The Star Wars Show again hinted at something huge happening during the 40 Year Anniversary panel today…

Aye, they made a pretty big deal about it…

It feels like they’re hinting at a George Lucas appearance, though I doubt he wants anything to do with it now.

That would be awkward considering he called Disney white slavers.

I’d love a series about the fall of Ben Solo, it’d definitely be more dramatic than a book about it.

As for the Celebration surprise(s), someone mentioned earlier the possibility of it being a Lucas appearance. That would be fitting, and I don’t think anyone said the surprise would be any kind of announcement. If anything, the big surprise being merchandise of any kind, including a new home media release, would probably get an underwhelming ā€œmaking the fans buy the same movies againā€ response, OOT or not. That doesn’t sound like a fitting enough surprise for such a huge panel.

Most Star Wars fans buy things over and over again without hesitation and for those who don’t shouldn’t complain about it because they aren’t forced to buy anything

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Quick side question:

I’m just throwing this out there for anyone who might have the answer, but do we know exactly why Fox loses the rights to the other five movies in 2020 as opposed to some other time?

Just to clarify, I’m not asking for an explanation of why they’re losing the rights. That much has been made clear. I’m just wondering why it’s happening in 2020 and not some other time. I’m also curious how we were able to figure this out in the first place. There was an article written on some website shortly after the Disney deal that gave the 2020 date, but I don’t think it was ever explained how the writer knew it was 2020.

This article in the Hollywood reporter is the main source for the 2020 date, which is a solid source for industry reporting. A ā€œfox insiderā€ was apparently interviewed for the article.

It’s also worth remembering that Disney has digital distribution rights to all but ANH.

So what? They have to give Fox money every time a digital copy of the Special Edition of a New Hope sells.
What would waiting till 2020 change? Nothing. They’ll have to give Fox money for every sale of Star Wars, Special Edition
or not.

Actually, Disney can’t sell ANH digital copies at all. You can’t buy ANH on the Disney Movies Anywhere platform.

Right, I have forgotten about this. Still, Disney has nothing to wait for, as Fox owns Star Wars forever, correct?

Not to throw fuel on the fire but, considering the rumor about July 28th being a theatrical re-release of the original…

This magazine is coming out July 25. Now, it could totally be coincidence but isn’t it a bit strange that a 40th Anniversary book is coming out 3 days before this supposed theatrical re-release? Instead of in May?

First I’m hearing about this rumor. Was it brought up earlier in the thread or did news (well, rumor) of it just break somewhere else?

If that book doesn’t reference the theatrical version of the film, then it’s useless to me

I speculate…I will again have gotten my hopes too high. Signs exist that point towards an OOT announcement (or at least new transfers that aren’t complete sh**), but I just can’t remotely believe any of it right now. I’m refusing to get all excited till then.

But more seriously, I think I’ll be holding back the tears again. I’m taking off work to ensure I can watch Mark Hamill’s tribute to Carrie Fisher live. Over 3 months, and somehow I still don’t know how to accept it. I’m sure they’ll be plenty of laughs though, I really hope the atmosphere during Celebration surrounding her is kept true to her most wonderful sense of humor.

For me, finding out whether or not certain predictions are true or false is all part of the fun.

We’ll probably have some sweet 35mm fan restorations by 2020 though. Star Wars 4K77 and works of the sort.

I hope so, I’m grateful for what we have do have. But I think the goal is still to get Disney and LFL to release an official, high quality version of the original films.

Right. All we can do is speculate and perhaps start another petition but I’m 101% sure Disney and Fox know we want the OOT

Giving us an alternate way to watch Star Wars (giving us the OOT) wouldn’t be removing Hayden if they make both versions available. Which is what I would assume that they would do if they do such a release.

That Republican comparison is beyond childish. It’s also childish to assume Hayden Christensen has a huge ego because ā€œhe stared in films I didn’t likeā€ or because of ā€œthat special edition editā€. It’s like the people who defended GhostBusters 2016 are in the chat. ā€œThey didn’t like it, well, they’re ignorant Republicans.ā€

I watched the prequels when I was young, and I hated Episodes I and II. I enjoyed III because Ian McDiarmid was great in that film.

If anything, if Hayden is in the film and gives us a good performance, that would redeem him in the Star Wars universe. People will see him as that excellent role in The Last Jedi and not annoying Anakin from the prequels.

It legitimizes the Special Editions and every other terrible ass change Lucas did.

That’s like, your opinion man.

I’m fine with them sticking to the SE as the main canon versions of the OT as long as they give us the OOT
