I agree. The heart of the movie was the interplay between Luke, Rey, Kylo and Snoke. And almost all of it worked for me. That’s why I like the movie overall, despite the fact I felt the other storylines were flawed and dragged it down somewhat. Whatever you think about the plot holes of the space chase or Finn’s prequely adventures on Canto Bight, you’re ought to love the movie if you feel the story of the “Force” characters were satisfying, and hate it if you don’t.

This is really what it comes down to. The Last Jedi will stick with me far more than TFA (which I liked) since it just did the core characters so well in my opinion. The interplay of Luke, Kylo, and Rey was the heart of the movie and I think RJ knocked it out of the park, so despite Canto Bight and a bit too much humor for my liking, I still really love the film and think it’s the best since Empire and SW. It simply hits me on an emotional level that TFA failed to reach.

I’m in the same boat. I loved Mark, Adam, Daisey and Carrie so much in the film. I will admit the Holdo stuff was weaker and the Canto Bight stuff could have been better. TFA did its job for me- I cared about the new characters.

I think it will be open ended. It’s better to be able to continue the adventures of young Solo.

How old was Han Solo in ANH?

29/30

Yep, although in general Star Wars is vague with character ages and timeframes. I actually don’t even know where this number comes from but it seems to be generally agreed upon.

Only Luke and Leia have definite ages, they were 19 in Star Wars. I wonder if they might age Han to 33/34 (Harrison’s actual age) to allow a bigger gap between Solo and Star Wars.

Star Wars moving forward without Ms. Fisher

I was convinced Leia would be in IX via footage from the prior films, and honestly, to an extent, I still am. The film’s still early in development, so despite what KK says, the plan is still likely subject to change. If they don’t include her, it’ll just be one more thing to add to my list of changes to make in my edits. Killing Leia offscreen between films like this is just unacceptable, regardless of Fisher’s death.

There really isn’t much they can do unless they make another Rogue One Tarkin. I’d rather have her go between the films and really focus on Poe as the new leader of the Resistance/Rebellion. He can talk about her and stuff. Oh and maybe we get Poe/Connix?

Also Kylo will never get to see his mother again. He will be all alone, and the last Skywalker. Make lemonade out of lemons.

I have not pondered them for years because those scenes never bothered me.

What I used to ponder were much more mundane matters, such as where are the bathrooms on the Death Star and how do Stormtroopers go in those outfits? Flip up codpieces? 😛

Could they be like the suits in Dune and filter your pee and poo so you don’t even need to take them off?

Yeah Leia had a red blade, I remember that. In the old comics there was a villain with a blue saber with two blades as well. Purple, blue and yellow were all used by bad guys in Dark Forces II.

In the 1998 Extended Universe Line, Dark Empire Luke and Leia both had red lightsabers. Clone Emperor had blue.

I used to use the yellow saber that came with Plo Koon to give Kyle Katarn Yun’s Saber.

I didn’t say it was easier, I said it was more comfortable for Lucas. With digital cameras, he could review any scene immediately without leaving his chair. The technical difficulties or the final result didn’t bother him too much.

This is an interesting thought.

I’d heard Lucas wasn’t really an actors’ director from his work on Star Wars (A New Hope), but I was stunned the first time I saw him sitting there on the set of one of the prequels drinking his giant coffee watching actors live on two TV monitors like he was filming a soap opera that had to get five episodes done that week. Isn’t there one behind the scene clip we he mentions sometimes he forgets to yell, “Cut”?

He wanted to build a film studio right on his property and film Episode 7 there before handing it off. Can you imagine? He would have directed in his bathrobe and it would be a good day if he remembered to close it.

Thought I would dig out the Star Wars Holiday Special as I had not seen it through in years.
Blimey! That was a real test of endurance. Even worse than I remembered.
The best thing about this recent viewing was the Cantina scene. I forgot all about the Mos Eisley creatures from the film appearing. It was good to see the costumes and masks of background aliens in more detail than the film.

The Cantina sequence has a different director than most of it. As I recall he was one of Lucas’ film school friends who George chose to direct it.

Which franchise is bigger and more iconic Star Wars or Harry Potter
Time

Star Wars. It changed the way we look at movies.

I applaud JK Rowling for writing books that made kids want to read, but some fans need to take those reading skills and use them on other books and stop comparing everything to Harry Potter (Some SW fans do this too).

The Star Wars movies on the whole are better than the Harry Potter ones, even with the who’s who of British actors in them. As long as Emma Watson (I irrationally hate her) is never in a Star Wars we will be good.

On the merch front: lightsabers beat wands every time.

It would have made more sense to show him getting greyer as time went on, since it would then line up with Vader’s face too as they were both dark side users. Didn’t he look worse in AOTC than ROTS? It’s a redundant rebate I suppose.

He totally did.

AOTC

ROTS

I guess they were originally going for him to look more and more corrupted over time.
