TSmuxer/SEI error?
Time

OK so I was just able to reproduce the error. It *IS* definitely a problem in videoredo. It's not a problem with the master file.

I've uploaded both the original recording and the edit and the errors are introduced AFTER videoredo.

ORIGINAL: https://mega.co.nz/#!xRFXmLRD!4-wdDzBxGgOZB3zIJz4qjO22tmTgNL5D95M82CiSbs8
AFTER:https://mega.co.nz/#!kRVX3YhK!3eqneHgtAjFA7v0lkJKLkptgeoqiylo4T0oDfnmtq7A
And to see the (slight) jerkiness that I'm talking about, here's a smaller clip: https://mega.co.nz/#!xd9XhZqI!i7Jla3gWY83qmxnISZTg1z9Ucn9kHAAvOgyXYguq8Uw

And, to be clear, this has happened with various versions of VRD. It's not just one. The files that I initially noticed this on were recorded several years ago. The files I uploaded were recorded today.

TSmuxer/SEI error?
Time

I'm desperate for some help on this. I have about 60 files that are just sitting on my PC that I can't burn because of this error.

I'm having a ton of problems with some files that I have. They were originally captured with my Hauppauge HD PVR and then edited with VRD. Once I author my Blu-ray with MultiAVCHD, I get a files that "jump" (for lack of a better word) a second or two after they start. It's not huge but it's about 2-3 frames, I would say.
When I ran them through tsmuxer, I got an error that said "Bad SEI detected. SEI too short." If I select "Do Not Change SEI," it processes fine but the jump is still there.
Is there any way to fix this? Is re-encoding the only option? Since MultiAVChd uses tsmuxer to create the discs, this anomaly is there on all of them.
The odd thing is that I've done nothing different with these files than I normally do when recording. Is this something that VRD entered into the equation? Or is there any chance of it fixing it?

Here's an example of one of the files:

Was this 5.1 mix created from separate elements or is it just an up-mix from the 1.0?

I'm SURE it was just an up-mix, considering 1 & 2 were an upmix. I don't think they ever went back to the original stems, or had them available.

The AMC version was broadcast in 5.1, so I DO have a 5.1 track for all the extra scenes.  Unfortunately, the only 1080p rip I know of is also in stereo, hence my doing the entire thing in 720p and 5.1 for consistency.  I can make another thread if you think that'd be better, but there is a difference in my version and a preservation.  This version will not be exactly like the Saga or Trilogy edits.  It will place the Don Ciccio assassination where it belongs chronologically like in the Saga, and incorporate a few scenes exclusive to that version, but it will not contain the TV-style openings and closings of the parts of the Saga, and it will contain all the things edited out of the Saga that were in the theatrical versions.  I'm not doing this to "interest" people.  I'm doing it because I'd like it done.

Then why post about it? *shrug*

I don't want the lossless version, I just want to have an AC3 there for completeness and I've already got it, thanks to someone on the forum :-)

I also realized, that in v2.5 of SW, I had the '85 LD mix as well - was the '85 mix of ESB different in any way? Or in other words, is it worth searching for and including?

Ahh. Any reason why? I would have thought you'd want lossless versions of all the original mixes...especially if they were available from a HQ source like a laserdisc.

My edit won't be a proper preservation.  The films already exist in their theatrical versions, and the Saga as aired exists, too.  This is a cutting together of as much theatrical footage from the blu-ray as possible with the added scenes from the recent HD broadcast.  The whole point is to bring 1901-1980 up to 720p / 5.1 standards.  If I were trying to stick to original elements on everything, I'd just watch the laserdisc.

Well, theoretically, you could be preserving the entire thing is 1080p if you used the Blu-ray plus my recording. It wouldn't be that difficult. And you could use the 2.0 uncompressed track from the laserdisc.

Regardless, if you want to start a new project, you should start your own thread for it.

The only difference between what you want to do and a "preservation" would be the 5.1 track. Considering you don't have a 5.1 track for the additional scenes, I don't understand what your point is and you'd probably have LESS people interested. But...like I said...feel free to start your own thread.

Count me in as wanting a version that reinserts the HD extra footage of this broadcast into the uncensored footage of the theatrical cuts to recreate "The Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980".  I had this on Laserdisc and, IMHO, it's the best way to experience the films.  If no one is planning to do this, I'm contemplating buying a computer that will be up to the task (as the one I currently own is something of a dinosaur).  About the only thing that seems like it might be hard to deal with is the AMC watermark.  But I'd rather have a watermark on the extra footage than have it in 4:3 and in 2.0 like my previous reconstruction, sourced from the DVD set.

You realize that the first two movies were originally mono (aka 1.0) right? They should really be kept that way.

What? Well, v2.5 will probably be released eventually but not any time soon. First I want to do Jedi.

That's what confused me. The newsletter says:

NEWSLETTER said:

A 2.5 version is in the works that will become the final edition released for some time, just like Star Wars:DE 2.5 was polished, and then Harmy will move on to update ROTJ:DE to its eventual 2.5 release.

It will probably take a few days to get those out there since I'm currently out of town and don't have as good a connection as I normally do.  It's up to you if you want to wait for that, or have the AVCHD come out right away with the MKV slightly later . . .

:( Well, that sucks. :(

Oh well, I guess I could wait another week.

I think if Lucasfilm announced the OUT at Celebration the attendee nerd-gasms would last for a thousand generations!

I agree. Celebration could be a perfect time to announce it if it's something they're doing. If they do release the OUT I think it'll either be released Christmas 2014, or Fall 2015 at the latest. If they do decide on a later release date then Celebration would be a great time to announce it, especially since that audience would love something like that.

There's no way it's being released this year....if it happens.

I'm betting between Spring and Fall of next year...if it happens.

Help: looking for... 'Something Evil' - lost Spielberg film?

The film has shown on The Horror Channel in the UK quite a bit recently - it'll have a watermark on it, but is probably someone's best bet for a "clean", non-VHS copy.  There don't appear to be any airings lined up but it'll be worth keeping an eye out for one.

Thanks about that - yes, that's the best recording available so far but it's pretty bad. The source they use for the VERY rare broadcasts (we're counting one every 15 yearss and it's always a "forced mistake" when it's shown) is still the same VHS-like quality one as the one used for the (few) 70s/80s broadcasts. There are a couple of recordings of the film on the web but they're all rather bad - Spielberg really managed to bury this one almost completely.

Would love to know if anyone has a 35mm copy!!!
