I’m also a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is a TV series.
These shows are either region locked or given different release dates for different locations, because I just checked my D+ account in Norway and I couldn’t find any of them.
BTW, has anyone looked at The Story of the Faithful Wookiee? I’m curious about which version it is. Is it the “normal version” that’s been on YouTube for a while now or the slightly extended version with the fake alien commercial breaks?

Just made the horrifying discovery that user Octorox has the same Obi-wan avatar picture as me. They were here first. Can the identical Obi-wans co-exist in harmony, or do one of us have to - shudders - change our avatar?
There were some big script rewrites, so they’re certainly not being complacent. Ewan McGregor said he thought the writing was fantastic - I know it’s all publicity stuff, but I feel like if he had any doubt about the scripts being good, he just wouldn’t have said anything about them. Small thing that gives me hope.
A lot of people seem not to like (her? I think?) because they don’t like the idea of a child sidekick to a squad of murderous commandos, which is somewhat understandable. But I wonder how many of those people, if we’d known there was going to be a baby in The Mandalorian before season 1, would’ve complained about a child character in a show about a badass bounty hunter doing badass things.
The ‘outlaw who kills for a living becoming a father figure’ premise is one of the best things about Mando, and with a few shots of Hunter and Omega together in the Bad Batch trailer, they might well be taking the same direction.
I agree that I’m really excited for Andor, and that’s because we’ve got to see some set pictures and concept art. That’s enough to make me hyped! I’m convinced this will make a really great Star Wars story.
I was just thinking earlier today, I think Blade Runner 2049 might be better than the original. Both are two of my favourite sci-fi films so it’s hard to choose.
Maybe this is a hot take? Time will tell.
I really hope there IS a god or something, and all the bad things that happen to me is his/her ‘plan’, so to speak, or some purpose to my life and where it’s going.
But if you’re non-religious (like me), you can also say ‘I make my own purpose’ and get on with that.
Right now my feeling is, make life as enjoyable and as comfortable as you can for yourself and help others to achieve that same goal. Whether that’s activism, charity work, or just being a nice person.

That trailer was great! The plot of Clone force 99 being hunted by Tarkin and the Empire because they’re too much like conventional rebels (a ragtag group with their own principles and methods) is shaping up nicely.
Some people have noticed that Crosshair is absent from the group in quite a few shots - it’s possibly he might choose to stay with the Empire and become an antagonist. I’d like this, it would upset expectations and make the choices of the other members more compelling, in a way. Also, conflict within the main protagonists is usually good to watch.
Taking some time off to finally get my long delayed cataract surgery. Not looking forward to it, but I’d rather endure some short term discomfort than go through life fearing walking into an open manhole cover. It will be nice to see the world clearly again, especially pedestrian crossing lights.

I was thinking it could only be a voice cameo, as The Clone Wars established Qui-gon only appears as a Force ghost on Mortis. Other than that, he’s a classic disembodied voice, and I don’t mind that at all. It would contribute to the sense of Ben’s isolation if his only company is a voice with no body he hears in his head.
As for the overall plot of this show, I’m betting someone (possibly Moses Ingram’s character - she mentioned something about ‘playing with lightsabers’ on her instagram earlier, although it might be nothing it could mean she’s an Imperial Inquisitor) will find out about Luke, and Obi-wan will have to pursue them. That’s the only way he’d leave the planet and potentially come into contact with Vader.
I still have massive reservations about this ‘rematch’ they’re teasing, but I think I’m beginning the period of slow acceptance. I want to be excited for this show, I just need to hear more about what direction it’s taking. It has the potential to make the original trilogy and Obi-wan’s story more compelling, but it also has the potential to fuck everything up.
Lovely to see the actors for Owen and Beru on there! Moses Ingram is billed third, so must be the female lead that was being reported.
I wonder if we’ll get a Liam Neeson cameo which is being kept under wraps.
I’ve always thought Alec Guiness’ performance is the best. He does Obi-wan’s gentle humour so well, but also communicates the past trauma of the Clone Wars and Jedi purge. The scene in Obi-wan’s hut is Guiness’ best - without his acting, the dialogue about past events might have felt like a forced ‘exposition dump’, just an insert of necessary worldbuilding - but instead he made me invested in those events before I’d seen them play out on screen.
His performance reminds me of Mark Hamill’s in TLJ a little, in that both actors were skeptical about the films they were in (Mark thought Luke was being fundamentally misunderstood, Alec thought the premise was cheesy and the dialogue was bad) but both set this aside to deliver deadly serious and compelling performances.
As people were talking about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, I’ll put in a brief review. I thought it was great. Slow and indulgent, sure, but it’s also really atmospheric, the characterisation is miles ahead of the original film (low bar, I know) and it has some genuinely powerful and emotionally compelling moments. Most of all, I could tell it had passion put into it, unlike the very uninspired Justice League of 2017. While Joss Whedon’s version was a ‘corporate product’ film, clearly designed to appeal to as many people as possible, ZSJL has bold creative decisions and everything about it screams ‘fully realised artistic vision’ to me, even if it IS still a blockbuster film.
The actual last movie I saw was Close Encounters, which I was rewatching. Still a masterpiece. The way it handles the mystery of the aliens is nothing short of enchanting, although it’s increasingly clear to me that Roy Neary is a very irresponsible parent.

I’m a big film fan too. I occasionally write screenplays in my spare time and may go into a writing career one day if I become very good at it, but right now I’m mostly interested in film studies and reviews. I play piano, drumkit, and I’m a percussionist in several brass bands. I also like painting whenever I actually get round to doing it. I’m also into railway photography and really enjoy cinema trips, two things I’ll have to get back to after the pandemic.
One of the biggest things that makes me happy is listening to music! I’m a fan of different artists in different genres, like New Order, Bruce Springsteen, Courtney Barnett, Grimes and Philip Glass. Loads of star wars soundtracks thrown into the mix as well, of course.
Damn. I loved Yaphet Kotto in Alien, a really memorable performance. I’m just reading about how Irvin Kershner offered him the role of Lando in TESB, but not wanting to be typecast in ‘sci-fi’ movies, he turned it down… I wonder how differently the character would have turned out?

I saw that it was a story possibility for Maul to kill Kanan, and I’m glad they didn’t do that. Most of Kanan’s best moments with Ezra come in season 3 or 4 I think. It’s been 2 years, so I think it’s ok not to hide this as a spoiler - I think his actual death was perfect and far more impactful than it could have been otherwise. We see the rest of the Ghost crew struggling to move on without Kanan, and that’s touching to see, but if that went on for two whole seasons I think it would really have dragged the show down.

Yep, that works! Thanks. It’s a pity you couldn’t make his eyes fully red, but this is a great indication of what Mikkelsen’s live action Thrawn would look like. Personally, I think maybe a small chin prosthetic to make it sharper (as long as it’s not uncomfortable for Lars) and he’s there.
I’d prefer animation for a Rebels sequel - I think it’s more faithful to the original show, and you can do much more ambitious projects that way. But if they’re going the live action route, Lars Mikkelsen is the man to bring Thrawn to the big screen.

Sorry if this is a little late, but I love that this is being commemorated. Here’s my contribution:
We may be seeing Thrawn in an upcoming series so I’ve done a little bit of fan-casting here. For those who don’t know, this is Lars Mikkelsen, the voice actor for Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels. I certainly couldn’t imagine any other voice for Thrawn so Lars gets my vote. I only made changes that would be possible with practical makeup so as to be accurate. I didn’t remove his beard because any attempts I made made him look plasticky, but I think that he would look incredible for thrawn sans-beard I think he is perfect for the role. He fits the Star Wars casting bill as being not too recognizable too; there aren’t really any characters that people have him associated with so they would only see him as Thrawn.

I’m usually annoyed when people pretend their opinions are objectively correct. That said, Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn is the objectively correct choice. When people fancast actors like Benedict Cumberbatch or Jason Isaacs, they say things like “_________ could make a great Thrawn”. Meanwhile, Lars is ALREADY a great Thrawn! I can’t read any line of Thrawn’s dialogue in the books without hearing it in that voice, and I can’t imagine a portrayal of Thrawn without it.
I thought the series finale was a little rushed, up until the final 10 minutes - which may be my favourite 10 minutes in the MCU. Unfortunately Pietro and Hayward were dealt with a little too quickly and easily in my opinion, but I have far more positive things to say about the episode than negative things.
Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Hahn deserve all the love for their brilliant acting, and Christophe Beck deserves all the love for his beautiful music throughout the series. The ending of the show was so touching, and I like how when the hex has vanished, Wanda is standing in the same spot where she started it, and in the same clothes. It’s as if the whole thing was a dream.
The big complaints I see about the finale are from comic book fans disappointed that there was no multiverse and no Mephisto, in the end. With the amount of teases, mystery boxes and red herrings in the show, I don’t blame them. But - from the perspective of someone who’s never actually read the comics - I appreciated that this was first and foremost Wanda’s story, and it never got sidetracked from that.
Three years ago today, the Star Wars: Rebels series finale ‘Family Reunion - and Farewell’ aired!
As a result, today is ‘Rebels Remembered’ day. I can’t tell you how good it is to see so many people coming together to appreciate this lovely show. It’s a very compelling story of a family unit being forged in a time of desperation, and although it’s primarily about the formation of the Rebellion, it has many great additions to Star Wars mythology and the Force also. It has some truly fantastic characters, one of the best romantic couples in Star Wars, and one of the best master-apprentice relationships in Star Wars. And despite what some say about the animation, I love how it brings McQuarrie’s art-style and some of his unused concepts to the screen - and I personally think it looks great too.
