<em>Kenobi: Trials Of The Master</em> - Fanedit by PixelJoker95

This seems like straight out of Lucasfilm if they put in the proper effort in the effects. Amazing!

Since PixelJoker was participating in the Kenobi Redux thread I really hope that he is incorporating the great idea from Phase3/Broom kid of Vader getting his helmet sliced by Obi before he buries Obi with the rocks.

It would fix the stupid ending of Obi-Wan just walking away from the fight and letting Vader live. This would explain why Obi is not so uneasy in the end scenes because Vader assumes he is now dead. His effects skills would really be needed here to replace the intact helmet with the broken one for those fight ending shots.

Maybe he wants to keep the ending details under wraps until release, but just wanted to remind about the idea. Fingers crossed…

I feel like the ending of the Kenobi/Vader duel is something that a lot of people didn’t get at the time but, like the prequels, will be re-evaluated in years to come. Obi-Wan still not being able to bring himself to kill Anakin says so much about the conflict and internal turmoil that he did his best to hide going into ANH. Vader screaming at Obi-Wan to come back and finish the job is also an incredible moment that speaks on his borderline-suicidal post-ROTS character. You lose all that when it’s just Vader walking away because he thinks he killed Obi-Wan.

It always struck me as a bit odd how the window explodes and the shot just lingers on that while epic fast paced music plays with not much happening. The extended duel clips are way out of order in this edit and there’s some glaring continuity issues introduced as a result (no offense to Bobson), but if you slot them to go right after the window explosion and lead into the big panning shot, they’re a perfect fit. Hence, I’m pretty sure that’s actually where the shots were originally going to be, but at the last minute they decided that it would be better to reintroduce the duel with the panning shot and let the Padme stuff go a bit longer since there’s nothing else to fill that section of the music.

bobson dugnutt’s Phantom Menace - Expanded Edition HD Fight clips re-ordered/framed to their 2001 Deleted Scenes Documentary presentation + Schorman’s HDTV v2.5 + ifjg’s editing suggestion + audio from the 1999 Royal Premiere video + Ultimate Edition OST.

If the pan up shot that opens the sequence in the final film is replaced outright, it works pretty well. Panaka’s head turn to the cut, and the Jedi landing to Qui Gon swinging feel right.

I was talking more like cutting right when the window breaks. If you do that, you can still keep most of the panning shot. But your way of doing it does have its advantages. It’s cool how the chorus comes in for when they do the jump, and I like how it flows cutting straight from the landing to the Qui-Gon swing.

There is a little bit of clean official audio for the extended Maul Duel.

I heard an unsubstantiated rumor from one person that this footage was in the UK Theatrical cut. I don’t believe it, but these shots clearly existed in 1999, before they were included on the 2001 DVD special features, unlike other scenes which were completed for that DVD.

The film premiered on July 14 in the UK, two months after the May 19 US premiere, so maybe these shots were completed in that gap? Have these shots appeared in any other promotional material?

Has anyone heard any proof of a longer UK Theatrical version?

Great find. No idea about the UK theatrical version, but I’m pretty sure those clips were last minute cuts. Pay attention to this part.

Here’s the best I can get the Poe lines to sound. It’d be nice to lipsync the line “His followers have been hiding something for years,” but with what’s available now this is what I can do. I don’t think it’s half bad and I doubt anyone would have batted an eye in the theater.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MsJjLxDxVwrjR8KjZNzToTiKnMRxtFVX/view?usp=share_link

Also, I can’t really remove Finn’s line about Endor being “where the last war ended” because it makes the switch in focus of the scene happen very quickly, even for TROS standards.

ALSO, I am going to use yellow lightning for the primary version of Ascendant just like the ‘Rey Nobody’ version, as I very much like how it recontextualizes her yellow saber as an integration of what she feared. BUT, I will continue to honor the poll which showed people favoring using Vader’s TIE rather than the shuttle.

I feel like the technical aspects are really executed and, not having watched the movie a whole lot since it stopped being shown on theaters, I do indeed not notice anything off. I also kind of feel like more could be done with this line, though, since his followers hiding something is already implied in the rest of the movie. Why not make it more explicit how he survived, like mentioning essence transfer or whatever the current canon explanation is? Or at least something about him having a backup plan before Vader betrayed him.

The intro has clones of him and Palpy mentioning to Kylo he can transfer his consciousness. I think most fans of the series would be able to put two and two together.

The rest of Poe’s dialog is kinda important. We also had to consider lip sync. I think the only one that could be replaced is “He’s been planning his revenge”. Maybe he could say “He was prepared for his death”. Anything more complicated than that orindary people in the SW universe wouldn’t have any knowledge of. Heck, Merry is supposed to be a Sith lore expert and the best he can give us is “Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew”.

“He was prepared for his death” works for me. Fleshes out things out just a little better without feeling like they know more than they should.

I’m fairly happy with it now. It will never be perfect, but it’s a big value add to the plot and I think solves the final logic issue of Restructured.

With that, I’m about ready to render Starlight V 1.1! If anyone has any final comments about the workprint, do let me know soon, otherwise you will need to wait until V2 😉

The sync looks really good, but the change in tempo when “he worked on the base” starts is noticeable. Maybe adjust the speed just a little to match?

I’m pretty sure them using Shaw when for unmasked Vader is because he was a seasoned actor who turned in an amazing performance. Prowse was a body actor. Look at his filmography on Wikipedia. I’m not really sure why he was so upset or what he was expecting. Playing tall imposing monsters was basically his thing.
Not saying that in a derogatory way at all. The body acting for Vader by Prowse is masterful. But that’s what Prowse was.

I not a huge fan of the prequals, but coming to accept them more since kenobi tie-ins and Hall9000 edits. I actually like this idea for the vader un-masking. and I never thought I would say that (also nice to see it released in HD or scaled). needs some sharpening on the eyes and maybe some fix on the skin under the eyes (compositing), but I like the effort here…still not sure hot it should end with the ghost and was going to go shaw in my extended version, which still might work since he doesn’t speak. I think shaws acting is good and that would still remain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbrzXdiuxi4

That actually looks a lot better than I expected. Still needs a lot of work obviously, but it works as a proof-of-concept. For the ghost part, I’ve been thinking for a while that it could be interesting to go all-in on the PT tie-ins by deep faking Yoda and Obi-Wan back to their ROTS versions as well. Maybe even throw in Qui-Gon to really cement the old gang being back together, since him having a force ghost form is apparently canon now.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Nice to see I’m not the only one who thinks 2011>2020 BD’s. I echo the sentiment on the newer transfers having way too much DNR. I am also surprised by not using 4K77 or 4K83 as a source, though. 4K83, especially, is a pristine print with several excellent color grades available, and I don’t think it’s hard to find spots where it blows away the official releases.

Using an AI trained by Jar Jar’s lines to replace his dialogue seems a lot more respectable to Ahmed Best’s performance compared to throwing out his voice entirely. I don’t see much of an ethical issue here beyond just what comes standard with taking someone else’s work and recutting it to suit your taste. This also seems great for making edits that would stand up fine alongside canon media or others’ edits, since it can indeed be jarring going from a redubbed Jar Jar to the official voice.

Would it be worth the trouble to try and make them be at Palp’s secret hideout from AOTC that he meets Dooku at?

The secret hideout is probably the way to go for that scene and would give some nice continuity. The cityscape looks cool but it doesn’t really make sense for them to be having this secret meeting out in the open like that.

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)

Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of the Cloud City windows in either the SE or Adywan’s edit. The lighting doesn’t match the actors at all and it becomes one of those “can’t unsee” things when you start to notice it. Worst example is when Leia, Chewie, and Lando are making their escape. Would actually prefer OOT footage if that can’t get fixed up.
