Laserdisc players - screenshot comparison

It's a later Panasonic design, so it's at least as good as the later Pioneer NTSC midrange players...

... which means it's leaps and bounds better than a 515 playing NTSC disks.  Almost all the PAL/NTSC players except the 925 and DVL's (and *maybe* the 2950) have atrociously bad circuitry post-processing NTSC signals.

Others on forum.lddb.com might know more.

 Thanks for the info.

Necro-bump

My CLD 515 motor has given up the ghost, so popped for a Panasonic LX-V880en.

There is no information about this player anywhere I can find, it didn't come with a remote and that's a shame.

But I find out not it does not play PAL discs, not a huge loss it does play vcd's tho (may come in handy one day)

Anyone know any details on it at all?

Particularly when video CD came out :-D

I don't know if Video CD was as widely marketed here. Never saw a standalone player in the U.S., you needed a CDI player, plus an extra gizmo called the digital video cartridge to play them and some full motion games.

It probably didn't help that some early CDI movies weren't authored to the VCD specs, and wouldn't play on anything else.

That new VCD's still come out in Asia boggles my mind.

So thats why the copy of Black Rain i got wont play!

Info Wanted: Star Wars 4-6 (unaltered Original Trilogy) theater film reels still in existence?

We are interested in all aspects of Star Wars on film regardless of origin.

The film grain and color are the unique features we are trying to preserve.

Of course, later on we will move on to other movies like the Raiders of the lost Ark trilogy. (Edit : And not to forgot the fourth movie, which was also on film).

someone on avs had 35mm frames from Clones and it looked amazing, can't find them now tho.

Do we have prequel 35mm reels at all? Or were they a lot tighter controlled?

That's unusual, I've never seen a Dolby trailer attached to a TV rip (or screening).

A 'raw' theatrical HDTV rip would be a good find - I'm finding the 1080i DC a bit tricky to conform to the theatrical audio. It's worth the effort, though - it's a terrific presentation of the film, and side by side with the Blu demonstrates just how misjudged that remastering job was.

Incidentally, the 1991 widescreen laserdisc appears not to be the reported 2.35:1, but rather an opened-out 2.20:1. I'm not sure if any other releases use this format - presumably it's what the 70mm prints would have looked like.

yes indeed, the blow up ratio would have been 2.20:1.

OK so if I understand this correctly you guys have the LD bit perfect PCM for Star Trek 1-5(still need 6, I hope we find it) and these 1080i files are way better then the BD video? why are they better? also what is wrong with the BD audio, or would the idea here be to have the LD PCM as an option like we do with most of our releases? I am just trying to wrap my head around all this Star Trek buzz in this thread lately, but if these 1080i files are better, and we have PCM audio files, a movie only at least BD to compliment the Box Set would be pretty damn cool.

The BD audio is fine but not the original mix

I think Mike here has the right approach because he knows he has something, that won't be matched by people just doing a job for money. Like the Blu-Rays or the reliance clips we have seen.

And to be honest, It's about time someone dangled a carrot over this film and said... "I have a superior version do you want it or not....Because everybody else wants it"

And I think that is a strong enough message unto itself.

Keep going Mike and try to think of a way to get your messages out to more people so people will feel cheated out of what is the "Standard" and not some lame excuse of a release that quite frankly is not acceptable, should not and will not be peddled out to the public in the current state it is in.

to be fair to reliance, (and I hate their work more than anyone) I am not sure the shots in their trailer are fully timed

While they are better than the Blurays, no DNR, they are old looking prints with plenty of dirt specks especially 4 and 6 (6 has the same aspect ratio as the original dvd around 2:1). I wouldn't call them great like dvdmike. Better is a word I would use.

I would say 2 is one of the better ones.

No I still go with great, I like the dirt, I am a fan of an analogue look to video and I like  the 70mm blow up ratio for 6
