“Monsters, Inc.” - Original Theatrical Presentation (HELP NEEDED)

So the end credit outakes are in none of the home versions?

Charles Threepio said:

Actually, they are in some home versions. Even the 3D Blu-ray, unless I’m mistaken, has them as a special feature, because I know a true 3D version is floating around on the web somewhere, having seen it for myself.

Most of this is correct. The DVD & 3D version have the outtakes. The 3D outtakes, however, are part of a separate bonus feature (instead of being part of the main feature, like the 3D re-release prints) as the credits there utilize the same credits seen on D+. The original DVD is the only way to get the original outtakes with the credits. Yet even then, the DVD credits are slightly edited to remove any Technicolor or PixarVision credits. You can also find them on specific Latin American tv airings, as several low quality videos have surfaced online providing footage of the credits, which will give you a good example as to how the DVD credits are edited. Here’s one example, with a kid annoyingly humming and clapping to the song playing: https://youtu.be/DGVK-hGUWqY

You guys seem to be interested in the “snow cones” censorship part of the forum. Well, here is a comparison of both the 3D blu-ray & the 2009 blu-ray:

As you can clearly see, the censored version (right) loses the detail of the snow cones as seen on the uncensored version (left).

“Monsters, Inc.” - Original Theatrical Presentation (HELP NEEDED)
Time

Hello guys. Been a while since I’ve been on this site, but now I’m gonna start a project that I will actually complete this time…

“Monsters, Inc.” - Original Theatrical Presentation is a project that attempts recreating the original theatrical version of the 2001 Pixar comedy, “Monsters, Inc.”. The project will recreate the following:

Original Theatrical Trailer Reel - The trailers that originally proceeded the film theatrically, as proven by older forms from Film-Tech. The trailers include:

  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
  • Ice Age
  • ET 20th Anniversary
  • The Rookie
  • Snow Dogs
  • Stuart Little 2
  • Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
  • Return to Neverland (attached)
  • Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (attached)

The trailers that aren’t labeled with “(attached)” will be optional trailers when the final product arrives.

For the Birds - The short that proceeded the feature will also be involved in the project. As evident by an old bootleg recording of the film, the credits of the Short were shortened for time. As such, the short’s credits will be altered for this project.

The Feature Film - The film will run at 24fps and will be available in 1080p. A 4K version will be made if I ever decide on doing it. For planned audio tracks, scroll further down on the page. In the film, there is a scene that is censored. The scene in general is the snow-cone scene, where the snow cones don’t have the snowy texture to them in most versions of the film. The only releases that uncensor this include the old DVD, and the 3D version of the film: the 3D version will be the source used for the scenes where the cones are visible. For the film itself, the original BD release will be used.

Versions - Two versions of the film will be available. One version features the outtakes at the end, while the other version doesn’t. I have already done a test of the outtake credits, so if you want to see that, PM me. The versions will also contain the optional trailers mentioned above.

Audio - The standard audio source for the film will be the English DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track from the BD. The trailers will be presented in 2.0 if a 5.1 track isn’t available. The 5.1 track will be altered for the “outtake” edit of the film.

Outtake Credits - The version of the feature film that includes the outtakes during the credits is a very strange case in terms of finding a 1080p version. It has appeared on several international TV broadcasts (like Star Movies HD in Chinese & Disney Junior Latin America), but no 1080p version is fully accessible publicly on any physical media. If you have a rip of these outtakes, please PM me! It’s definitely needed for the project.

This project will be a big one, hoping that this actually ends up working in the end!

SOURCES:

  • Monsters, Inc. - Blu-ray from 2009 (Feature & Short Film)
  • YouTube & Various DVD releases (Trailers)
  • Any international TV airing of the film that utilizes the outtake credits.

Jingle All the Way (1996) - Restored & Regraded [Theatrical & Director's Cut] (Released)
Time

I would like a copy of both copies please. This film has meant a lot to me and I can’t believe that D+ removed this for the shitty sequel. As for the color-grading job, I really like the improvements on the video, and I can personally say that it looks close to its theatrical presentation than the other versions.

“Disney’s Mickey Mouse Works” Theatrical Short Film Edits (HELP NEEDED!)
Time

In 1998, Mickey Mouse Works was a project that Walt Disney Television really wanted to get everyone’s attention on at the time. A marketing move that Disney made for it, was to release four already completed shorts in theaters to try and get the show’s attention and audience before it released in May 1999. The cartoons included:

  • Goofy’s Extreme Sports: Skating the Half Pipe (I’ll Be Home for Christmas)
  • Goofy’s Extreme Sports: Paracycling (Mighty Joe Young)
  • Pluto Gets the Paper: Spaceship (My Favorite Martian)
  • Donald’s Dynamite: Opera Box (Doug’s 1st Movie)

As of 2021, the original theatrical edits are not available online. As such, we need your help & info on what the original edits were like back then! If you’ve seen the four movies highlighted in bold text theatrically, and remember the shorts being played beforehand, please put out your available info on what edits they might’ve put, and maybe if it had a special intro. IDK. It’s a very confusing loophole of a project that I’m doing. Hoping I can create edits of the theatrically edited shorts online on OT eventually, but we’ll just have to wait & see…

UPDATE: One of the shorts, “Paracycling”, has recently resurfaced online through a bootleg recording of “Mighty Joe Young”. This is the only one that has surfaced, as of 06-08-2022.

T2: DVD Easter Eggs Complication (a WIP)
Time

There have been loads of Easter Eggs on the Terminator 2 DVDs. However, no one hasn’t really known about them, or seen them that much. With that being said, a complication of every Easter Egg on all T2 DVDs would be helpful, would it? Final product will be on YouTube, rather than a PM on OT, unlike my other projects.

2000 ULTIMATE DVD

  • Insert Side A, with the feature presentation. Then from the menu, select “Special Edition”. On the right hand side of the panel you will notice some weird, unreadable symbols that will give you access to the hidden feature - known as roman numbers. Take your remote control and press the key combination “82997” - the date of Judgment Day in the movie - and the symbols on the side should change to the text “The Future Is Not Set”. If they don’t, please make sure to press the “Enter” key on your remote control after every one of the digits. Once correctly entered, the eyes of the endoskeleton will light up and you will see a new menu entry appearing, giving you access to the “Extended Special Edition” Version of the movie with the alternate ending and other scenes integrated in the film.

  • Insert Side B. Don’t touch any buttons, and every 30 seconds, the Disc cycles through one of three different ‘breaks’ - in the first the lower left hand corner flickers with lightning and the words “Join The Resistance” appear. Select it and you will find a Weblink that takes you to Artisan’s Website (at the time, www.artisanent.com). The second break is a small head of Beethoven, which will take you to the original T2 Swelltone Trailer. And the third break comes in the shape of the T-1000. His head will morph out of the center of the screen and say “Get Out.”

2003 EXTREME DVD

On Disc 1:

  • While on the Main Menu, highlight “Sensory Control” and press right five times. The words “The Future Is Not Set” will appear. Selecting them will allow you to view the original Theatrical Cut.
  • While on the Main Menu, if you wait around and do nothing for 2 minutes, a T-800 will appear (from the right) and look you right in the face for a few seconds. Apparently, moving to another option might trigger this.

On Disc 2:

  • While on the Main Menu, move to the DVD-ROM option and press left to highlight the ‘square’. Select it to see a 2 minute montage of the film and scenes from the “Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Ultimate Edition DVD”.
  • Just like Disc 1, wait and do nothing, and a T-800 will appear (this time from the left) and look you right in the face for a few seconds.
  • While on the Main Menu, move to the “High Definition” option and press “Up” to reveal a half-circle. Select it to see the “DVD Production Credits” for this Extreme Edition.
  • Now select “DVD-ROM”. After the Trailer has played, you will be on the menu for this feature. Move to the “Replay ROM Trailer” option and press “Up” to highlight the blood. Select it to see a funny still that shows the worst that can happen.

INTERNATIONAL RELEASES

  • Studio Canal 2003 R2, Bitwin 2000 R3, Dreamworks/Universal 2000 R4, and Momentum Pictures 2000 R2 Discs has the 82997 easter egg from “2000 ULTIMATE”, but instead of an “Extended Special Edition” cut, it leads to an alternate menu leading to two alternate scenes from the “2000 ULTIMATE” cut.
  • Kinowelt 2000 R2 includes a German Dubbed Teaser Trailer of the film on both Steel and Ultimate editions.
  • Geneon 2003 R2 includes the T-800 looking at you if you do nothing again on discs 1 and 2.

HELP NEEDED: The 2007 Disney Digital 3D Logo ["The Ultimate 3-Dimensional Movie Experience"]
Time

The Disney Digital 3D logo has a mysterious history behind it. In a trailer for Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons”, a DD3D logo appears at the end. The logo has a subtitle of: “THE ULTIMATE 3-DIMENSIONAL EXPERIENCE” underneath the logo. This appears on some selected Disney DVDs, such as “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “Air Buddies”, as this is normally used in tandem with the regular trailer, seen on the “Cars” DVD. However, this logo appeared again in 2011, for it’s Blu-ray debut. But the “ULTIMATE” subtitle has been replaced however, with a “POWERED BY BLU-RAY DISC” subtitle with the Blu-Ray logo. This was the first time it made it’s debut in the home market (and outside of theatrical use) and they decided to replace the “ULTIMATE” subtitle? Damn it, Disney! The only thing I can do is to Re-Create the logo using sources and information. Does anyone have info and/or thoughts on what the logo originally looked like when you saw the logo theatrically?

I would be happy to help. Does your project require color correcting? I am really good at that.

Yes, this needs color correcting for some of them. Wings, Broadway, Cimarron OG, Cimarron DOLBY, Grand, Simpsons, and Broadway 2000 all need color correcting, and stability, as they weren’t remastered and come from the 35mm sources. Work that is needed for those in editorial are 35mm Stability, upscaling to 4K, and Color correcting.
Tex, Stampede (Tex 2), Cavalcade, and Shrek were all made into digital sources during the Lucasfilm era, so the only work needed for those are the LucasFilm bylines (especially “Shrek”) and in Tex 2’s case (the 2005 scope render), The Audience is Listening slogan at the end. I will give you highest quality sources asap, if you want.

Sure! I would love to get them.
I can start work on 18th (when my new drive arives.)

Okay then. The sources will be sent soon. Thanks for your help!

All Classic Lucasfilm THX Trailers (1983-2001) Remastered [WIP, 1/10 complete]
Time

I’m a big fan of THX. THX has always meant something to me, especially in it’s trailer promos. This is my project on a big demo project i’m working on, dubbed the “THX Collector’s Demo” as a working title. This is Part 1, where I recreate the trailers from the Lucasfilm era (1983-2002). The trailers that will be available will be as followed:

  • Wings (May 1983)
  • Broadway (Fall 1983) Now Available
  • Cimarron ORIGINAL (May 1988)
  • Cimarron Dolby (1990)
  • Grand (June 1993)
  • Simpsons (Summer 1994)
  • Tex (July 1996)
  • Stampede (November 1997)
  • Broadway 2000 (May 1999)
  • Cavalcade (June 2001)
  • Shrek ORIGINAL (November 2001)

Selected trailers will be available as soon as they are finished, but work needs to be done first. When it’s available, please ask via chat so I can send the trailer(s) you wanted privately.

Credit goes to “That guy with no name” for working on Color Correcting for these trailers!

Man, this is amazing! I’d love to see a 35mm scan of the entire film. That would be incredible! Hopefully someone does a scan someday.

YES! I’d also love to see a 35mm Scan of the film, but i haven’t seen any 35mm Prints of Toy Story go up on eBay yet.

The 2021 Theatrical El Capitan Theatre Re-Releases Re-creation Project (a Work In Progress)
Time

I recently got back from the screening. It was pretty fun, and we still need to get to work.

I have updated the sources since now I definitely know what previews would show up before the features.

It opened with the famous curtain show that they’d always put before the previews (this one’s the updated version with “Hall of Heroes” playing, rather than “The Boy who could Fly” one that was previously used.)

Then there was a Disney+ advertisement, predictable enough due to how it was mentioned almost everywhere you can go. (they even gave me Disney+ themed Mickey ears when I walked out of the building, and I’ll be keeping that hat)

Then the Cruella Trailer, which is first due to it being the first Disney film to release in the trailer reel.

Then interestingly, an edit of an already existing Jungle Cruise Trailer. This version hasn’t released online yet, but it has been uploaded using it’s previous release date.

Then after that, the Marvel trailer. It’s not the Black Widow one however, but the “Celebrating The Movies” one that came out on YouTube not long ago. Surprising, that they would use this rather than the Black Widow trailer.

After all of that, the format changed into the 1:85:1 format for Toy Story, and bam! The film played in it’s entirety, with Dolby Atmos audio. Since this was the same version used for another re-release that I have seen in November 2020, vocals and SFX have been remixed for the Dolby Atmos Track. When remixing the 5.1 for the 10.1 Dolby Track, they had to recreate audio from the feature in order to properly mix it. This caused some out of sync vocals and music. I’ve recorded the entire theatre audio (with all of the trailers before it), for evidence that the sound and vocals were moved and that maybe the Dolby Atmos track on the Blu-Ray could be different.

After the feature, the curtains began to close silently 3 seconds before the Pixar logo ended. Really fun experience, and if you wanna go experience Disney’s fancy theater, go buy a ticket! They got Cruella coming up on the opening night of May 27th.

I’ll see you guys later for updates on the projects!

The 2021 Theatrical El Capitan Theatre Re-Releases Re-creation Project (a Work In Progress)
Time

This year on May 5th, 2021, Disney’s El Capitan Theatre had received release prints of:
the 1989 kickoff for the renaissance era, “The Little Mermaid”,
the 1995 CGI Animated flick, “Toy Story”,
and the 2002 masterpiece in my opinion, “Lilo & Stitch.”
Since these are happening, I’m obviously thinking about re-creating those release titles that were presented in the theatre. I am indefinitely gonna do that project.

Sources I need to find and use include:

  • The Little Mermaid 2019 Blu-Ray (for the 1st Re-released feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • The Little Mermaid 2019 4K Blu-Ray (for the 1st Dolby Atmos track)
  • Toy Story Blu-ray (for the feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • Toy Story 4K Blu-ray (for the 2nd Dolby Atmos track)
  • Lilo & Stitch Blu-Ray (for feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • Lilo & Stitch 4K Blu-Ray (needs to exist in order for a Dolby Atmos track to be used)
  • Disney Infinity 3.0? (for Hall of Heroes song for curtain intro)
  • Disney+ Advertisement
  • Cruella (Preview #1)
  • Jungle Cruise (Preview #2)
  • Marvel Studios Celebrates the Movies (Preview #3)

Note that there may be more re-releases in the future, and if there are: i’m doing them if there are footage of the previews. Also note that as there are also re-releases of Star Wars Episodes 4, 5, and 6, Captain America Civil War, and Raya and the Last Dragon, i’m not doing private screening releases.

If anyone has sources for me to use, please send it to me via private topic. This recreation will hopefully be done by the one year anniversary of The Little Mermaid print (May 5th, 2022) , or by the one year anniversary of another release re-creation i’m doing https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Toy-Story-2020-Theatrical-5-Fan-Favorites-Re-Release-Recreation-a-Work-In-Progress/id/85121 (November 5th, 2021), if not earlier than those two dates. Toy Story 2020 Theatrical "$5 Fan Favorites" Re-Release Recreation (a Work In Progress)
Time

Hello. Today, I found out that Disney’s “El Capitan Theater” had apparently announced that Pixar’s “Toy Story” will be shown from May 10th to May 16th, as part of their reopening event. I’ll hopefully attend one of the screenings and if I do, I’ll make it an additional recreation that will be released alongside the 2020 print once it is finished. For the previews, it’ll be mostly “Cruella” and “Black Widow”, since those two films are the ones they are trying to promote their theatrical release right now, so it’ll be easy to find sources for those two. If there’s a Dolby Atmos bumper before it, i will record the audio for it (heck, why not record the audio for the whole movie??) as a source for finding the promo. The feature, of course will obviously be the same as the 2020 feature. Again, if anyone has resources for the Toy Story feature, let me know in this post and I’ll private chat you in order for me to download it. Thanks for reading my latest post update.
