First of all, it's a bit of fun. Second, a name helps the project stand out and makes it a little easier to track down profiteers (like folks who sell work done by Rikter and ocpmovie on the Bay).

I was discussing this project with a co-worker at lunch and I think the perfect name was found: Ectoplasmic Residue.

Print is Dead gave me a good chuckle.

Thanks for the replies everyone, especially booah's posting of the missing items (I had to deal with domestic stuff after getting home last night). The Ray Parker, Jr. video is a must as is the complete theatrical trailer, so count on those being in there along with the other stuff.

One other thing, it looks like I'll have to call this release something else. "We're Ready to Believe You" is already included as a tagline on the 1999 special edition release. Any ideas? I thought of maybe "Crossing the Streams" or "Big Twinkie" but was wondering if you guys had any ideas.

I’m almost ready to begin work on this project. It will have all of the features found on Criterion’s CAV disc but omitted from Columbia’s initial special edition DVD. I’ll be running my Pioneer DVL-700 through a Vidicraft II Detailer into my Panasonic DMR-ES30 DVD recorder set on XP mode. Unless something drastic happens, the disc will be ready no later than November 12.

Is there anything else I could possibly put on this disc? I vaguely remember some TV special called “Meet the Ghostbusters” that aired that summer, but I don’t have a copy. Comments and questions about this upcoming release are welcome.

king kong
ghostbusters
monty python: holy grail
close encounters of the third kind
citizen kane
boogie nights

i know its a long list, and i'm not expecting them all to be preserved on dvd. in fact i know most are already on dvd, just not criterion. i just think people are missing out on the great criterion commentaries supplied for these films.

The discs from your list that I have in my possession to be worked on are listed above. My first project is the Ghostbusters companion DVD, containing the Criterion material not included in Columbia's initial DVD release. After that, I'll get to some of the other Criterion laserdiscs, Disney Archive Editions, and other gems not currently found on DVD.

On a semi-related note: Does anyone know where I can get a relatively clean copy of Robotech the Movie? This is the 1986 re-edit/re-dub of the anime Megazone 23, Part 1. Please PM or e-mail me if you know where I can find it. This particular project is for a friend of mine, but I would be willing to share once it's done

I'm still attempting to obtain moderately-priced hardware solutions. I'm looking at a couple of processing amps and hope to have a frame synchronizer (time base corrector) by next week.

Does anyone know of any line doublers or video scalers that will output to RCA composite or S-Video instead of just VGA (or any of its spinoffs)? Or, by chance, is there a cable that goes from VGA to RCA or S-Video? I'm looking at this as an option to solve the deinterlacing problem.

Small update on the Ghostbusters companion disc--

I'm in the process of procuring a processing amplifier and an image detailer/enhancer (for boosting high frequencies) to run between my Pioneer DVL-700 and my Panasonic DMR-ES80 DVD recorder (much easier than capturing with a computer). I don't have access to an almighty X0; therefore, I have to pull out a couple of hardware tricks to put a little oomph into the project's picture quality. The DVL-700 is no slouch, but I want this to be as great as possible.

- one deleted scene on side 1 was not included on the DVD: the Ghostbusters in the stairway before entering their office on campus
- special effects comparisons unique to LD
- Theatrical teaser unique to LD.

I don't have them but if someone has the LD...

I have the Criterion CAV Ghostbusters and am looking into making a companion disc to the existing DVD. I just picked up the Criterion CAV Princess Bride that has Rob Reiner reading William Goldman's book and I'm assuming a different audio commentary than the current MGM disc. Also on tap is the first volume of the Golden Age of Looney Tunes and hopefully Francis Ford Coppola's Heart of Darkness.

By the way, I'm De and I'm new here
