It would be nice if Williams could atleast do like he did for Superman IV and write themes/music for Giacchino to work with.

That could work really well. Or could have John Williams in a supervisory capacity, kind of an apprenticeship for Giacchino.  "That cue is good, this one needs some work, let me rewrite these bars, etc."

That way the new generation is being trained and you have Williams' brilliance combined with youthful energy like Giacchino.

That's actually a really good idea. I hope Giacchino does get the role, although I hope Williams does get to be involved somehow too. I really like Giacchino's scores, being a trumpet player myself I love the way he uses brass.

I do legitimately love 'Casablanca'. I remember seeing it as a child and not being particularly interested in it (I was more interested in old episodes of Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Star wars, Star Trek, 'violent' Sega megadrive games, old ealing comedies, and Hammer Horror films that I wasn't allowed to watch round a friend's house) but watching it now while I won't say that it's the greatest film every made, that film doesn't exist, I will say that I really enjoy watching it.

I don't really mind it being considered 'overrated', although people are perfectly in their rights to say that it is. (Given my downright bizarre personal tastes, I dislike some films which are universally praised, and enjoy some films which are despised by a vast majority, as well as vice versa, one should take my opinion on something with a vast grain of salt.)

Just don't watch 'The Third Man' after Casablanca. It's downright depressing seeing the two back to back. The Third Man is very much an antithesis to Casablanca.

Anyways, stuff I've seen.

Xtro (1983)

It's very odd. Me and a group of friends sat around and watched this the other day, and I only found out the day after that Redlettermedia had also reviewed it. It is a great deal creepier, scarier and a vast deal better than what we all thought it was going to be. I loved the use of practical effects in this, something you very, very rarely see in modern horror nowadays.

The Magnet (1950)

A lovely sweet little film, while maybe not quite up to snuff compared to other classic Ealing comedies, nonetheless makes up for it with a lot of heart. The story involves a small boy going on the run after thinking that he's killed another young boy.

Black Mirror is back and just as good as before.

I really love the show, but I also deeply hate it at the same time. It's so unremittingly, depressingly cynical. Even though I am an extremely cynical sceptical person myself, I do like a glimmer of idealism.

I'd really like an episode of Black Mirror wherein it shows the benefits of technology, with the story entirely devoid of sneer or cynicism (could be something along the lines of a simple love story involving internet dating, or a shared interest in technology or something. Just something positive.)

To quote a poster on one of the forums for The Silver Lining.

"Crapsack worlds and anti-heroes have their place. Sometimes, they are very necessary. But an endless diet of dreary cyberpunk and dark fantasy won't do us any more favours than an endless feast of glurge. I'd argue that the cynical nature of these really hurt our ability to hope and work for better. It gets us to accept the hopelessness and jaded outlook of things as 'That's the way it is. I can't change it,' and stops us from fighting when we NEED to fight."

Maybe it's just my personal taste though.

^^ I have been reading the Batgirl issues of this story arc. The last page of Batgirl #17 was pretty gruesome. The story concludes in this weeks Batman #17. I think I may know what you mean. If so....yeah..what ?

I read a preview that basically gives away the end of the arc and I'm pretty sure it's gruesome as hell if I have it right.

*POTENTIAL SPOILER*

It seems like the Joker is going to serve him Alfred's corpse on a plate.

*END SPOILER*

Ah, modern DC ... I'm so glad I avoid you like the plague.

Hey! Don't knock modern DC!! The New 52 take on Aquaman and Firestorm is really good! (Then again, those are the only ones I've been buying. I didn't particuarly like the New 52 Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman or Green Lantern Comics)

Agreed.

Although as for which is worst--Diamonds are Forever or Moonraker--I just can't make up my mind.

Neither of those two. For all their flaws, they do have some good bits. Moonraker has a great opening sequence followed by a cracking title song belted out by the always wonderful Shirley Bassey (Who's song 'No Good about Goodbye' should've been the theme to 'Quantum of Sport', considering it's leitmotif is sprinkled throughout.)

Diamonds are forever has... um... err.... That car on two wheels bit and Plenty O'toole's... tracts of land... Oh and that part where Bond climbs the Las Vegas building... And that fight with Bambi and Thumper... But yeah, overall, it's pretty bad.

Die Another Day is by far the worst Bond film. I cannot stand the avalanche of godawful puns, teeth grindly bad editing, trying and failing to look 'hip' and 'cool'. Although, I will say this, it does have a really cool swordfight scene... and at least it doesn't have Sheriff J.W. Pepper, who is by far the most irritating character to have appeared in a Bond movie... Besides Roger Moore (although I do agree with Sir Roger's stance on foie gras.)

I am currently reading "Shrink Rap"  By Robert B. Parker, on my new Kindle that I got for Christman.    It is a detective story.

Christman is a great name for a detective.

The adventures of Christman and his sidekick Crossie, solving crime throughout time!!

* Crossie is an anthropomorphised cross.

This could be an awesome webcomic, in the style of the Silver Age DC comics... but on Crack.

Episode III: Revenge of the Ridiculousness
Time

I'm going to repost this.

I've got it!

The final shot of Revenge of the Ridiculousnessness (or whatever it's going to be called) has Maul's Darth Darth's speeder fly across the Tatooine desert, past Owen and Beru (who are looking up into the suns setting) and drives straight into the camera, Walking on Sunshine blaring over the end credits.

The speeder could be used in the other films somehow, amongst the trash on the Jawa's Crawler thingy, Walking on Sunshine now playing slower and lowerpitched. Don't know how it could fit into Empire or Jedi though.

Maybe instead of that frog thing that eats the other thing on the outside of Jabba's palace, the speeder lies there, finally finishing the song for one last time, before the batteries finally run out.

Greenie's Ten FPS video game Commandments

1. Thou shall make the game fun.

2. Thou shall not use regenerative health. Health packs are to be used only to add actual tension to the game.

3. Thou shall not have any quick time events.

4. Thou shall make the game look interesting. Greys and browns are not to be used exclusively (unless justified within the story)

5. Thou shall tell a good story within the single-player campaign.

6. Thou shall not base the game solely around the multi-player campaign if the game is to have a single-player campaign also.

7. Thou shall be able to carry more than two weapons at a time.

8. Thou shall be able to aim a weapon without looking down the sights constantly.

9. Thou must tax the player creatively, allowing them to figure things out for themselves. Nothing is better for a player than them wondering 'Where do I have to go now?'

10. Thou shall allow the player the ability to optionally choose to turn off tutorials and pop up indicators at the very start of the game.

Les Miserables

saw it last night.  could have been better, ALOT better.   Russel Crowe was the wrong choice for Javert.  He does not have the vocal range.  I think most of the cast didn't have the vocal range of Les Mis.  I could tell where there had been cuts made.  It was clear they cut the beginnings of a few of the songs.   And not only didn't 'Do you the people sing" not immediately after "Red and Black"  but they put it after "One More Day" wrong, wrong, wwwwwwwrroooonnnnnnnnnggggg!

*sigh*  what could have been. *shakes head* what could have been.   yet another in the long line of Hollywood f___ups of Broadway classics.    *sigh*

AND THEY CUT OUT TOM BOMBADIL!!! OMG RUINED FOREVARR!!1!1!!!!1ONE!!!1!1!1! LOLZ!

I've only seen the stage show once, but I thought they did a pretty good job adapting it. Obviously there's going to be changes in adaptation, and I thought some of them actually suited the story within the film better than in the show.

I saw the hobbit today. Thought it was Ok.

The film took forever to start, the stuff in the shire really bogs things down and by the time the film started to properly building up some steam it ended!

A fan-edit is definitely in order. The stuff that they added in to lengthen the plot just seamed to slow the film down to a crawl (And yes I understand that they used supplemental material that Tolkien wrote to lengthen the story, but really hinders the story of 'The Hobbit')

^^I've been hearing good things about the new Aquaman comic. It's not one that I collect but there is a cross-over with Justice League so I will be getting it for that.

It is pretty damn good. I haven't read the Justice League issues he's in, but I'll definitely be checking that out.
