meme that isn’t so popular, but for what represent for Chewie, Han and Leia.
And Lando’s interaction with Jannah, i think is unusefull, but not so creepy. If could be cut, i think could be better but it can stay with no problem.

Regarding Kylo and Rey kiss, someone find this a little bit cringe? Is there a way to fix it or cut it, in your opinion?

Great job! I didn’t follow all the discussion, why the blue saber should be crackle? Is it because Rey fix Luke’s broken saber and the kyber is damaged?

Sinking Fields scene suggestion: I noticed that in this scene Finn calls many times Rey to tell her something; the part “Rey, i have to tell you something…” was rightly removed, but when Finn call her, she reply with “What? Finn”. So that “What?” has no sense, because it’s connect to removed part and if you are sinking in sand I think you don’t scream “What?”. So i tried to remove that and replace the line with a “Rey!” screamed by Finn taken from the battle Rey-Kylo on destroyed Death Star (in that scene some Finn’s screams was removed in Ascendant final edit). What do you think?

I am agree with you, Hal. Also in TROS not has sense, but they used Hayden’s voice, so it wasn’t possible not to use his aspect in Ascendant.

I’ll try to improve the close-up shots of the saber in part 2 tomorrow.

And unfortunately, I don’t have the original material of the movie on my computer, that’s why I’m working with Hal’s version. But that shouldn’t be a problem, I can provide the After Effect files of each shot, then replacing the video with the original shot of the movie would be the only work needed.

Great Job, Luka. I don’t know why LucasFilm didn’t add this detail on Luke/Anakin’s lightsaber. And how Rey repaired the lightsaber. Anyway I ask to all community: in others media like comics or novel, they explain this things? I mean why the lightsaber is destroied at the end of TLJ and then in TROS is completely fixed?

1. you should be able to get a decent recording off the iphone, its not gonna be as good as if you had a quality mic but i know lots of people who use the voice memo feature on iphones to get decent recordings… not ideal but possible

2. depending on the voice yes, voice actors can do a wide range or voices, now you can also take a single voice performance and split it into different harmonies, so it all depends on the voice performer

3.I can help with creating ur Kylo mask voice if you have the material for me to work with yes… I would recreate his voice in ProTools tho, i am not personally versed in Adobe Audition.

Hi Daniel. I’m trying to create the Italian track audio of Hal9000’s TROS: Ascendant Edit. I have to add some original lines that are not included in the original movie. Unfortunately I don’t have professional microphone to record that lines. I can use iPhone, iPhone earphones (cable and wireless) or mic from MacBook or Sony a6400. I have some questions:

• is it possible reach a good quality with this instruments?
• is it possible change the vocal timbre of a single voice to make two or more differents voices?
• can you help me to create Kylo Ren’s mask voice effect?
  I’m using Adobe Audition.
  Sorry if some questions are not to your competence.

But to respect your and other editors job (great job), I think the right thing to do is translate almost totally your edit, near 95%, especially the lines of Kylo, KoR and Palpatine, because in my opinion fixes some parts of the original movie that were not so good. I decided to not translate some parts because in fact are not so important.

Così ho deciso di lavorare alla traccia italiana di questa versione (V1), e mi servirebbe il vostro aiuto qualora foste interessati e soprattutto vi sentitate adatti per questo scopo.
Hal9000 e tutti gli altri collaboratori, hanno aggiunto dialoghi non presenti nel film originale, pertanto hanno registrato le frasi e poi aggiunte in montaggio.
Nel dettaglio si tratta di pochi dialoghi. Ho provato io stesso a registrarli, ma oltre a non avere la strumentazione tecnica per farli, non mi sento del tutto all’altezza del lavoro. Nel dettaglio i dialoghi sono:

• Kylo Ren: “Avevi ragione”. (minuto 58:26)
• Cavalieri di Ren: “Il wookie di Solo…” “Io mi prendo i suoi denti” (minuto 35:46) “Kylo Ren vuole la ragazza viva. Uccidete gli altri” (minuto 46:35) “bhe, guardate chi è arrivato. Traditore!” (a 1:45:43)
• Discorso Palpatine: “il giorno della vittoria è a portata di mano. Il giorno dei Sith.”(minuto 13:41)
  Le frasi ovviamente si possono adattare in altri modi, le ho prese direttamente dalla versione di Hal per rispetto al suo lavoro.
  Proverò sicuramente a registrarle per conto mio, però penso che avere voci diversificate tra i vari personaggi migliorino la qualità e il valore del progetto. Riguardo a Kylo Ren bisognerebbe attenersi al timbro del doppiatore italiano, riguardo i Cavalieri di Ren direi massima libertà basta rispettare le intenzioni dei dialoghi aggiunti, mentre per Palpatine bisognerebbe lavorare facendo una sorta di imitazione, dato che quel dialogo non esiste in italiano perché preso da un evento avvenuto su Fortnite.
