Sad they try and fake SR on bluray, they always fuck it up
Sad they try and fake SR on bluray, they always fuck it up
Damn, the German listing on eBay says it’s still 4:3 😦
Edit:
And here: http://www.alive-ag.de/index.php?page=artikel&ArtikelNr=6416254
I liked that above, can anyone in the states try the Amazon video version.
Has anyone compared the latest Lionsgate blu-ray transfer? (Studio Canal+ here in Canada) Apparently they’ve managed to release it with a minimal amount of DNR so it looks to be an improvement. I considered buying this version but didn’t want to buy it yet again on blu-ray with the T2 3D having been announced for release this year. I’m hoping for a new 4K transfer along with the original theatrical mix but I doubt we’ll see the latter.
It’s the same master comparable to the UK disc

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.de/itm/161879726415
Ok what is going on here?
Anyone?
These are both new and new to me, restored edition is interesting
It’s rent or buy on amazon video also, but won’t let me as I am in the UK
Isn’t that story from Edwards a bad sign?
I mean, it seems to confirm that no one is working on a theatrical restoration.
Or not

He doesn’t state what version it is. It could very well be the SE.
The thought was it’s not the SE not the GOUT but between
@Mike… C4 broadcast the theatrical cut earlier this year, I don’t know if you caught it, if so, what was the sound mix?
I didn’t, I only pop true lies on if it’s on TV to see the master used

They are all the same master basicly
Sad really
I was revisiting Slipstream and wondered of the status of this project or any additions? (Haven’t seen new sources on eBay.)
Bar the Jp laserdisc and my trailer we don’t have anything new sadly
Saw this in the cinema in 3d and never since!
It does not match the 70mm, nothing does
It’s the closest by far however
The encode does nothing for it, the master is shite and always has been unfortunately
It needs a new master
Also that first pic, I took that ages ago and it gets everywhere
Ah, so you’re the originator? It’s been referenced on here by other members, never knew who the creator was. Also used here: http://notonbluray.com/blog/orange-and-teal/ is that your blog btw?
JayArgonaut it’s hard to get into mind of James Cameron. At different times and on different formats he seems to prefer a different color scale. BD looks amazing but there is too much blue/orange complementary color there for my taste (but again that was a popular choice in the 80s even though he chose it in 00s). I have Aliens on pretty much all formats and DVD color is pretty much close to what I get used to the most. The best option would be to have “original” (whichever it is) color version and optional new color regrade as an option on blu-ray.
Yeah, likewise with Lucas (who I’m convinced has gone insane), Spielberg and many many others who’ve pulled similar stunts. I’m driven to distraction by the endless home video revisions and perplexing choices. From the uncut 1:66.1 version of Robocop only being available on an OOP non-anamorphic 1999 DVD, to The Matrix receiving a re-colour so it matches the sequels.
Yeah I found a hd version of the DVD master and compared them, here I think
Not my blog, it may be a coincidence but it’s the same frame I tookI saw a 70mm print this year, it did not look anything like the BD at all.
So what is the closest color from available formats that you’d compare to 70mm screening?
The THX laser, is damn close the print was amazing
One of the many reasons I’m using the 95 THX Laserdisc as the source for my regrade. Thanks dvdmike
No problemo as I said before ask away 😃

From all I’ve read on the subject so far it seems to me that we should be pretty happy with Blu-ray version.Oh really?
The DVD isn’t correct either, but it’s closer

Whoa! Nice find!
Could this mean that the first release (VHS only?) was definitely Cameron’s only “original vision” color-correction (as opposed to more, later revised, color-corrections)? It also begs the question … did any of those 1st, wrong VHS’s leak out into the market?
There is another great article from 1996 issue of ‘Widescreen Review’ on the subject of Aliens grain and color correction (JC forcing calibration on his own personal TV set). From all I’ve read on the subject so far it seems to me that we should be pretty happy with Blu-ray version. No one really remembers the quality of 35mm prints at the time of release and I doubt they were all the same. It’s like remembering how good VHS was until the DVD came along.

Shout do good releases? I have heard it all now!
They couldn’t compress a mattress
Went back and forth last night between the Sony native 4k and the unrated, and my god the pq on the unrated killed me with it being so dark.
I have the uncut on my sky Q box and both rips but the BD will be great as it will be a proper encode, but I bet region locked
It’s actually believed to be from okko, a Russian VOD and not a DCP.
Interesting, would explain the framerate issues
So, semi-related news: a 4K version of The Hateful Eight has leaked online. It’s reported as having a frame rate of 25fps, so it could be victim of PAL speedup. I’m don’t think it’s the longer cut, but I’ll report back soon with confirmation one way or the other.
After looking at screenshots of the 4K release, the colors on the 4K are much better (snow is white, for example). If it is indeed at 25fps and sped up, it might be worth slowing it down, even if it is just the regular cut (and it appears it is).
The FPS is fixed now, its a DCP rip
I can’t say I like the way that looks. Is is possible to go somewhere in between?
I don’t like it much either. I think I might recruit a few replacement shots from the bluray, where possible as an alternative.
So what is the point of regrading it in the first place?
We want it corrected don’t we?
Not just another version?
The color timing on this can’t be correct, it seems to indicate that the Nazi Party used red flags when it is historically known that their flags were actually bright orange.
lets see how much crow can be eaten over 4 forums
Will it be as much as the crap I had to put up with I wonderI’m curious to see if any of the staunch blu-ray defenders finally concede that it is not accurate. I spent a lot of time arguing myself and a ton of research. If you take the wowow and reduce saturation, it mostly resembles the 35mm. That is not the case with the blu, the color is fundamentally altered.
They won’t on any title
Why exactly aren’t you using the Blu-ray as a basis to be regraded? It should have better image and compression quality than the broadcast, doesn’t it?
Dnr
