Anything?
Anything?
Days like today make me wish I had something to contribute to the drunk thread…
In all seriousness, it has been a rough day.
Sorry to hear that, man. Hope you can get some rest tonight and have a better tomorrow.
I just had a medium sized Dr. Pepper. Yowza!
I just finished half a can of Dr. Pepper! My body dosen’t know what to do with all this sugar, so maybe I shouldn’t be posting in this thread!
Mark’s Down On Your Syntax said:
Glad Warbler’s come back.
Glad Jani’s been made to sit on the naughty step. I was beginning to shout, “SERENITY NOW!” whenever I read a new post.
lol! That was great. Loved the guy bringing him new nachos.
What a handsome group we are!
I’m a Devo Fiend.
Q: Are We Not Men?
A: We Are 138!
Also, thumbs up, Duracell. That’s one of my #1 favorite movies.
but the same soul reincarnated at a different time.
I hate this to pieces.
Also, I thought Frink thought that was Peter Pan.Come on, I know it’s Zelda!
It’s Link, right?
It’s My Little Pony. But dressed as Link. I think…
Coffee thread?
I had the rather extraordinary feeling of being ‘inside’ the music. It quite literally felt like my mind was inside the song itself, and everything about the way it was written, performed, and mixed just made so much sense, in a powerful way I can hardly describe.
This is my main reason for smoking!
I agree, but this set in during the carbon freezing scene in Empire. 3PO suddenly becomes the voice that tells the idiots in the audience what’s going on and that trait follows him to Jedi.
It’s plot exposition. It has to go somewhere.
IMHO his exposition in ESB is forgivable as the audience is obviously completely unfamiliar with the potential outcomes of carbon freezing a human being. Having Threepio inform the audience is beneficial, and the way it was written was handled quite deftly.
But Vader, Fett and Lando already tell us everything we need to know there. The dangers and the outcome. The exposition was handled very well until 3PO starts talking. Then it’s info dump for those who can’t pay attention.
It’s always sounded ham fisted/shoehorned to me. Just like his many moments in Jedi.
The Stand by Stephen King. Wow, this is long.
Which version are you reading?
MM plays no part in my Zelda world. I just never got into that one. Looks cool, but no fun for me. But I can see it being a sequel to OOT.
I don’t see anything in the other titles that goes so far away from the story in LOZ that I can no longer see it as retelling by another culture or in another time. Legends get changed radically in our real world. Works for me anyways.
Aren’t we all? That’s life.
I prefer to think of each game as it’s own telling of the legend of Zelda. Any attempt to connect it as a series turns me right off.
(Though I do see AOL as a direct sequel to LOZ featuring the same characters)

That’s one of the things that I’d like Ady to consider changing, what many people have referred to as the “Flanderization” of C-3PO. While Threepio is certainly a worrywart, that personality trait has become a caricature in ROTJ. In ANH, Threepio successfully bluffed past Stormtroopers on the Death Star and was decisive in choosing when to leave hiding and try to board the Falcon. In ROTJ the caricature version of Threepio has been left out of the plan and (because of his ignorance) could easily work against it at any moment.
I would like to see any edits made that could instead have him included in the plan.
3PO is more than a worrywart. You’re ignoring Empire, where he says “I really don’t see how that is going to help. Surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative in extreme circumstances. The Empire may be gracious and…”[Leia shuts him off]. He also dismissed R2’s mission in ANH in favor of hanging out with Luke and trusting Luke with any potentially classified information simply because “he’s our new master.” 3PO can not be trusted with sensitive information because he surrenders too easily when under pressure.
Meanwhile, R2 knows when to keep his mouth shut, so to speak.
I have to give you that one with regards to his ability to be a liability, although I still think that they’ve hurt his character with terrible dialogue such as “Oh look, it’s Captain Solo” and “Oh no, Chewbacca!”.
I agree, but this set in during the carbon freezing scene in Empire. 3PO suddenly becomes the voice that tells the idiots in the audience what’s going on and that trait follows him to Jedi.
Didn’t you say something about smoking weed one time? That’s been shown to help migraines so maybe if you already do that you should try it next time you get one. I know it relaxes tense blood vessels and regular intake can lower blood pressure which can both help.
It does help! Sometimes. Not once it’s set in, but if I’m at home when it starts…
It sounds like ‘real stuff’ to me. When you’re more able to type, do you know why you’re getting these migraines? I know someone who got them all the time until they cut caffeine out of their diet, and now just gets them when storms roll in.
Sudden changes in the weather bring em on (so why do I still live in Missouri??), but there’s gotta be other things too. I’ve been on food and sleep studies, but nothing was found there.
I’ve suffered migraines for 11 years now and can relate to that.
Do you know what triggers yours? What do you do for em?
I’ve found that taking a BC Powder as soon as I feel it coming on can cancel it out much of the time. I take at least two every day. First thing in the morning and another late afternoon/early evening. Dr. told me that taking anything for it once it’s set in is about as useful as throwing a cup of water at a house fire.As for my depression and whatever, I feel pretty embarrassed about bringing that to the forums. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support.
Glad you’re still here!
Caffeine is tops on my trigger list. Had it make a hunger migraine so bad once several years ago, I though I was either going to pass out or die. I don’t drink soda that much anymore, but caffeine free is the way to go.
See, a cup of coffee is my best friend when I have a migraine. I like the warmth and the caffeine seems to help.
Cigarette smoke can also be a trigger or make it worse. And possibly other types of smoke or exhaust. The first one I had in 2006 happened as I stepped off a train into an covered station platform. The strong smell of diesel exhaust was like a bomb going off in my head. That’s still in the top five worst migraines I ever had.
I’ve not thought much about exhaust n’ such… hmm.
Another culprit is open florescent light fixtures. I have enclosed fixtures in my home that don’t bother me in the least. This may be less of an issue in the future as LED types replace them, but some florescents in my house are pushing 20 and show no sign of going bad. Dark sunglasses might help with that. Haven’t had a chance to prove my theory on that yet.
Florescent lights do it for sure! I hate em!
I’ve been often told chocolate is the worst trigger of all, but I’ve never had a problem with it. I think it can really vary from person to person. Other people have told me certain noises or smells can be triggers. And not always unpleasant ones.
Yeah chocolate gives em to my dad, but not me.
In recent years I’ve learned to recognize the little warning signs that a migraine is in the neighborhood. I’ll get light sensitivity, car headlights can be especially painful. And sounds that never bothered me before can be suddenly be shrill and borderline painful. A good example is the timer beeping on my oven.
Yep. All of that. Light and sound sensitivity. As soon as that starts, I try to get to my meds. Soon after those symptoms start, I start seeing “auras” around everything and the world is a blur of pain.
Taking meds for the migraine when I feel one coming on can put the fire out before it really starts. If I miss that window, (some get a toehold before I wake up in the morning) it can take hours
Yeah, I wake up with em often. I’m usually woken by the pain and it’s clearly too late for meds to do anything and my day is screwed.
What is BC powder anyway?
It’s 1000mg of asprin and 65mg of caffeine in powder form. You can put it in water and drink it, or, as I do, just pour it onto your tongue and swallow it with water. www.bcpowder.com You can find it at most drug stores, walmart, ect. But if the caffeine makes it worse, it may not be a good option for you.
It’s aggravating. Doc says anything could be the cause making migraines almost impossible to treat. My Dad knows that it’s chocolate that give em to him and that knowledge puts him in a very small category of lucky ducks.
I’m not so young or old that I need someone to read to me. 😉
Hey. I’m only 39, and I love audiobooks. My wife and I have listened to Harry Potter (by Stephen Fry) and The Belgariad enough times to have lost count. And Orson Scott Card went on record in the afterword for the 30th Anniversary audiobook of Ender’s Game to say that he thought “hearing it read aloud is the superior way to experience this story.”
Before the majority of the populous was literate, and long before the advent of film and television, being a storyteller was actually a thing. Hearing a story told to you by an accomplished narrator can be an enjoyable experience.
Oh, I was really just kidding. I get the appeal and have a couple as well. Stephen King’s The Mist in “3D audio” is very cool. Sound effects and all that. I guess that’s more like a radio drama than an audiobook though.
I used to read Oscar Wilde plays to my friends at their request. It was always lot’s of fun to play all the parts!
Thanks for the kind words and support, guys.
Like I’ve said, I feel silly and kinda embarrassed to talk about these things. I’d put it in the Support thread, but I feel my own issues are so small compared to those of others here and I don’t wanna come of as… I dunno.
I was thinking of taking a break from the forum and most of the internet for a bit. I’ve cut out a few other things from my life, just to “get away” for little awhile. But, after really thinking about it, coming here to goof off or talk movies n’ crap… well it’s become kinda important to me I guess. I’ve been coming here for about 8 years now and the people here are certainly the reason. Weather you know it, want it or like it, I think of you as buddies.
Just saying you care means more to me than you may realize.
So, thanks, fellas. You’ve helped bring the colars back to my day. 😉
