I agree that some of the claims in the links I provided were erroneous.

I just want to make it absolutely clear, MOST of those claims in your first link  were not erroneous; they were flat out fabrications.

But, if we think about the monotheistic religions as essentially the same lineage of teaching at different times (or in different regions)...

Uhh... Do we think that?

Maybe God has been fine tuning how he reveals himself to people over the years.

In which case he probably needs to drop the claims of all seeing, all knowing, and perfection in the next iteration, because if he is responsible for all of them, he's really been sucking it up big time for quite sometime now. Something that is all seeing and all knowing doesn't need to fine tune.

The Bible is an extension of the Old Testament, and the Quran discusses Judiasm and Christianity quite extensively because the God of Islam is the same as the Christian/Jewish God. I'd say there's a lineage there.

It's natural to see some common threads in various religions. I agree that some of the claims in the links I provided were erroneous.

But, if we think about the monotheistic religions as essentially the same lineage of teaching at different times (or in different regions), it wouldn't be a stretch to extend the familiarity to religions preceding monotheism.

Maybe God has been fine tuning how he reveals himself to people over the years (not sarcastic, honestly).

What do people think of the alleged similarities among Jesus, Horus (Egyptian god), Buddha, Krishna, and Mithra (Zoroastrian)?

Some believe the stories of these deities and religious figures to have common roots.

Let me assure you this isn't meant to insult Christians. The similarities are interesting, but I'm not trying to debunk anyone's beliefs. Just curious to know if anyone (Christian or not) has learned or read about these comparisons. I'm not sure if all the claims are true and don't present these as facts.

I wasn't thinking of South Park when I asked that question. I was genuinely curious if the artifacts had somehow been preserved.

While I might disagree or have different beliefs, that discussion is reserved for the insane Politics thread.

It's cool of you to take all the questions on here. Not many people would be so open, methinks.

Videodrome.

God, what a bore this was. I managed to stay awake watching Das Boot, but this had me dozing off after an hour in. Truly this is one of the most overrated films in existence. 5-bordering-on-4/10

Videodrome is one of my favorite cult movies, and maybe my favorite by the master Cronenberg.

It's a study on how we've desensitized ourselves to sex and violence in everyday culture/entertainment. Media like television can essentially be used to brainwash and control people. Nearly 30 years after the movie was released we see how predictive it was.

Then again, if you ask me the propensity for violence was always there. We just have different delivery methods (watching people executed centuries ago vs. watching violence on tv presently). Same shitty human nature.

Long live the new flesh!

LOL at everyone wasting money on this POS movie (all in light-hearted fun, of course).

George continues to sell people the same garbage, and despite their reservations they gladly pay for it.

Sure, I recognize there are people who might actually find these prequels to be not as craptacular as I think they are, but even the haters might pony up because, "It's Star Wars."

The fact that even ONE person went to see THIS movie in the theater like two months after the blu-ray came out on home video...

makes me wish the Earth would just get the Alderaan treatment now and get it over with.

Exactly. SW fans, even the ones who openly criticize George, the prequels, the special editions, and all the other crap, still can't manage to say, "No," to the flannel overlord. The levels of self-loathing are immeasurable.

Makes me think of Professor Farnsworth - "I don't want to live on this planet anymore."

Can't wait for George to blame the fans when they ask for the other movies in 3D and he says that they didn't give him enough money to see Jar Jar get farted on in 3D.

Still can't understand why people would want any of the movies, prequel or original, in 3D. Yes, I realize it's a fad and people like it for the kiddies, but anyone with half a brain should realize that giving George money to sell them the same garbage over and over again is a bad thing.

Does anyone here still like Star Wars?
Time

I will always enjoy the UOT. As a kid in the 90s I also enjoyed various SW-related entertainment like some of the EU comics/novels, video games, customizable card game, etc. Every now and then I'll look back fondly on enjoying those activities

However, I've come to fucking hate the Star Wars franchise. By that, I mean all the garbage with the prequels, OT changes, rehashing storylines in the EU, merchandising, Lucas whining and telling his fans to fuck off, apologists being apologists, etc. SW is incredibly played out, and it depresses me that people still give Lucas money for the same crap over and over because it's wrapped in a slightly different package.

Darth Maul resurrected in the cartoon? Gee, does that have anything to do with the 3D release of The Phantom Menace? How many people have fallen for that gimmick? Lucas is cunning, but he won't get another dime from me. Hell, I don't know if I'd even buy the UOT on BD, if hell froze over and that happened. Doing so would justify everything that has preceded it.

tl;dr - love the UOT and some pre-special edition stuff. Fuck the rest.

TPM 3D made 23 million this weekend???   Thats pretty damn good for a movie thats been released before.  I swear I shake my head at this fanbase, and I think I just need to walk away for good as my only hope of a BluRay OOT look less and less possible.

I am telling you that Lucas could make a 2 hour movie of Darth Vader taking a shit in trash compactor of the Death Star, and fans would flock to it.  They would say, "Well, its still Star Wars!"  To read about these jerkoff adults dressing up for the midnight show for this slop makes me embarrassed to be a human being.

Fixed.

UOT on BD will never happen. The UOT is, for all intents and purposes, dead. It lives on through the 2006 DVDs, old VHS tapes, and fan edits/remasters.

'Why the SW prequels are better than the OT' - article inside
Time

I just found the article hilarious from the perspective of it being a whole new wave of apologist Lucas worship. This line made me wonder if the author is a master troll.

Yoda's observations about anger, hate, fear, and suffering are not said lightly; they may be the most prescient words spoken by a movie character in recent memory.

The attempts to rationalize the prequels and discredit the criticism of them simply being shitty movies never cease to amaze me.
