Where are Jake and Elwood when we really need them?
Ha, Illinois Nazis!

Ha, Illinois Nazis!
Unfortunately Trump either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about the consequences of anything he does, and it seems neither do you.
Pot, meet kettle? 😉
That doesn’t even make any sense.
Who said anything about feeling superior?
I’ve not seen either of the Jurassic Park sequels (pre-Jurassic World).
I’m out of cocaine.
President Trump did not follow specific warnings from his national security advisers when he congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin Tuesday on his reelection, including a section in his briefing materials in all-capital letters stating “DO NOT CONGRATULATE,” according to officials familiar with the call.
Hilarious.
Yep. It’s really funny when our President fucks things up. I think this is what I hate most about the attitudes of Trump supporters and apologists. It’s the total lack of interest they have in the horrible things he does. Often, they seem to enjoy it. I don’t get it at all.
Stalker, Raiders, Star Wars, Scream, Wizard of Oz, The Breakfast Club, Lord of the Flies (1963), Last of the Mohicans, Rocky, and many, many others are perfect films in my eyes.
My opinion is that the joke is funny, not that the film is bad. I don’t have an opinion of the film, though I do think the twelve year shoot is inherently pretentious if it isn’t good.
That’s a dumb thing to think. If it isn’t good it’s not pretension, it’s just a failed experiment.
I suppose you’re not wrong, I just find it pretentious in an attention grabbing sort of way. Look at me, I spent a long time shooting this movie, now give me oscars.
So anytime a filmmaker wants to experiment with the filmmaking process it’s pretentious and attention grabbing? You don’t think it’s an interesting concept at all?
As for “now give me Oscars,” that’s ridiculous. This kind of thing is right in Linklater’s wheelhouse and he never gets nor (I would presume at this point) expects Academy recognition.
I guess it just seemed that way to me. It was a big marketing point IIRC.
It wasn’t. The movie wasn’t even really marketed all that much. The 12 years thing was all word of mouth.
Thing is, the movie is good.
Some beg to differ. But I won’t argue about the quality of the film since I ain’t seen it.
Exactly mfm’s initial point.
But mfm’s point is moot because I was never commenting on the quality of the film. I made a joke about people who think you aren’t allowed to dislike it because people were disagreeing with Handman about Birdman being better.
Nobody thinks people aren’t allowed to dislike it.
I’m pretty sure they made that follow-up video because they got a lot of flak online for not saying it was good.
They didn’t get any flak. Read the comments of their original video. It’s nothing but agreement. They got flak for not pretending to like Rogue One and I think they got some flak for hating Man of Steal, but other than that I can’t think of any of their reviews getting any backlash. I know my RLM, by the way. I know their stuff by heart.
EDIT: I also think that it’s important to throw in here that you keep using the word “some” to refer to the critics that don’t like Boyhood, but you’re obviously specifically referring to one entity, which is two reviewers, one of whom disliked it and the other thought it was a mixed bag and then that same entity obviously later played up their negative review to a hyperbolic extent for attention and comedic effect.
There are other people who didn’t think the film was good. Mike and Jay are just a primary example since they started the joke that I referenced.
Name me one. I know that there are others that don’t like it, but you are obviously basing all of this off of one specific outlet and one outlet only.
I don’t even like the movie that much, I just don’t like the RLM worship, and the reason I hate the RLM worship is because I actually really like RLM and don’t like the attitude of most of its fanbase.
I’m not worshiping RLM. I find their gags funny, so I reference them from time to time. God forbid someone reference a joke from the internet.
RLM fans often treat RLM videos as scripture or gospel. There’s an attitude to it that I don’t like.
My opinion is that the joke is funny, not that the film is bad. I don’t have an opinion of the film, though I do think the twelve year shoot is inherently pretentious if it isn’t good.

He never did that. People found the movie interesting for that reason after it came out. RLM just made up the Oscar-bait stuff. I am willing to bet money that Richard Linklater doesn’t go into his film projects with the “give me oscars” mindset.
Thing is, the movie is good.
Some beg to differ. But I won’t argue about the quality of the film since I ain’t seen it.
Most of the people mocking it, like you, haven’t actually seen it.
My opinion is that the joke is funny, not that the film is bad. I don’t have an opinion of the film, though I do think the twelve year shoot is inherently pretentious if it isn’t good.

Don’t you get it? People on a Youtube said that it was pretentious.

How is that inherently pretentious?
Dek Rollins said:
I find it funny, therefore by rule of Frink, it doesn’t matter if others are annoyed.
The problem is that it’s not funny.
Neither do I!
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a perfect film.
What about Suburban Commando?

I watched both when they were in theaters. I enjoyed both, but expected Boyhood to swamp all the awards, so rooted for Birdman because I felt it was the underdog and more entertaining. Boyhood was an experience, but one I wouldn’t really want to revisit.
I agree on Boyhood. I never saw Birdman, though.
I’m glad it won Best Picture over Boyhood.
How dare you say that. Didn’t you know it took 12 years to make?
It’s common on the internet for people to pretend that Boyhood is a bad movie and complain about it even though they haven’t seen it because a couple of homeless youtube critics didn’t like it.
I’m not complaining about it being bad. I’m joking about the pretention that someone wasting 12 years to shoot a movie inherently makes it good, which was a joke among people who actually didn’t like it after watching (can you tell I’m an RLM fan?). I haven’t seen it and I have no interest in it beyond mild curiousity.
EDIT: Also the RLM group (if you weren’t referring to them sorry for misunderstanding) is far from a bunch of homeless youtube critics. At least they’ve actually made some movies. I don’t know if they’re good though because I haven’t gotten around to watching them.
I’ve been watching RLM since before you finished elementary school. I just find their shittiest and most unfunny and irrelevant meme obnoxious because it’s overused and not funny. It isn’t a joke among people who actually didn’t like it after watching, it’s a joke told by people who haven’t seen the move but saw RLM tell the joke, like you.
Because they definitely didn’t use that joke again after the initial review? Oh wait, they did. It’s a joke that they made, and occasionally it pops up again. That’s generally how inside jokes with friends work. Of course fans who enjoy the joke continue to make it when relevant in some way. I don’t see how it’s obnoxious.
They created that joke after their original review and also ran it into the ground in their unfunny and over-the-top follow up video that is similar in humor-style to the Ghostbusters remake. They gave the film credit for being an interesting experiment in their initial review. It’s obnoxious because it’s not funny. At all. It’s also obnoxious because it’s just an example of the cult-worship that I wish RLM didn’t have because they’re a great channel, but the fans’ worship of them annoys me. I think it annoys them too based on some little comments they’ve made.
And I don’t think the fact that I’m younger than you or that you’ve watched their material for a longer time than me is relevant to this conversation.
It was because you were telling me about RLM’s great accomplishments. By the way, my homeless person comment is pretty similar to how they would make fun of themselves.
I haven’t seen it and I have no interest in it beyond mild curiousity.
But IT TOOK 12 YEARS TO MAAAAAAKE!! How can you just sit there not watching it!?
Exactly! That’s why I’m so excited to watch
BOYHOOD
Wow, hilarious.
Exactly.
I’m glad it won Best Picture over Boyhood.

I don’t know why, but this really made me laugh extremely hard.
He’s part of the Borg.
Disapproval of her is not support of Trump. Claiming they’re equally bad is, because it’s giving Trump waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit.
A logical alternative under your view is that I’m not giving her enough credit.
If that makes you feel better then ok.
I feel great saying they’re both bad options and that logically not being a defense of either.
Yeah but you’re not being logical if you think they’re both equally bad options.
no, its the same. i had to find a pair of socks this morning. it was dark, so i couldn’t tell what color the one was, and i was worried that maybe it was a bad color. The other one i knew was crusty and gross, because i stepped on a slug the night before when taking out the trash in my socks.
Yeah, you’re not fooling anyone with that excuse.
I’m glad it won Best Picture over Boyhood.

Well, of course, but I thought we were talking about America here.
It is a small portion. I don’t even get what yhx’s point is. It’s common knowledge that at least 90% of the American population is completely fucking stupid, so the fact that 20% of it made bad voting decisions doesn’t surprise me.
It’s common on the internet for people to pretend that Boyhood is a bad movie and complain about it even though they haven’t seen it because a couple of homeless youtube critics didn’t like it. I’m not saying that this is Handman’s position, because he seems reasonable enough, but that’s a common position in a lot of internet circles.
I don’t think so, but everything longer than about a year ago is fuzzy to me.
