George Lucas on Oprah's OWN

there better not be any truth to that rumor he took the director responsibilities away from anthony hemingway on red tails.  would love to see apologists spin that....

hopefully more cast and crew will speak out about the OOT.  not just saying they would release it if it was up to them - but saying lucas is wrong and selfish (not to mention hypocritical when it comes to ESB and ROTJ)

I don't think anyone will spill the beans about Red Tails or anything else while George is still alive.

None of the current bitching and gossiping that Star Trek cast members engage in happened while Gene Roddenberry was alive.  The facade fell very soon after Gene died.

OT: No Lightsabres for Yoda or The Emperor

Saber or no saber issues aside, I have to give George one bit of credit. He's kept Yoda's origins shrouded in mystery.

We still don't even know his species in an era where every Cantina creature has a backstory.

A certain bounty hunter lost some of his mystique once we knew way too much about him. ;)

Agree, but putting in Yaddle kind of took away from that.  She made Yoda less unique and was a meaningless character that didn't add anything to the story.

Jake Lloyd: "My entire school life was really a living hell."

Looks like The Sun (where the article first originated) has yet again been making crap up. :

Here's The Sun article.  They claim "a magazine" as their source:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/film/4170549/Star-Wars-Anakin-Skywalker-star-Jake-Lloyd-I-will-never-act-again.html

I don't know who to believe.  Is The Sun a tabloid?

It seems whenever an actor speaks out against GL, a denial/retraction/clarification/apology is issued after a few days.

I'm sure he is an awesome guy and got undue personal tormenting at school but you also have be fair to yourself in that it's not some personal shame to have criticized his performance, unless you were really mean and personal. Frankly, his performance wasn't good, partly because he was miscast and, I must assume, poorly directed, but also because as far as nine-year-old child actors go he just wasn't that good.

I don't feel bad for saying that he was a bad actor, but I do feel bad for blaming him for ruining TPM/Star Wars.

I know most people blamed Jar Jar-- how when he first showed up on screen, they got an "Oh sh*t" sinking feeling in their gut.  For me, that didn't happen until Anakin/Jake appeared.  He happened to debut in the dullest, dumbest stretch of the film.  One of the first things he does is build C-3PO (which still irks me) and deliver some of the lamest lines in movie history.

It took me a long time to realize that the guy that wrote those terrible lines, that picked and directed those actors was the one I really should be blaming.  That man was a guy I had really looked up to, and I suppose I tried hard not to face that fact and placed blame on others.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

I think the kids that grew up with the PT will have an easier time dealing with it than those of us that were adults during The Great Disappointment of '99.

I was 7 when Jedi came out, so the Ewoks never really bothered me.  At that age, you could have had Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy appear in the Lapti Nek scene and I would have accepted it.  When I came out of the theater in 83, I probably would have told you it was the best of the three.

When I got older, I realized that it was actually the worst of the three and that those criticisms that my parents and other adults had about the film were totally correct.  (I remember my mother groaning about how stupid "Leia is my sister" was.)

Even though I know the Ewoks were a calculated marketing scheme, they still don't bother me.  I don't love them, I don't hate them.  Perhaps they've even grown on me a bit more now that I see how much worse it can get.  I'd rather watch an Ewok than a Gungan any day.

Was George Lucas a trickster the whole time?
Time

Lucas has absolutely no foresight.  He has Luke and Leia making out and makes them brother & sister 3 years later.  He could not pull off such a "conspiracy" if his life depended on it.

And now for my conspiracy theory:

I wonder if some posters here are Lucasfilm plants?  Some people post ridiculous things like this topic that just make us look bad.  A couple posters constantly say, "We've lost, George has won" and try to get us to give up on our efforts.

TPM3D, however, fell to 6th place and had by far the lowest increase: 21%

It's saying 7th place for me.

Wow.  This totally blows away the "prequels are beloved by the general public and only hated by a few whiny nerds" theory out of the water.

I also can't wait to see how George, Katie, and Rick spin this.  I have some guesses on what they'll say, but hesitate to post them for fear that they'll use them.  That's right George, if you want my spin doctoring, you'll have to pay me handsomely.
