Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I once had a similar issue. Move the HDDs to SATA ports 0 and 1 (some can be labelled A0 and A1) on the motherboard if not already. If they are in A0 and A1 I think this will help.

edit: I forgot you had 2 HDDs and an optical drive which I assume is also sata controlled... easy answer would be to make a bootable usb from your windows disk. Apart from that, try to avoid any A0 or A1 but go for A0 if it's your only option. I'm don't recall why but sometimes they can be redundant depending on set up. I can't seem to google good information on your board or the controllers so it's a bit of a stab in the dark :(

Wow, I go away for a few days and all this happens!

Harmy, I think you should allow donations until at least the end of the month and see what you get, it could be substantially more than you budgeted for and allow for even better components than previously discussed. A point on SSDs though, as I understand it, previous fears about writing life of them were greatly exaggerated and with modern SSDs it's barely even a factor at all.

I do hope that you will use anything left over to enjoy a night out as well - if anyone here deserves it, you do!

I desperately want to contribute as this has been a project I have followed for a very long time and having burned several copies of the trilogy as it is right now for my friends and family I know just how much they treasure them like I do - it's a wonderful project and I will forever be in debt to you. What I can offer won't be much but once pay day comes (the end of the month) I'll be sure to send it on to you.

It's lovely to see the community help when required :)

Those are sweet! Why are the official releases never even close to this? Oh that's right LucasFilm and Fox have always been operated by twats.

Quick question, does the U thing need to be on the spine? As in to keep the covers "international".

 Thanks :)

The 'Universal' logo indicates that this is suitable for all audiences - I put the logo there because it's how I remember my old old VHS looking mainly but you'll find this or similar logos on most BD and DVD releases. I wanted the spines to not look out of places in peoples collections.

Ok that didn't take long - edited the Jedi art, looks much better now!

Thanks ultrakaiju - I have posted this on Harmys covers thread and added a small image of all 3 here, they look a bit rubbish in such low res but people can get the idea I suppose.

Feallan - I was thinking the same but it's kind of necessary in that it's the colour most prevalent in the rest of the artwork... I'll have a think about it though!

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers
Time

Hi all, while waiting impatiently for the blu-ray of Harmys most excellent DE, I got to work on some box artwork for the discs. I like the ones I've seen so far but I fancied giving it a go using the classic theatrical posters and I tried to keep it minimal (saving audio/despec/video information for an inlay) - I don't know if anyone on here would like them but thought I would upload them in case.

I purposely left off most mentions of despecialized as to me these are the definitive editions of the movies in HD, nothing else comes close so this, for me, is just Star Wars, and nothing more. Does that make sense?

That's the link to full res versions I made. Enjoy!

Wanted to run it by you in case you took issue with it at all, if so I will take them down. http://www.multiupload.nl/LJBTB4DZ2Z - new link for better Jedi art.

Also, did you manage to find an appropriate piece of software to make the BD disc yet? I tried to find something but kept running into brick walls but I will keep looking if you are still having trouble yourself.

Thanks again x

Cool, I'll see if I figure something out by then and if not, I'll take you up on the offer :-)

Well I have access to Scenarist but it's complaining about the video file being unsupported. I imagine it's a header issue but I'm learning as I go on. I'll keep looking into it but I'm out tomorrow night so I'll post again on Wednesday evening UK time.

I may be able to get my hands on Sonic Scenarist BD which appears to be the only decent authoring tool out there. I have friends with better knowledge and access and providing I can learn how to use it (which I should be able to, I usually can figure new software out very quickly) I'd be more than happy to help.

I should know in a couple of days if it's something I can deliver on.

Cobra Kai said: Thanks for the info.  Was just about to research this.

To elaborate, as it's not quite so straight forward... while you can find MKVtools easily (even though it often goes by the name MoKgVm2DVD), the version of tsMuxer you require is called VoxMac Unofficial build, it's on the videohelp website (address below) and is listed under 'More information and other downloads' - it's the one listed for OSX SnowLeopard. Annoyingly for it to work correctly you need to remove 2 korean language fonts from your Library - it tells you exactly which ones in one of the read me files when you mount the dmg.

It's a bit of a pain but easy when you figure it out. Unfortunately I've noticed the audio file names stripped from MKVtools are generic so are clearly stripped of the information about which track is which, you can tell the right order (stream 0, stream 1 etc) but when picking an audio track they all just say whatever language you assign to them in tsMuxer - if anyone can advise of a better demuxer for Mac that retains the audio track names, then I would love to hear about it! Seems so much easier on Windows :(

Concerning blank media, what is the best manufacturer of blank Bluray discs?  I am aware that the best DVD5s are from Taiyo Yuden, and the best DVD9s are from Verbatim's manufacturer in I think Singapore. What is the best manufacturer of Blurays to go with?

Yes this does matter. I tried burning Kerr's 6-disc Lord of the Rings set onto disc, and had to go out and buy more discs after I wasted a whole 20 pack spindle only to get 4 of them to work reliably on a standalone DVD player. I know it was the fault of the discs, not the data.

I use Verbatim discs, I get them off ebay (import from China) for just £2 a disc and haven't had one fail on me yet. I use an external Samsung drive. Don't know about any others but would recommend these to anyone asking.

FYI Mac users: to extract the files you want in order to make a blu-ray disc from an MKV was something I hadn't done before but a little research and I found MKVtools which can extract what you need before remuxing using tsMuxer to create a blu-ray compatible folder.

I had previously only used MKVtoolnix for remuxing MKVs but had never considered creating a BD from the files contained within. I had read that people can use MKVtoolnix to demux and then also create a BD compatible folder but I think you need certain compatible GUIs that only appear to be available for Windows as neither of these options appear in the Mac version.

You learn something new every day!

Harmy said: @michaeldc: There will be a nice menu and more lossless audio options on the BD, so that would be the only real difference.

Thank you for the reply Harmy, I think I'm gonna build my own blu-ray cutting out the things I won't need (all non English tracks and Subs), not that I don't appreciate the huge effort by all contributors. This is what I'll be watching until I can get my hands on the full BD - should be interesting to see if I don't make a total arse of it.

Quick question, as the BD is now split in two with the just the feature on disc 1, does that mean that if we get the MKV, create BD compatible files and burn it, it'll be exactly the same as what you (Harmy) will be uploading? I guess there will be menus, probably with audio/subtitle options on it as well?

I'm trying to decide whether or not I'll just make my own BD or whether you have anything special planned for disc 1 of the BD?

Thanks again for all your hard work - it truly is amazing and I just love the sources feature, I watch it way too often! Remarkable!

Hi Harmy, I signed up basically to let you know how awesome you are and how impressed I am by all this - I just watched the documentary on the sources and I'm simply blown away, it's absolutely incredible. You should be extremely proud.

I downloaded the latest version of the three films and they are stunning. I can't wait to have the BD discs for all three (however long that will take!) and it'll be the version I show my nephews and kids one day in the future for sure.

This is simply as good as I was hoping Lucasfilm would give us (and probably better). It's incredible and as LF has no intention of restoring the originals it's so reassuring to know that you done this - it is, what I have wanted for years now.

A million thanks to you.
