How the expanded universe ruined the original trilogy.

Oddly enough, Lucas has one of the weakest understandings of what made it connect with people's imaginations in 1977 - if he even understands it at all.  In my opinion, by the way, he does not.

I was watching the extra features on a Star Wars DVD, and I remember George Lucas kept saying "laser sword" instead of "lightsaber."

I think that's because apparently it was supposed to be "laser sword", but Alec Guinness changed it to "lightsaber" cause it sounded more elegant.

Holy crap, never knew that tidbit. I cant imagine a world where one calls a lightsaber a laser word. Thank god for Sir Alec...

To prove a point. Please give me as many reasons and character comparisons as to why Star Wars is better than Star Trek.

I'm pretty sure the slave owning southern elite sending young men fighting to the bloody death to defend their right to hold a human being as property are the bad guys of the American Civil War, and not simply guys with "a different point of view."

The Civil War was not all about slavery. First and foremost it was about states rights and the fact that the states in the north wanted to put an end to the way of life for the south. Simply saying it was all about slavery demeans the whole war.

Does anyone here still like Star Wars?

The Special Editions aren't Star Wars, they are impostors.  The prequels aren't Star Wars either, they are relatives of the impostors trying to tag along for the ride.  As such, hating them doesn't even remotely dampen my enthusiasm for Star Wars, because they are unrelated.

Very much this.

!!

um...so if I did the math correctly, you...weren't here from 1977-1983!?

[tears welling, lower lip quivering] please tell me that was typo.  its inconceivable that you missed the glory years!!

Hey, I wasn't born until 1984 either.  Too young to have seen them in the theatres, unfortunately, but old enough to have watched them at home many times before the SE's came along.  Too young to have seen GL's transgressions for what they really were until I grew up, but old enough to have a strong memory of what was to fall back on once the disillusionment set in.  Both old and young enough to love the real Star Wars for all time.

Born in 1984 as well, and very well put. My thoughts exactly!

Turntables
Time

I recently got into vinyl as well and have a cheap Jensen deal that has speakers on the sides (http://www.amazon.com/Jensen-3-Speed-Stereo-Turntable-Silver/dp/B000UVKE2I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329422229&sr=8-1) It still goes for what I paid for it, right around 45.

Im working on my surround sound in my media room and have a set for 5.1 speakers by Definitive Technology. Still working on the avr (prolly getting onkyo nr709) but I have hooked up two of the sats to the turntable and it sounds amazing compared to the speakers built in, I never knew vinyl sounded that great till then.

How big is everyones vinyl collection? I have maybe 20-30 records, the coolest stuff being Johnny Cash American 3,4,5, and 6 (want 1 and 2 but both are 100 plus) Star Wars original 1977 record (need to find a better one, one I have is pretty scratched) and lastly a double Red vinyl Red Dead Redemption soundtrack to the videogame. Really awesome soundtrack and looks friggin awesome (have two copies, one unopened). Oh I also have Tron Legacy on vinyl too. THAT sounds absolutely AMAZING. Even better than the BluRay.

Also anyone planning to do Record Store Day this year? Its in April I think.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

Best friend and myself are going to see it tonight. Im not really sure why, we both hate the movie, and Im personally not the biggest fan of 3d (although I will say that Hugo has almost changed my mind on it, that movie was phenominal!), but yet we are still going.

We both love Star Wars since our childhood (both of us are late twenties) and we saw all three prequels together, so guess we are trying to keep the streak alive?

Really, why are we going...

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

I think he meant it accounts for the daley trilogy and that he wins the falcon in the han solo trilogy.

been a while since i read han solo trilogy (the non daley one), but its always been my favorite EU work. I have the trilogy in a single hardback copy. I remember it having both in it, pretty sure the part of how he won the falcon had to be before the bit where he is off in the corporate sector. I think it even mentions some bits from that storyline, but nothing major.

I started the first Daley book, didnt really get into it, might need to try and pick it back up.

Spielberg comments on digital alterations to his films

Hell the effects from the OT have aged better than the pt cgi. cgi ages FAST. Every year they come out with more movies with better CGI making older CGI look like shite.

Watched the matrix the other day on cable, caught the scene with the mirror, the one where it goes up Neo's arm and down his throat. Thought it looked like crap. Not nearly as reflective as it should have been, but that was where the tech was at when it came out, and its not that old of a movie...

That sucks that your isp is stringent like that. Im on comcast, never have any issues with them.

Jdownload is ok until for no reason it'll just get stuck on a part of the download, that never happens on a good torrent. I mostly use a private tracker, so never have problems with speed usually.
