On its way up now. Sending out a few PMs.
Please request PMs here, rather than PMing me, as whomever sees it first who has the link can respond!
I’d love to see it! 😄
Here’s an alt for the end celebration including Coruscant in place of Endor!
Coruscant End Celebration
pw: faneditThe incredible backplate was made by jonh, and I comped in the ships and added a bit of texture.
This is absolutely brilliant and now actually makes sense! I always thought it was odd having two original trilogy planets that had no real significance to the sequel trilogy. At least now we have one planet from each trilogy.
Suggestion - “This is Jacen Syndulla, Stading By”
Is the Ghost in the current set of lines or not?
It was recorded but see Axlanian’s post below about using impressions of existing characters
Okay, finally was able to listen with earphones. I agree, it’s awfully noisy. I truly hate not to include a clip from everyone who submitted something, but maybe it’d be better to actually hear what people are saying… That initial mockup had some chatter and calling in, with some boosted to be audible and others less so, but there wasn’t as much sheer content then. Maybe going back to having fewer clips, selecting those that sound the best and making sure to include the ones from people who have contributed to this project the most regardless.
I think I prefer option A overall, but maybe it’s just because it’s closer to the clip I listened to a bunch to do my initial mockup. I do think that the wookiee roar should be a little earlier, unless intended to represent Chewie himself, since it happens as the Falcon swoops into frame.
I do appreciate you tackling the mixing for this, and hope this isn’t a big setback!
Okay, new test
EDIT: https://vimeo.com/428168141
Moved the wookiee cry forward so it seems more like it’s coming from Chewie, centered the Mon Calimari fleet, lowered the background chatter, and tried to make the “For Skywalker” bit clearer without being shockingly louder than Poe’s dialogue right before it. Let me know what’s still not working, or if anyone has any ideas to improve the mix.
This is fantastic! It sounds so seamless. My only little nitpick, and this is totally a personal thing, is that I’d love to be able to hear Kaz, Yeager, and Jacen and that Zay was a little louder.
I get that. But since we’re trying to improve TRoS, it felt weird to have impressions of specific characters that don’t quite sound like them. If this were an animation or something, I’d bump them all up, but since this is an actual SW film, it feels wrong to have impressions front-and-center. Does that make sense? If we had raw audio of the actual characters, I’d be more than happy to feature those, but since we’re filling this in with fans, I felt this was the right balance.
That being said, this isn’t my project, so if Hal disagrees, I’m happy to change it.

Oh I totally understand and I’m sure most people on this board would agree with you. It’s still incredibly impressive, well done!

Has anyone else had a chance to see Cinematic Captures’ new video? It’s a shame this person isn’t helping out on these edits. Using assets from Battlefront 2 I feel like they could easily product content for either a scene on Coruscant or a celebration on Naboo. I think some people have tried to reach out to them but I’m guessing haven’t had any luck. Check it out! -
Why not cut out 3P0s memory thing altogether. Perhaps Photoshop in the dagger & the Planet its on in Reys book ? Also instead of the book being about the old Jedi order teachings & lessons. Why not simply have it be about powerful force objects / weapons / force training & learning specific moves etc. It never sat right with me that Yoda would want the old ways of the Jedi 2 continue. Wasn’t part of the PT & OT all about Yoda learning the old ways were flawed & problematic ?
I mean, not in their entire. The obsession with their dogma and their connection to the corrupt Republic was the flaw. The core ideas- peacekeeping, empathy, justice, standing against the dark- these are good, and pure, and they were part of the Jedi long before the Republic crumble beneath its own weight.
Plus, it’s easier to know what flaws of the old ways to avoid if you, uh, know what the old ways are. You know what they say- ‘those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it’.
But Yoda already learned the old Jedi ways did not work. Qui-Gon KNEW the old ways didnt work. Yoda & Qui-Gon alone would show up & explain things. This simply is not any other franchise. The old ways would be completely avoided in proper movies that gave a damn about decent story telling
Oh, you mean like Qui-Gon’s ghost showed up to tell Luke or Obi-Wan what to change about their teachings? We all remember that scene in the original trilogy. It was one of my favourites.
Also, original research will always trump a ghost lecturing you in terms of comprehensive knowledge. Jedi are monks, baby. They’re all ABOUT that research. They’re a bunch of hot nerds with laser swords, after all.
In movies THAT GAVE A DAMN ABOUT CONTINUITY yes the Ghosts would show up & guide Luke & help him avoid making the same mistakes & AVOID making more Darth Vaders for the sake of the Galaxy
There’s a Star Wars movie that cares about continuity!? After all these year, how did I miss that one!?
Yeah, no problem. Btw, you’ll probably go a more conservative route with Mustafar, but thought I’d share a mockup I did to extend it and actually further Kylo’s arc beyond a minute long fetch for a holocron. If people could get permission from these guys to actually use the footage in their edits (I haven’t tried), it could be a very useful addition. I’ve made enough test edits at this point trying to fix issues, I should just start a thread and take a crack at doing the whole movie. haha

faneditI feel like if the actual fight was trimmed more (and if Vader’s lines were cobbled together from actual James Earl Jones lines) this would work quite well. The vocal impression really pulls you out of the scene.

faneditThis is absolutely fantastic! Overall I loved it and it really makes me sad that we didn’t get something of this level in the final cut. For the final movie in the Skywalker saga it makes me sad that the only call back to Vader (apart from the mask) was that one line on Exegol.
I do have a few nitpicks. First, the quality of the clips in the flashback are a little… off. I’m guessing this is due to the change in colour to try and get them to match TRoS?
The sound effects during the battle with the cultists either need to be ramped up or cut entirely.
The Star Destroyer that jumps out of hyperspace is a Final Order ship but then the TIEs are First Order flying towards Kylo’s destroyer. Bit confused by this, I’d maybe remove that Destroyer jump.
The fan film fight could probably be trimmed a little. Too much time with it and it’s becomes more obvious that it’s a fan film. I am surprised at how well it works though. Clever idea using the colour change and that clip of Kylo shaking his head chefs kiss
Otherwise though, bravo on some incredible editing!
Yeah, I actually cut almost a minute of the duel already…it’s quite long if you’ve seen the original. But I could see cutting even more of it to make the vision go by faster. The new Vader lines are from Battlefront 2, so obviously a different voice actor. And the destroyer jump is just temp (I know it’s a final order ship). The quality isn’t hi-res…it was mostly just a rough test to see if the concept would work. Appreciate the feedback!
If this is only a rough cut then you’re onto something fantastic! Well done!
Personally the Vader lines work for me. Maybe I’m just used to hearing that voice actor though.

I should be able to cut together a ‘Colossus, reporting in’, or an ‘Ace Squadron, reporting in’ from dialogue from Resistance, since we know they’re there (and can actually see the Aces in a few shots, complete with lovely new ILM-made models), if anybody is interested. I know it’s not folks’ favorite show, but it could be nice to include for some continuity.
Since the novelization (and some of the proposed crawls, along with Visual Dictionary stuff, so frankly, probably earlier drafts of the script and possibly filmed scenes) mention major resistance groups in other parts of the galaxy, cut off from each other by First Order jamming tech, it might be worth coming up with some other continuity-inspired fleet names, outside of ‘Mon Cala fleet’. Maybe ‘Batuu Cell’, the Virgillian Free Alignment, ‘Onderon Fleet’, stuff like that.
It might be fun to include some Legends callouts, too- Iblis Fleet (named after Garm El Iblis, the Legends Rebellion Leader), or just straight-up Katana Fleet.
There’s been dialogue sent in for Kaz and Jaeger so it’d be great to have Doza and the Colossus. There’s also a call sign for the Outrider so it’d be ace to have more Legends easter eggs imo.
Here’s Kylo’s tie replacement on Exogol:
https://vimeo.com/420155526
pw: faneditI went with the shuttle (sorry Chase Adams!) as that’s what Hal had wanted to see. The ship is still a little floaty; the track on that shot is near impossible, so it will need more refinement. I tried three different After Effects trackers and Mocha and still have to do much of it manually because of all that darn lightning and haze!
Amazing. Although I liked the TIE Advance idea, I’m just so happy with it not being a standard TIE!
Now if you could just find a way to fix the fact that Kylo coincidently happens to have two unique Tie Whispers and that the wayfinder was in the first one that crashed on Pasaana 😛
Even when the baby sleeps well, leave it to something like my wife having hiccups to drive me here in the middle of the night.
I was perusing the review thread and saw a good point raised by NeverAr: Kylo shouldn’t have been able to take the TIE fighter from the Death Star II to Exogol, as ANH made clear that they do not have hyperdrives. Given that we see it for all of one shot, standing still, it should be feasible to replace with something else, like an Imperial shuttle or a TIE variant.
Then again, it doesn’t really make sense for Luke’s X-wing to be functional without serious work either. TLJ showed us he used part of a wing for a door. Lol, maybe for the few interior shots of the X-wing, it could be made to look gross and covered in moss.
This has bugged me since I saw it at the cinema. I thought it’d be pretty ace if Kylo arrived on Exegol in a Tie Advanced like Vader’s.
I was experimenting with it last night. I am working with Luke building his lightsaber in a deleted scene of ROTJ, and Rey lifting the lightsaber in the hut from the end of The Last Jedi BTS reel from D23 2017, to create a scene of Rey constructing her lightsaber.
Oh I’m excited to see this! When you say it’s Rey constructing her lightsaber do you mean the Legacy saber or the one from the final scene? I think it would’ve been great if they had actually explained in the movie that Rey learnt to heal by using the force to reforge the blue kyber crystal.
I honestly got the impression that the tear was genuine. Watching the BTS footage, Daisy really put her soul into this movie.
I meant forced in the sense that it seemed like it was difficult for Rey the character to smile. It’s excellent acting, no doubt, I didn’t mean to suggest it was forced in that sense.
Oh no, what I meant was I don’t even think she was acting. I think Daisy was genuinely chocked up that her character inherited the name of Skywalker. Watching the documentary and reading interviews with her, I think she was massively invested in this role.
A more emotional take of “Rey Skywalker”.
https://vimeo.com/418150792I much prefer this delivery. I get why JJ went for a happier/prouder take for his triumphant ending, though. Unfortunately I don’t think cutting from her smiling in the original shot to her mouth open in the BTS shot quite works.
It makes me wonder - why does this crying take even exist? Obviously they probably do a lot of takes to have plenty of material to work with in editing, but it doesn’t fit tonally with the ending we actually got. Why would she just start crying while talking to this old woman? I originally assumed she was supposed to be choked up with joy for her found family, but seeing it again that forced smile and then the tear seem like sadness. Was this scene going to be a more emotional funeral for Ben and Leia or something? I guess we’ll never know.
I honestly got the impression that the tear was genuine. Watching the BTS footage, Daisy really put her soul into this movie.
More options for the final shot!
Falcon Shot - Option A
Falcon Shot - Option B
Falcon Shot - Option C
Falcon Shot - Option D
pw: faneditOption A = original comp with the newer model, now with an adjusted path to smooth it, and sped up the light speed jump.
Option B = snooker’s 2nd pass, now more integrated by adding motion blur, heat distortion, and making the engine glow more blue.
Option C = a recreation of snooker’s original pass, which had the Falcon slowing and making a wider turn to jump. It’s not exactly the same, I made a few small adjustments.
Option D = craziness.
A, without a doubt.
I cannot wait to see this along with Ben’s ghost and the repurposed chess scene. It’s gonna be beautiful.
Last version of Jedi force ghost…

Absolute amazing! I love the ghosts disappearing at the end.
The only thing I’m not sure of is the disembodied voice. I think this is Luke saying ‘reach out’ but I listened twice and it’s not entirely clear. Personally I’d lose this line, otherwise it’s perfect!
Personally I don’t like the idea of name dropping Mustafar in the crawl, it has like a minute of screen time and is done with. The crawl should be setting up things for the movie as a whole. Plus it might be confusing considering it doesn’t look like Mustafar.
The reason Mustafar is a hellish volcanic planet is due to the effects of a powerful artefact. Supposedly able to bring back the dead, the power of the artefact transformed mustafar into how we see it in Revenge of the Sith/Rogue One. Some time before the Battle of Yavin the artefact is destroyed and the planet is then able to heal. This is why it has changed when we see it again 30+ years later.
I think you will definitely be able to achieve this through the maps on Battlefront. You’ll need someone with a high end gaming PC ideally. Why not try reaching out to someone like Cinematic Captures on YouTube and Instagram. I’m sure they’d be interested in collaborating!

Yeahh!! change the direction of the eyes, as you suggested 😃
You’re an absolute legend! Bravo!
Regardless, I think it would be nice to have the sanscrit chants from DOTF play in that scene,
Agree with you on the chants. When I first saw the movie I’d heard that DotF was going to be in there somewhere. As soon as the cultists started chanting I expected to hear the sanskrit in this scene. I think this would work better without the orchestral music though.

when I watched the movie I thought it was a missed opportunity to not have 3po mention Anakin after the memory re-wipe, but I don’t if there was something I missed for him not doing it
I thought this too. It could be great if the dialogue could be changed to something along the lines of
‘Artoo, have you heard? I’m going with Master Anakin on a very important mission’
Just to throw out some potential lines people could say:
“For Leia!”
“We’re with you, Poe/General Dameron!”
“[insert callsign], standing by.”Callsign ideas: Phoenix, Ace, Phantom, Wraith, Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Wolf, Wraith, various planet names (like Naboo Fleet, Bespin, Ryloth, etc.). You could either say Leader or Squadron, or a specific number. Maybe people could think of some clever easter eggs to throw in at this point.
I think the “all wings report in” moment would be great for the reveal shot, as we hear all these people raise their voices in solidarity. Then throughout the battle we could get various lines like, “For Skywalker!” I do think add voices to the battle would definitely help make that incomprehensible number of digital ships feel more like real, living people joining the fight.
PS: Dibs on “Rogue Leader”
I’m not sure if that has been mentioned here but did anyone else see @reylochriso on twitter’s fan edit?
For the fleet scene he asked a few voice over actors to record the dialogue from the audiobook and it worked out brilliantly. Unfortunately he cut Lando’s ‘there are more of us’ line, which I rather like, but other than that it was flawless.
I’d feel bad sharing footage without his permission, does anyone know if he’s on here?
