I was 7 when ROTJ premiered. I agree with LexX-- because of being exposed to TESB at age 4, Leia/Carrie is like an aunt or something to me. I can't really think that way about her. IIRC, I felt bad/embarrassed for Leia for being forced to wear something like that.
Was 1 when Star Wars came out, so I have no memory of anything pre-Star Wars. Saw ESB @ age 4. All the kids really talked about from 1980-1983 was Star Wars and to a lesser extent, video games.
I'm curious what were the kids into in 1976 before Star Wars hit and changed everything?

None of the current bitching and gossiping that Star Trek cast members engage in happened while Gene Roddenberry was alive. The facade fell very soon after Gene died.

This silly game will be totally forgotten in a couple years, judging by the poor reviews it's getting.
Picking that carbon freezing scene for this travesty seems like it was an intentional F U by Lucas and friends.

Agree, but putting in Yaddle kind of took away from that. She made Yoda less unique and was a meaningless character that didn't add anything to the story.

Frank Miller is like George Lucas: One of those guys that did a few groundbreaking projects early on, began believing their own hype about being a "visionary genius", and from then on produced only self-indulgent crap that no one liked.

I know most people blamed Jar Jar-- how when he first showed up on screen, they got an "Oh sh*t" sinking feeling in their gut. For me, that didn't happen until Anakin/Jake appeared. He happened to debut in the dullest, dumbest stretch of the film. One of the first things he does is build C-3PO (which still irks me) and deliver some of the lamest lines in movie history.
It took me a long time to realize that the guy that wrote those terrible lines, that picked and directed those actors was the one I really should be blaming. That man was a guy I had really looked up to, and I suppose I tried hard not to face that fact and placed blame on others.
I probably did say bad things about Jake at the time. I recall horrible things being said about him on Usenet. I know I loathed his performance. It didn't dawn on me probably until Episode 2 that the bad performances were George's fault as a director.

Part of the reason the prequels never felt like Star Wars to me was because they lacked McQuarrie and Joe Johnston's genius.
I expected at least we would see some of the old designs show up at some point. That we'd get to see X-Wings, the Landspeeder, etc. when they were shiny and new, before they got old and all dinged up in the OT.
But no.

I think the kids that grew up with the PT will have an easier time dealing with it than those of us that were adults during The Great Disappointment of '99.
I was 7 when Jedi came out, so the Ewoks never really bothered me. At that age, you could have had Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy appear in the Lapti Nek scene and I would have accepted it. When I came out of the theater in 83, I probably would have told you it was the best of the three.
When I got older, I realized that it was actually the worst of the three and that those criticisms that my parents and other adults had about the film were totally correct. (I remember my mother groaning about how stupid "Leia is my sister" was.)
Even though I know the Ewoks were a calculated marketing scheme, they still don't bother me. I don't love them, I don't hate them. Perhaps they've even grown on me a bit more now that I see how much worse it can get. I'd rather watch an Ewok than a Gungan any day.
I read somewhere that the actor based Watto's voice on Alec Guiness playing Fagin.
"So am I forgiven for Jar Jar, guys?"
But you still need to atone for the Nemoidian Trade Federation, George.

True! The scary thing about that whole Drew McWeeny "banned from the Ranch" thing is that we now know George Lucas really does keep an enemy's list, just like Nixon.
Lucas has absolutely no foresight. He has Luke and Leia making out and makes them brother & sister 3 years later. He could not pull off such a "conspiracy" if his life depended on it.

I wonder if some posters here are Lucasfilm plants? Some people post ridiculous things like this topic that just make us look bad. A couple posters constantly say, "We've lost, George has won" and try to get us to give up on our efforts.
I stopped reading that site when that idiot wrote that piece attacking the Occupy movement and placing blame on its existence on Generation X.
They must have ran out of legitimately funny things to write about and are now just flat-out soapboxing without any humor.

Wow. This totally blows away the "prequels are beloved by the general public and only hated by a few whiny nerds" theory out of the water.
I also can't wait to see how George, Katie, and Rick spin this. I have some guesses on what they'll say, but hesitate to post them for fear that they'll use them. That's right George, if you want my spin doctoring, you'll have to pay me handsomely.
