Info Wanted: Preserving RotS Theatrical Version - Is there any interest?
Time

Revenge of the Sith is probably the least deserving of a theatrical preservation, but it also seems to be the least difficult (please correct me if I’m mistaken). The only changes I’m aware of are the shortened “NOOOOO” (edit: an untrue rumor), the Kashyyyk rooftops, and the Utapau Clone Troopers. I’ve read that the color timing is very close to the original release.

Is there interest for a preservation? Are there adequate sources to create it? I would love to make an attempt.

(Please let me know if similar topics have been created previously).

Besides, that has nothing to do with my point. My point is that good guys being weaker again is a boring rehash element.

I wouldn’t say the Resistance was weaker than the First Order. The First Order is only a fraction the size of the Empire, and the Resistance was secretly supported by the New Republic. Sure the FO had a not-a-death star, but they (as far as we know) seem to only have one capital ship and not a whole lot of clout in terms of galactic control. The Resistance is still rag-taggy like the Rebellion, but I think this time the fight is more evenly matched (although this may not be true in Ep. VIII given the destruction of the Republic capitol).

Project Threepio (Star Wars OOT subtitles)
Time

Catbus, thank you so much for your work here. My girlfriend and I are studying foreign languages, so Project Threepio + the language dubs included with the Despecialized editions will be a godsend.

Speaking of which, do the dubs included with the desp. releases “line up” with the subtitles here? For example, if I use the Latino Spanish dub with the Latino Spanish subtitles, will they match word for word?

Harmy's STAR WARS Respecialized Edition '97 - AVCHD and MKV Released
Time

I would totally support Respecialized versions of TESB and RotJ. Even though I’m most familiar with the original releases, there’s something intriguing about the '97 versions. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them fully. I really hope Harmy decides to do it! However I know a tremendous amount of work is required for these things.

Are there any mistakes/inaccuracies in SW Respecialized or is it pretty much complete?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I started playing with the different audio tracks that come with the Despecialized releases. I’m completely blown away! The work put into this whole project never fails to amaze me.

I did notice what I think is an error however. In the mono audio mix, Leia’s blaster in the chasm doesn’t have its “gunshot” sound as I think it’s supposed to have. Is this a known issue or am I mistaken?

Star Wars vs. A New Hope - Which do you say and why?

I call it “A New Hope” or “Episode IV” because nobody outside of a minority of fanboys cares what it’s called.

I’d try to parse this sentence in a way that isn’t unintentionally self-deprecating, but why?

My point was that most people who I come across have always known ANH as ANH or Episode IV, and not just “Star Wars”. So to call it “Star Wars” would then require me to give them the whole run-down of it being given a subtitle and episode number and whatnot. Using “Episode IV” just makes it easy to identify what you’re talking about to everybody. I could call it “Star Wars: The Adventures of Owen Lars’s Charred Corpse” and it would be a better description than just “Star Wars”. And I seriously can’t imagine anyone in real life getting fussy about word choice.

I guess no one here went to the marathon leading up to TFA last December to see which versions were being run?

My friend (who’s a projectionist) did. He says the DCP’s are sourced from the 2011 Blu’s, except for TPM, which was a 2D folddown of the 3D version.

What differences exist in the 3D release?

Info: Evidence of TFA Changes in Blu-ray?
Time

I know that there’s another thread about this, but it has not been re-opened despite the Blu-ray release date passing. I ask that a mod merges this thread with that one.

A Redditor noticed differences in the arrangement of flags at Maz’s castle. This could either be a difference between the trailer and the actual movie, or the theatrical release and the blu-ray. Nonetheless, I thought it would be worth discussing.
