Idea: a Battle Royale edit?

Having a few copies of this on dvd, I'd say your best bet is the R3 Korean special edition set. The video is clean, the english subs are great, and it's a nice 2 disk package.

The problem is, the new scenes from the DC have worse subs than the rest of the movies. Some other companie translated them, and whoever did this, he didn't do a good job.
But to be hones, there is no better version than the korean.

3) Are there also other "special editions" on the 2DVD sets, or are movies 3,4,5,7,9,10 the theatrical versions ? Because I didn't note any changes.

I seem to remember reading that there was a line of dialouge not present on the First Contact DVD that was heard in the theatre, the line was from Kelsey Grammer as Captain Bateson of the USS Bozeman responding to Picard's order of attack, this was widely regarded as not being true until the line turned up in the HD version.

USS Bozeman was that Soyuz class starship from the Deja Vu episode, wasn't it? I don't remember seeing such an old ship in the movie...

EDIT
Oh wait, it was the ship that flew across the screen after the Borh ship exploded, right?

I do have a theatrical version of ST:TMP, but it was sourced from a VHS and is P&S...

Info: Superman II Donner, and III & IV extended edits
Time
I don't want to argue how someone should do the "definitive" Superman II cut, but the idea of combining Superman 3+4 has a big flaw, the big plotholes in part 4! Okay, with the deleted scenes you probably can repair the damage on Superman 4, but the state those scenes are in...
Okay, most of us probably can ignore the damage to the print (probably even repair some of the damages) but the SFX scenes are mostly incomplete. To finish those, we would require the seperate scenes, not the composited ones. I don't see a solution for that. After all, we would end with a broken Superman 3 fanedit.

I have no idea if that makes it better or not. The LD is also uncut.

Does the LD contain the opium smoking scene?

Idea: Monty Python's Life of Brian Ultimate DVD request....

That would probably be better. Also one could add the original mix from the criterion disc, and pitch correct it after matching it to the UK set.

Are you sure, that the UK disc has a better picture? I took a look at dvdbeaver, and it seems that they're equal in sharpness, the only difference is the colour tone.
Terry Jones supervised the transfer with Maria Palazzola, so we can assume that the criterion disc has the intended colour scheme...

I found out something really interesting about TMPGEnc ... it will read .avs scripts so you don't have to do the extra step of converting to AVI first.

I thought this was common knowledge... otherwise I would've told you years ago.

Well, AVISynth is a frameserver, so in theory, you can use an AVS file with every program that can read AVI.

Kill Bill - The Whole Bloody Affair - QtheGaijin Fan Edit (Released)
Time
When I watched the original two movie some time ago, I thought thiese are the best of Tarantinos movies, he has mastered his use in music and framing. The other thing I've notices is, despite those two are supposed to be one big movie chopped in two chunks, those movies are very different in style and pacing.
You see, Kill Bill Vol. 1 basicly is a homage to japanese revenge movies, especially modern ones (the almost comic-style use of colours, or the stylized fight scene almost directly taken from "Twillight Samurai") and some influences of classic japanese movies like "Lady Snowblood" and "Godzilla". The movie is very fast paced for a Tarantino movie, with a high level of violence (even for a Tarantino movie ).
Kill Bill Vol. 2 however, is entirely different. Although it continues the story, the style is not compareable to the first one. Vol. 2 is based more on chinese kung fu films (for example old Shaw Brothers flicks), but also has a high influence from westerns and even horror flicks (the grave scene for example reminds me of certain Fulci movies . Also the pacing is much slower.

These facts let me to be believe that - even if Tarantino once intended it to be one very long movie - it is now two movies, that do not fit together - at least not in their current state. They are too different.
I believe, if Tarantino would do a complete version of this movie one day - which I doubt - he'll do much more than just put them together. Knowing his previous work, I'd rather think that he would completely redit this movie, not just cut here and there, and extend here and there, maybe even change the order of the chapters. We all know how his movies work, you are totally confused until Tarantino explains it to us (this is the main reason I would never watch a Tarantino movie in chronological order, it would lose it's dynamic).

That all said, I still was interested in "The Whole Bloody" affair. And I was very surprised how good Gaijins work is. As I told earlier, there are great differences in pacing between the two movies. Gaijin took great care of that, by editing in some of the deleted scenes - the "Bill kicks ass" scene really enhances Part 2 - although I think it was correct to lift it from the two part version - and lifting some other scenes. The movie really feels more complete now, and you can't really tell where Gaijin edited the movie (except of course the Bill scene ), and that is what a fanedit is really what a fanedit is all about. The only thing that really gives it away is the break in style after the first half.
Gaijin's work is fun and never boring throughout the four hours lenght and I really enjoyed it. Although I have to admit, that this is probably not what Tarantino has originally inteded
But in the end, I still prefer the movie as two independent parts, due to the break in style.

Thank you very much for four hours of fun, Gaijin.

Oh, by the way, I changed my mind about Kill Bill some time ago. For me, Jackie Brown is definetely the best of Tarantinos movies (not that anything is wrong with KB)

They also applied some additional filtering which resulted in ghosting.
By the way, Bey Logan does not work for HKL anymore

I personally don't mind the Rapidshare idea, although it only takes one file to go down for the whole chain to break.

Other options I guess would be megashare or usenet?

Bravo to Boon23 for 'thinking outside the box' for ways to distribute CBB's edits.

I don't like it either. It's a real drag to download 1 part of 15 then wait like 3 hours before you can download the next part.

IMO it's cheaper to register a premium account on rapidshare than Usenet.
