Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years
Time

One more thing, I have to imagine one of the reasons Lucas made this deal was to "protect the IP". He didn't really pursue lawsuits of fan films and such in the past, but I think the SW fan universe has expanded such that if Lucas wants to keep it all in the family, he knows he's going to have to crack down. But since he's too lazy to spearhead that himself, he's comfortable letting Disney and Kathleen take the reins.

I hope George will have time to do those small films nobody wants to see...

Honestly, I don't think this announcement changes things in the larger framework. More movies, more products.

If you have someone like Brad Bird directing (and writing) a Star Wars film it could be really interesting, but I guess I'm apathetic toward this because I expected it all along.

That's the title Gene Roddenberry had on all the Star Trek films made after TMP.

With all due respect I'd put Roddenberry in a higher tier than Lucas for idea conception, development, and realization. ;)

I don't think George Lucas has proven himself to be as competent in those regards, despite mass opinion, but I digress.

*edited for typo. I wouldn't "but" Roddenberry.

Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films.

Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

LOL. Creative consultant.

Called it.

I know I've posted those thoughts many times, and I'm not the only one, but still it's a little gratifying to know how well I have the flannel one pegged down. He's too predictable. I've been expecting this announcement, or some form of it, for years.

There was never a chance in hell they wouldn't make another trilogy. The brand is too popular and too valuable.

So is Arnold going to be replaying every role he's done?

I read somewhere that's there's plans for him to star in a Terminator remake/reboot. Now, if the plan's to yet again reprise the role of the cyborg, then that's a really bad idea.

A few years ago the proposed plan was to have Arnold and Robert Patrick play genetic/stem cell scientists who engineer younger versions of themselves. It's actually a decent idea but I'm sure the Hollywood execution would be terrible.

The Old Dark House (1932)

This is a masterpiece and an absolute delight. I love James Whale. Kino's DVD is deplorable and from a battered 16mm reduction.

I love that movie.

I just watched Horror Hotel (aka City of the Dead). WOW! Such an underrated movie. Some of the most beautiful black and white imagery I've ever seen. Christopher Lee is great in a small role, but the whole movie builds up a great amount of tension for a final 10-15 minutes that are fantastic. Wholeheartedly recommended.
