Limited edition VHS tapes! š
More people probably own tape decks than 3D TVs
Would that be a big surprise though? āWeāre putting the PT and OT on formats not that many people own!ā Doubt thatās the announcement
Back to speculation of Celebration please. Donāt wanna discuss prequel stuff
I read an article on the CGI Tarkin on fxguide.com a few months ago. In said article, they used an image from A New Hope which to me clearly looked like it was from a new scan:
https://www.fxguide.com/featured/part-3-rogue-one-digital-humans/
Interesting. I saw what youāre talking about. That still is definitely not from the Blu-Ray
Looks like they used the 2011 version of A New Hope for those Rogue One featurettes
The Star Wars Show again hinted at something huge happening during the 40 Year Anniversary panel todayā¦
Aye, they made a pretty big deal about itā¦

It feels like theyāre hinting at a George Lucas appearance, though I doubt he wants anything to do with it now.
That would be awkward considering he called Disney white slavers.
Iād love a series about the fall of Ben Solo, itād definitely be more dramatic than a book about it.
As for the Celebration surprise(s), someone mentioned earlier the possibility of it being a Lucas appearance. That would be fitting, and I donāt think anyone said the surprise would be any kind of announcement. If anything, the big surprise being merchandise of any kind, including a new home media release, would probably get an underwhelming āmaking the fans buy the same movies againā response, OOT or not. That doesnāt sound like a fitting enough surprise for such a huge panel.
Most Star Wars fans buy things over and over again without hesitation and for those who donāt shouldnāt complain about it because they arenāt forced to buy anything
They restored Turkish Star Wars!?
They found a print of it and itās on its way to be restored to my knowledge.
How are they going to release that film? Itās full of copyright infringement
Quick side question:
Iām just throwing this out there for anyone who might have the answer, but do we know exactly why Fox loses the rights to the other five movies in 2020 as opposed to some other time?
Just to clarify, Iām not asking for an explanation of why theyāre losing the rights. That much has been made clear. Iām just wondering why itās happening in 2020 and not some other time. Iām also curious how we were able to figure this out in the first place. There was an article written on some website shortly after the Disney deal that gave the 2020 date, but I donāt think it was ever explained how the writer knew it was 2020.
This article in the Hollywood reporter is the main source for the 2020 date, which is a solid source for industry reporting. A āfox insiderā was apparently interviewed for the article.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tangled-rights-could-tie-up-384541Itās also worth remembering that Disney has digital distribution rights to all but ANH.
So what? They have to give Fox money every time a digital copy of the Special Edition of a New Hope sells.
What would waiting till 2020 change? Nothing. Theyāll have to give Fox money for every sale of Star Wars, Special Edition
or not.Actually, Disney canāt sell ANH digital copies at all. You canāt buy ANH on the Disney Movies Anywhere platform.
Right, I have forgotten about this. Still, Disney has nothing to wait for, as Fox owns Star Wars forever, correct?

I really donāt think āuntitled fairy taleā would have anything to do with Star Wars.
Maybe thatās what they want you to think haha
Seriously, people will bring the main discussion regarding what may or may not be seen at Celebration 2017 here.
Yes.
Seriously though, now I have to check two threads instead of just the one.
The horror
I speculate the other thread was just fine
Are you referring to the 4K thread?
Weāll get a special release of the theatrical original trilogy on glorious VHS!
AND in pan and scan!
Not to throw fuel on the fire but, considering the rumor about July 28th being a theatrical re-release of the originalā¦
This magazine is coming out July 25. Now, it could totally be coincidence but isnāt it a bit strange that a 40th Anniversary book is coming out 3 days before this supposed theatrical re-release? Instead of in May?
First Iām hearing about this rumor. Was it brought up earlier in the thread or did news (well, rumor) of it just break somewhere else?
If that book doesnāt reference the theatrical version of the film, then itās useless to me
I speculateā¦I will again have gotten my hopes too high. Signs exist that point towards an OOT announcement (or at least new transfers that arenāt complete sh**), but I just canāt remotely believe any of it right now. Iām refusing to get all excited till then.
But more seriously, I think Iāll be holding back the tears again. Iām taking off work to ensure I can watch Mark Hamillās tribute to Carrie Fisher live. Over 3 months, and somehow I still donāt know how to accept it. Iām sure theyāll be plenty of laughs though, I really hope the atmosphere during Celebration surrounding her is kept true to her most wonderful sense of humor.
For me, finding out whether or not certain predictions are true or false is all part of the fun.
Getting back on topic with 4k restoration. (Maybe someone can post a separate thread to move all the Celebration speculation out).
Say no more fam

Post all your speculation here and not in the 4K restoration thread!
Weāll probably have some sweet 35mm fan restorations by 2020 though. Star Wars 4K77 and works of the sort.
I hope so, Iām grateful for what we have do have. But I think the goal is still to get Disney and LFL to release an official, high quality version of the original films.
Right. All we can do is speculate and perhaps start another petition but Iām 101% sure Disney and Fox know we want the OOT
Man, another (almost) two weeks of this infighting?
It will probably be 3 more years. Because when it doesnāt happen in 2 weeks, Moviefreak will just swear itās going to come out in 2020.

Giving us an alternate way to watch Star Wars (giving us the OOT) wouldnāt be removing Hayden if they make both versions available. Which is what I would assume that they would do if they do such a release.
That Republican comparison is beyond childish. Itās also childish to assume Hayden Christensen has a huge ego because āhe stared in films I didnāt likeā or because of āthat special edition editā. Itās like the people who defended GhostBusters 2016 are in the chat. āThey didnāt like it, well, theyāre ignorant Republicans.ā
I watched the prequels when I was young, and I hated Episodes I and II. I enjoyed III because Ian McDiarmid was great in that film.
As far as Iām concerned, the only reason why we wouldnāt get the OOT now is because the current Blu rays and digital versions of the films sell enough for the studios not to care. I donāt think George has this control in some kind of contract or anything
If anything, if Hayden is in the film and gives us a good performance, that would redeem him in the Star Wars universe. People will see him as that excellent role in The Last Jedi and not annoying Anakin from the prequels.
It legitimizes the Special Editions and every other terrible ass change Lucas did.
Thatās like, your opinion man.
Iām fine with them sticking to the SE as the main canon versions of the OT as long as they give us the OOT
