Stargate (1994)

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was quite a lot of fun actually. I did kinda cringe at the whole ancient aliens thing but overall it was pretty good.

I liked David Arnold's score for it too, and I loved that the version of it I saw wasn't DNR'd or imperfections eliminated in any way.

Interview with the Vampire (1994)

So me and my lady friend watched this after we saw Twilight: Breaking Wind part 2 (The only good bit in that film coming from Michael Sheen's deliciously hammy performance in that film). THIS is a vampire film.

It's interesting that while both Twilight and Interview bear quite a few similarities Interview does things right where Twilight does them wrong. It shows the characters in a real world context, what their existence actually entails, and who these people appear to be both on the outside and who they are inside.. Twilight however does this in a extremely skewed and twisted Romance novel-y type way. In Interview the film knows that Tom Cruise's character is not particularly nice, but in Twilight the film fails to realise that Edward is a complete creep.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Reaaaaaaaal good. I love the scruffiness of it, the music, the performances and humour.

5 balls out of 5.

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)

Better than I thought it would be. I'm not fond of the melding of CGI and Traditional Animation (or CGI and any other form of animation in general) It not as good as Prince of Egypt or Road to El Dorado but it's still quite good.

Our very own doubleofive co-hosts (?) a Star Trek podcast about non-Star Trek subjects, and he gave a shout out to TRM and AOTR.  You can hear it here:

Did not the screenwriters say a couple of years ago this would be more dark like the Dark Knight, comparing the first film to Batman Begins as an origin story.

That made me as worried as the idea of a Dark Superman ripoff of the Batman Nolan movies.  Now i hope i am wrong about Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness, but its a wait and see thing.

Hopefully the villain in the new trek film is not another Khan ripoff like Shinzon or Nero.  Or worse a Dark Clone of Kirk. Like a remake of Nemesis.

As for Man of Steel, it's produced by Christopher Nolan so I wouldn't worry about that being a TDK rip-off.

And I don't think there's anything to worry about here with STID. Didn't you say that they compared ST to BB? So what's wrong with STID being compared to TDK? Yeah, TDK was darker, so that just means that STID will be darker than ST. It doesn't mean that it will be TDK level dark. Just darker.

So I think darker is a good thing. Why? Let me recall another sci-fi franchise you might have heard of, whose second part was darker. What was its name?

Beats me.

Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation!!

Going by one of the buildings in the latest entry in the increasingly dull iconic shape cut out of building range of movie posters, that's London.

Notice the Gherkin?

Yeah, it's London. The London eye is in the left hand corner as well. Explains all the English actors in this film. I guess they're not playing french characters after all.

I quite like the new poster, it's certainly a lot different from all the other Trek posters. Colour me excited.
