I know EVERYONE hates the prequels, but I've been watching a 720p blu copy of ROTS and I think its better than any version I've seen on the net, also TPM again looks pretty damn good. I own a 1080p projector and I'm impressed at least with how the prequels look.

I've never read or heard about this 30th anniv.Empire, after party "meet and greet". I used to be a big Lucas apologist, but if this story is true and even if George is "tired" of being questioned even politely, about his "Product" then that's too god damned bad! Since the very beginning when he got the licenses to sell Star Wars posters and pins,it was all about him being able to finance these movies. I admired that he wanted the ability to make these films HIS way without Hollywood interference, but come on...he and his companies have been churning out toys, trading cards, models, statues, etc, etc. Countless fiction and non fiction books have been published. I personally love reference,"making of" books and they have churned out a Library full of them. I've bought many of them and other products enabling Lucas to develop his "Empire of Dreams". Now to hear him tell true fans in person to "grow up....its only a movie"????? No George,it's not. You've made it a multi generational phenom! I once, not long ago thought he was the creator of a world I loved to visit and explore, but anymore my admiration goes to all the wonderful artists whose blood, sweat and tears went into making the magic.Mr.Lucas is ,in my "geeky" way, only the evil Emperor who's been playing us like a "harp from Hell", not giving a crap about his subjects/fans. Lucas with his frustrated "grow up,these are only movies" moment, has now made me feel like what was once a beautiful relationship, now is just him saying "umm, thanks for the f**k,now F**K OFF!

I guess I was just so excited to hear that my favorite movies(and still are) were finally being released using the pinnacle of HD technology. I was expecting this to surpass or at least equal the work done on The Lord of the Rings movies and its' unbelievable documentaries. I wanted to see my characters from the Empire and the Rebellion duke it out in the highest resolution possible. I watched the last 40 min of Jedi in 720bd last night and I was happy with the image and even after hearing it like 20 times, Vader's "No","Nooo!" did'nt bug me but something just felt not right. Now today...just for comparison I put in Harmy's Despecialized ROTJ,I watched the same 40 min and was blown away how good the image was! All the preservationist's on here are really godsends. They brought back MY return of the jedi, empire strikes back,a new hope in all their "no extra frills, noises, cgi and added dialogue" glory. P.S. Do you have to buy the complete bluray set to get the documentaries? Cause I love those.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but this is where I got my first review of the BD's HD quality and I'm sure most of you have seen it from "the Digital Bits site"...quote"So the next obvious question is, how to the films look in HD based on what we say on Friday morning? The answer is very good indeed. Do they look better than the 2004 DVDs? Absolutely. Do they look better than recent 1080p HD cable and satellite broadcasts? Again, yes - not just for the fixes to problem A/V issues that have been done but also because of the added video and audio data rate afforded by the Blu-ray format, and the fact that each film comes on its own BD-50 disc. And don't forget that Episodes I, II and III should look fantastic simply for having been mastered directly from the digital production files.".
Was this interviewer/writer being true? I have great trust in Harmy,Adywan and many on this site who's opinion is quite different. The interview also goes into the fact of how the fixed the lightsaber dullness's. I can't download the 1080bd's cause they are just too large files. So who's reviews should I acknowledge as being more informative??

Really? You think the pq of the SW bd's are terrible? I'm not dismissing your opinion, but the 720p bds of Empire and Jedi looked good. I'm a big Star Wars fan, always will be and of course I've wanted to see them on BD. I'm getting different opinions on the PQ ,still. I'd love to see 1080p screencaps, still.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone who may have seen the 1080p versions of the new set can tell me their opinion of the pq. I've seen the 720p of Empire and Jedi so far,and it does look good IMO,however I have Harmy's and Adywan's versions and I'm thinking they look very similar. I can't see a side by side of the blu rays/Harmys,Adys versions so I can't tell. Does the extra HD in the blu rays really IMPROVE the look? I am an amateur compared to most on here,so I would love opinions or even better screenshots. Thanks.

I meant no disrespect really when I said "in depth, techical complaints". I freely admit I'm one of G.Lucas' "cool aid" drinkers. There are a lot of added stuff I never was thrilled with...two for ex. " Luke screaming down the Bespin shaft when he jumps off ...which was really just the Emperor's scream from ROTJ,lol...I mean they couldn't even have someone else scream??,,thankfully that was taken out. Also from Empire..all that extra footage of Vader leaving Cloud City and landing on the Executor...to be greeted by, ..Moff Jerjerrod?? WTF? The original and simple "Bring my shuttle" was SOOOO much simplier and menacing. I can go on and on,I'm that upset over this Blu ray fiasco. It's like Michelangelo changing his statue of "David"s penis size...would it make it a better and more impressive statue or simply make one of the most famous pieces of art into an almost pornographic joke?

Thanks,Sluggo. I too could'nt stand the change in "Greedo vs. Han"scene. I'll admit it,I'm a Star Wars superfan and even though I've never dressed up at a convention or wear star wars shirts,hats,etc...I cherish the movies. I read alot of VERY in depth, technical complaints on here and i've shook my head at the anger shown but this is the real first time Ive understood. I also so a youtube clip of "obi wans' krayt dragon yell"......holy sh*t, ...in the name of god what was wrong with the ORIGINAL yell?? Nothing. All I can do is thank my lucky stars for the guys on here who've put their blood, sweat and tears into restoring the originals and now even in HD. I'm a sucker and prob will get the new blu ray set to enjoy the crisp HD picture and for the extras....but in my mind these are NOT my Star Wars movies.

I've usually been a staunch supporter of G.Lucas and most of his additions/changes to the OT,plus his work with the PT. I even would get mad at some of the comments thrown against him by fans.....until this morning. Yes,I had NO news of the added "NO"s" by Vader. Lucas once said that these movies,at least the OT could basically be "silent movies". You could follow the story simply by the visual impact. So why in the name of hell did he have to f**k with one of my most iconic scenes in the OT! One that still put's a chill in me whenever I see it,,...to me it was PERFECT. A man struggling with an inner demon...the dark side of the force. Remain the dark lord or save my son. The simple turning of his head towards his dying son and his Sith Master....and finally ,without a word...he chooses. It was really one of my favorite scenes ever. I am very upset...that a movie that I've know since the first time in the theater has been tainted,,even ruined,by this SOB...I was excited for this bluray set,but now...a die hard fan since 77,has been so disgusted by one simple word..."NO".

This post got way to quiet,so I'm hoping it's because your working on your finished product,Harmy. As far as your comment,TVfrink...I was not saying I'm not looking forward to the blurays. I'm hoping they do them justice and really benefit from what Blu ray tech can do when properlly utilized. I'm saying is I'm realizing the real dedication and hard work these Preservationists do and seeing the results from Harmy,Adywan,etc...I'm so impressed and happy to see the OT back to their old glory.

What Palpatine/Sidious did in the PT was "disguise" his true self and motives from the Jedi, who by the way had their hands pretty full with the Clone wars, even with that in AOTC I believe Yoda felt an uneasiness with the chancellor, and in ROTS before Anakin tells Mace that Palpatine WAS a Sith Lord,Mace said "the dark side of the force surrounds the chancellor." The dark side's power gives different abilities than the light side...ex. Force Lightning and in the case of sith lord Sidious, powerful mind manipulation.

The whole "clouding minds" idea was stupid to begin with.
He could've been able to shield himself from easy detection, or maybe play tricks on people here and there, but that's fucking it....excuse me,but I remember well in the ROTJ novel where the say after the Emperor's death, the Imperial Fleet lost it's cohesiveness and without his extreme will focused on his forces they were routed. I would say that if he had the power to influence his fleet he would be able to cloud the jedi from knowing who he really was.

Hi,again. I wanted to add a few things,if you don't mind? I can put it succinctly...imo and this is just me,but Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy became to me what the PT was supposed to become. Granted it had a wonderful story already out there, but to manage such a large and grand story and put it on screen with so many truelly fleshed out characters brought to life by an array of such talented actors and actresses was a real feat. I really liked and cared for them, even the cgi ones. Peter delivered not only SPFX of epic quality,he made films that when I watch them over again,I don't just skip over to the big battles or action, like I tend to do with the PT...I watch them because I want to follow the characters. I can't say that for the PT. Lucas had alot of advantages, including many great performers, top of the line production people, state of the art FX,etc...and even though alot of the actors from the OT would say comments about the dialogue they spoke I still felt real emotions from them. I mean Liam Neeson,Ewan McGregor,Natalie Portman,Ian MacDiarmid,Christopher Lee,even Hadyn C (who I've seen do some good work)...and the only character who brought real life to me was a CGI called Yoda! and Frank Oz. What an array of talent and they couldn't breathe life into the characters, with exception of Mr.Mcdiarmid who's character gets a chance to really grow. I really loved his nuance and his characters arc. To this day I think his performance in ROTJ was one of the few times that real evil was brought out from an actor. That's why we cheered...yes ,cheered when Anakin/Vader lifted him up and threw him to his death. How often do you hear a cheer from audiences today? To make this long story short,George should have NOT directed, this is an example of Style over Substance...even though this was started about the Lightsaber dueling, which is one of the highlights of the newer films ,I have just one example from ROTS...the opening space battle,a prime example of sometimes Less is More...After 20 yrs I still fill the space battle from ROTJ was sooo much better than the Battle over Coruscant. I couldn't take it all in! there was so much going on I couldn't appreciate it....whereas in ROTJ that battle had an ellegance and awe, that even with all the supercomputers and CGI wizards of today could not replicate.

haljordan28...wow,bud. You have way to much time on your hands! Your disection of the PT and utter hate and contempt of DARTH LUCAS has become,it seems quite an obsession! I'm a fan from '77 to this day,as well. I too wanted much more from the PT. It's a bit sad cause I know a LOT of terrific people worked their asses off to make them. I won't get into specifics about each movie, but in my opinion was doomed to fail no matter what. The expectations from us" OT fan/nutjobs" was too overwhelming. We'd watched and watched the originals,ad nauseum. We wanted, well something else. I too remember the documentary where he said "too many film makers rely to heavily on special effects and not enough on the story, which is what makes the movie great", but look at what he was facing...legions of fans expecting the second coming! All the movies made after ROTJ were FULL of newer and faster SPFX. The new movie goer wanted more and MORE CGI. More intense action, more realistic experiences. Concerning the topic of this discussion "lightsaber fights"I always thought the fights in the OT were less, well acrobatic is because the duels themselves were'nt the major thing going on,it was the duel between the characters themselves that was more important....that's why to this day I feel they are perfect just as they are, whereas the duels in the PT were more about showing the power of the duelists,...Darth Maul was trained specifically to best his opponents...his lightsaber fighting WAS his character. The Jedi at that time were excellent duelists, but they had'nt had to fight another foe like this sithlord before and it was only Maul's overconfidence that killed him.
Skipping to ROTS, well Grievous was trained by Dooku, however he was NOT a Jedi or Sith....even with four lightsabers he could not best a Jedi with the strength of Obi Wan....Sidious was a volcano waiting to erupt! His mastery of the darkside and skill with his weapon was too much for the unsuspecting group of jedi. He utilized his mindpowers as well as his saberskills to jump into the fray and before they knew it dispatched two before they knew what hit them. It did'nt diminish how strong the Jedi masters were, but Sidious's time had come and he was way to strong. Ok,Ok...i'm getting longwinded and anyone with love and devotion for any of these films is great to me....but Lucas isn't the devil, as the song goes,"He tried his best....but his best wasn't good enough"...for some anyway. May the force be with all you guys and gals!
