Info & Help Wanted: for a 9/11 News Footage Preservation Project...
Time

You're right about it being an immensely traumatic experience--again, I can't imagine what it was like, but I've seen many people who lived through 9/11 (and also the invasion of Normandy, in the case of Saving Private Ryan) say that they couldn't handle watching footage of it, simply because it was an experience that was incredibly traumatic and horrifying. To be there when something like that happens...that would definitely change you. Those sorts of emotions are incredibly delicate, and that's why I mentioned above that I was so gratified that several people that had gone through it were actually interested in seeing this little project--it actually caught me by surprise.

As far as the use of the phrase "hide away," I was specifically referring to hiding away the evidence of what happened (i.e. video, etc). I have a feeling that many people have tapes of national or local newcasts of what happened, but don't want to make themselves known because they feel odd about it (see Zombie84's post for an example of this), maybe ghoulish in some way, or they think that that footage should just be allowed to fade away. I just don't think that should be the case, but I'm trying very hard to be respectful to people that lived through 9/11. In fact, if you look at the thread I have about this in the Myspleen forums, somebody (apparently joking) said that their mother died in 9/11, how dare I do this, etc, and I pretty much went into full retreat, until they admitted the joke.

So please be aware that I have nothing but sympathy for the people who were in NYC on that day, or who lost family/friends in the attacks.

I beg your pardon if I sounded harsh.

On the point of hiding away evidence and such I could not agree with you more. And again I think it's important that you and hopefully others put together a project such as this.

The two I am aware of as you say is the german and italian dvd release of the director's cut trilogy. The italian released dvd, which I believe is out of print, is 4 discs while the german is 3. I think there are other differences. Then I believe there is a german "short" version is 20 minutes longer then the us version.

Don't know if I could handle watching most of it, was there myself. But I think this kind of restoration project should be done, and it's great you're doing it.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to have been there, but my retort to that sort of thinking is, when its something of this large a scale, it can never be a private experience. The nation as a whole experienced it. To deny that experience to future generations is a huge mistake. Should we have burned the pictures of the internment camps in Germany, because of how horrible they were? Should Abraham Zapruder have let his film rot in a can, because of how traumatic it was for him to see his president die?

Like it or not, it's national and international history, and to hide that away is a mistake. So I really, really appreciate the interest and support. If anyone knows anybody with personal photographs or video of that day, please encourage them to release that stuff. It was a horrible day, but it happened, and that can't be changed. To hide it away in the dark would be a mistake.

Zombie84--It would be great if you could digitize that and send it my way. I've been offering to do transfers myself, but I would much rather have people do it for me. And again, if anybody has better footage in better quality than is available at Youtube, please send it my way. I am fortunate enough to have the first post-9/11 broadcast of the Daily Show, and Jon Stewart gave a hell of a speech at the beginning of that show. I'll definitely be including that in a future DVD.

I see what you're saying but I agree a bit and also strongly disagree. As someone that was there, it's not the same as news footage with a news logo slapped on. And even if something is shared, like the invasion of normandy for example, for those that were there, it IS a private and traumatic experience. So I think that with this kind of thing there is a grey area of understanding. Yes people should learn what they can about a moment of history, history is and always will be important. But talk to wives, husbands, sons and daughters who have lost, talk to them about sharing, tell them not to "hide away", it's not so simple and one should tred carefully. With respect I think to assign the term "hide away" is short sighted IF referring to people that don't want to deal with what happened.

Until the end of the World: Director's Cut (* unfinished project *)
Time

I would like to put together a “special edition dvd” for the Wim Wender’s film “Until the end of the world”, while it does have it’s problems it’s a very interesting film, the best version of this film is the director’s cut which is split into 3 parts, my thought for a collection would be:

The complete Directors Cut (subtitled in English)
The US or German “short” version of the film
deleted scenes
u2 music video “Until the End of the World”
Trailers
making of extras

Any thoughts? idea? things you would perhaps like to include?

Material So Far:

3 - part Director’s Cut
German Teaser
“Up Down Under Roma” Interview with Wim Wenders sitting in the back of an open covertable while driving around Rome
“Until the End of the Film” Interview with Wim Wenders
Outtakes
Photo Gallery
“Wim Wender - Interview with Roger Willemsen” (In German, no subs)
“Until the End of the World” U2 Music Video

Info Wanted: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone NTSC - anyone doing this?

I'm not sure "truer to the book" is the thing to say, because the US edition of the book is titled "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". But I know what you're getting at -- J. K. Rowling titled it "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" for good reason (the Philosopher's Stone is the holy grail for alchemists), so the title should never have been changed in the first place.

Said better then myself, but yes exactly.

HUGE fan of this movie. There are already SE's in various regions and i'm compiling all the extras that didn't make it onto the R1. Any way I could get a copy of this from someone?

I could put a copy of it online for download if you wished.

I'd love you forever.

pm me with what you have in mind.

Yeh - I was meaning add the deleted scenes that are on there as extras back into the film, they're all from the book and do add to the story. A couple of them would require some audio work (ie. adding a music track over a night club scene where there's no backing music) If anyone was wanting to do this I could help by saying where the scenes would fit in according to the book and which track to addd into the nightclub scene (the club scenes were a take off of the movie Bright Lights Big City - so it would have almost certainly been the Prince song from that soundtrack used in the AP scene).

I heard the run time was slightly more for the AP workprint, but I wondered if it was just due to PAL/NTSC speed up or actually had more footage. I know the film so well, literally line for line for the most part, I'd be able to figure out any differences if I had a copy. Not sure if it was ever torrented though...

I would be interested in doing assuming no one else it, right now I'm busy with another project, and life in general, but could you give me a list of songs that perhaps would have been intended for those scenes?

They released an unrated version, yeah, but it also included more deleted scenes in the supplemental section that weren't in the flick. I think he's talking about putting that stuff back in.

Do I have the workprint? Yes. Have I watched it? No. The running time of the workprint I have, though, is 3mins longer than the running time on IMDb.

Is it possible your workprint is the "unrated version" of the film?

I'm trying to join to clips togther, both clips seperately are in synch, when joined they are not. Now Clip A is from a different source as Clip B. Clip A has has video from one source that I created and audio from a different source, the clip is NTSC, Clip B is originaly from an PAL source and I slowed down both the audio and video in Virtual Dub to make it so. Can anyone help me?

Info: If... (1968)

When I wrote scope I meant to write "metroscope" which should not be confused with the other. Metroscope was a cropped flat "widescreen" system which had a recommended aspect ratio of 1.75:1 but was protected for cropping down to 2:1. The name Metroscope I believe was created by MGM, and the format was popular for a time in Europe (this bieng a film from the UK, the studio in this case is Paramount).

As far as progress, I guess you could say I have about 30% left to finish. I'm having an issue with correctly syncing the audio would I could maybe use help with.
