STAR WARS in 3-D!

The concept of 3D movies is pretty intriguing to me. There was a 3D computer animated IMAX film released a few years ago that I really enjoyed. The glasses that the audience used were made of high quality plastic and were comfortable to wear. Surprisingly, I didn't suffer any eye strain during the ~60 min movie. It will be interesting to see how well they can convert a film that was originally shot from only one perspective into a 3D image. Maybe they can effectively do this conversion already, but I thought most 3D films are shot with two cameras side by side.

Most of my reply was in reference to the fact that you categorized all three of us as Lucas 'haters'. I haven't visited this board since September/October and after one post, it is assumed I must hate Lucas. I don't know SoloVJones' or Warbler's opinion on this, but I do not 'hate' Lucas. I could only hate someone if they made an intentional, significant negative impact in my life on a personal level. Lucas certainly did not do that. These are just movies after all. The original trilogy was a set of great movies that I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid and I thank Lucas for that entertainment.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there! I never said I hate anybody. Chaltab, Bizzle, and Wajas: you guys need to calm down and not get so defensive. I don't know why everything has to be so polarized.

On this forum, people are categorized into two groups: they either 'HATE' Lucas or they 'LOVE' Lucas. I was just reading a forum talking about Kung Fu Hustle. People there either LOVED it or HATED it. If I go to a digital camera forum, people either say that Compact Flash is the best media option or that Secure Digital is ALWAYS superior. And what interests me is how emotional people get defending the side they choose to be on. But remember guys, things in life aren't so black and white. People can't be stereotypically placed in strictly one group or another.

You guys act like you know Lucas personally. But the truth is, none of us will ever know his true feelings or motivations. We can only make our own opinions based on the interpretations of what we read in the media. One thing that most of us can agree on is that Lucas' style of storytelling and the scope of the target audience has changed between the OT and the PT. The OT is what made Lucas as rich and famous as he is today. One can only wonder what would have happened if he had released these PT movies first, without the established fanbase of the star wars universe.

It's no wonder the prequels are no comparison to the originals. The creator himself has lost all passion for the star wars universe that he created. Pretty sad huh?

Hollywood mogul George Lucas struggled so much with writing the screenplay for final Star Wars installment Episode Iii - Revenge Of The Sith, he had to force himself to stick to a rigid working day as he sought inspiration. The hugely successful movie-maker, 60, took on the persona of a normal office worker as he sat at his desk for nine hours a day, five days a week - and he still only managed to produce five pages everyday. He says, "I am very diligent about writing. I go to work at 8.30am and leave at 6pm. I sit there with that page in front of me but I still can't write it. I do get it done, I actually write five pages a day. But I force myself - otherwise I would probably write a page a day."

It's too bad he couldn't have just sold the rights of the story to somebody who actually cared.

Well, I wasn't planning on buying the dvds anyway because of all the changes. But when I found out that the surround channels are reversed in ANH along with other strange audio clitches and Lucasfilm is claiming it is intentional EVEN THOUGH the soundtrack in other languages is perfect....Grrr. Right now, I wouldn't even accept the dvds as a free gift!!

Confirmation e-mails are not being received

Last week, I told my friends about this site and they gladly signed the petition. Problem is, they have yet to receive the confirmation e-mail so that their names can be added to the list. All of them use Hotmail and have been checking their junk mail folders daily incase it was sent there. Is this a problem anyone else been experiencing? I hope this is not the reason there are 8,000+ unconfirmed signatures.

Well for me, I was really looking forward to the TR47 set. But unfortunately, it appears slightly less stable and more pixelated on my computer monitor than the Dr. Gonzo set. Maybe on the TV, it would look better...? I use WinDVD to watch both of them. I also noticed, in both sets, some vertical bands that disort the brightness. These are especially noticeable in the Dr. Gonzo ROTJ. I suppose this was caused by interference in the cables that transfered the original LD source onto the computer?

When it comes down to it, I prefer the anamorphic set because it provides clean artificial black bars instead of pixelated bars with splotches of dark greys. Like Pagz said, it would be nice if non-anamorphic transfers could have their black bars excised and replaced with clean ones.

Also, if you have both the Gonzo and TR47 sets, take a look at the title scrolls to see if you notice the artifacts in the text of the TR47 version that are absent in the Gonzo version.

I've watched both the Dr Gonzo and TR47 versions on my computer and definitely prefer Dr Gonzo's, even if it is a bit soft. Right from the start of the title crawl, I noticed a bunch of artifacting in the TR47 version that is not present in Dr Gonzo's. If you look at the text, you will notice lots of dots and lines crisscrossing over the letters in the TR47. For some reason the picture quality during the movies seemed more pixelated as well. I also prefer the anamorphic transfer because it doesn't waste valuable space on the black bars...which appear pixelated in the TR47 version. That's not to say the Dr Gonzo transfer is perfect. I noticed some ghosting in certain scenes and slight blurriness that the TR47 transfer does not suffer from.

MeBeJedi, what you're doing sounds fantastic. Are you ever going to make your anamorphic version available?

I was 3 years old when I saw ROTJ in theaters back in 1983. It was the second movie I had ever watched in my life. The first movie I had seen was E.T., the previous year, but my parents tell me that I was too scared to sit all the way though it. With, ROTJ, I was too mesmorized to be scared. Even to this day, I still have vivid memories of how HUGE Jabba the Hutt was on screen and how colorful the lightsabers were during the final battle between Vader and Luke. From then on, I was hooked.

I soon asked my parents to rent the previous two starwars movies and asked for starwars toys for chirstmas and my birthday. I still own the toy Rancor, Jabba the Hutt with pit, Millenium Falcon and the Ewoks village that I got when I was 4 years old. I remember being so shocked when I learned that there weren't going to make any more starwars films. I couldn't understand why they would end something that was so successful and popular. By the time I was 5, they stopped selling starwars toys altogether. I was heartbroken.

I still think to this day, that if they were going to make 6 films, they should have just extended the OT over 6 films instead of just 3. The actors and the chemistry of their characters on screen had so much to offer and endless possibilities in storytelling...and as we've learned from the PT, were irreplaceable.

I've never used IRC before, so I'm having a little trouble getting to the chatroom. I've downloaded mIRC and connected to a server. I tried typing in #originaltrilogy, but then it said I must be connected to a channel. Maybe you can post some basic instructions so those who've never used IRC before know how to find the chatroom.
