Lord of the Rings - The Darth Rush Definitives (Released)
Time

The Saruman death scene was hard to decide upon. It gives somewhat proper closure but it’s done with such cheese and outlandishness. And it goes on for a full 5 minutes. It throws off the pacing immensely. And how the theatricals do it is actually pretty cool I think. At the end of two Towers, Saruman sees everything fail before him, his mistakes of cutting down the forest haunting him. He hides away in embarrassment, shame and utter defeat. Gandalf, with elegant mercy, leaves Saruman as he is, a broken, lost and defeated wizard who has lost all his power.

So yah, I’m pretty set on cutting the death of Saruman scene.

For FOTR, could I suggest that you also add the extended conversation between Gandalf and Frodo when they talk about Gollum, since it explains how Frodo knew Gollum’s original name was Smeagol in the Two Towers. And the extended Gifts scene because it does have some nice character moments and explains how Frodo and Sam were able to hide from the two guards in the Two Towers.

That is a good suggestion. I was halfway through rendering FOTR but I think I do agree with your first suggestion. And when it came to the gift scene, it took awhile for me to decide. But all in all, it was just way too long and the theatrical version still gives you the most important part of that scene. I’ll make sure to go back and edit in Gandalf telling Frodo gollums true name.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Here is the scenes I’m thinking of adding from the extended edition for Return of the King:

-Decline of Gondor scene of Gandalf telling Pippin about the decline Gondor has gone through. This takes place after they first meet denethor.
-Add the extended scene of denethors convo with Faramir where he sees a hallunication of Boromir behind Farmair and yells at Faramir about not bringing him the ring.
-add the extended scene of Pippin and Faramir talking together about how Pippins uniform used to be Faramirs.
-add Faramir saying ā€œI would gladly sacrifice my life for this cityā€.
-add the extra footage of Denethor and his servants carrying out Faramir to be burned.
-add the few extra action bits of Merry and Eowyn kicking ass.
-add houses of healing scene

I have a dilemma with Fellowship of the Ring which is that I simply cannot get these colors right for the extended. Kk650’s regrade is improved but still is far from the theatrical grading. And after applying the avisynth script of You_Too’s correction, it brings it closer to the theatrical but still doesn’t get the colors right.

With this in mind I chose to keep two scenes in Fellowhsip:

-The Extended ā€œConcerning Hobbitsā€ scene. From the get go, this was ALWAYS going to be included. I consider it essential.
-The Extended scene of the Fellowship Departing Rivendell. It really helps to give the film some breathing room before it gets back into action.

A friend of mine said he met Mayhew at a con and said he was a real jerk, which is contrary to everything I’ve ever heard before or since. Wonder why he’d lie about that? Or, if he wasn’t lying, I wonder what could’ve caused Mayhew’s bad day?

Actually it’s pretty much the case, he’s known from being grumpy at cons and not even saying hi to people who pay to see him. Not blaming him, I’m sure he meets more than enough of crazy fans and he has his health problems etc. but him and Anthony Daniels are maybe the ā€œworstā€ from the main cast. I’ve met Daniels and he was nice with me but he’s also literally made little girls cry.

Daniels does run his mouth too much sometimes. I recall last year when he called out Hammil on ā€œnot aging wellā€.

Yeah fuck people who have different opinions and life experiences from Frink. They all deserve his sarcastic verbal abuse.

Hahahahaha!

I just feel bad for people who grew up with ROTJ instead of ANH or ESB, which are vastly superior movies.

I feel much worse for anyone who grew up with the PT.

Don’t force down your opinions of the films to others. His opinion is equally valuable as yours. Respect his opinion. And if you disagree then just have a discussion as to why he likes it and why you don’t.

Info: The Dark Knight - EE Reduction and Original Color Timing

Due to school, work is proceeding at a much slower rate than I would like. The prologue scenes also take the longest to correct since other sources are being composited in. As of right now, roughly 4 minutes of the film have been color corrected and matched to the blu-ray framing.

I hope to get much more done during the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks of the school year. The prologue right now is almost identical to the BB_Prologue, save the framing has been changed. Once I have moved on and corrected some of the 35mm shots I will try to upload some comparison stills and clips.

Sounds awesome!!!

Arrival

Film Grade: 9/10

This film was simply excellent. Amy Adams gave an oscar worthy performance in my humble opinion. The score for the film had an impressive range that could hit the emotional beats yet still create enormous tension when required. The cinematography is beautiful and captivating. The plot is clever, thought provoking and impactful. One of the finest films of the year for myself.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread

Kristian Harloff tweeted that it is revealed someone in the Catalyst novel (who will obviously be in Rogue One) is Force Sensitive. All I hope is that character is not Jyn.

Do you watch the show he hosts? Collider Jedi Council? It’s awesome. I listen to it in podcast form on my iPhone. And on the topic of Jyn possibly being force sensitive, I would HATE it. Would bring down the movie a whole level for me. One of the big points Lucasfilm has said about Rogue One, is that it will be more grounded than any of the other Star Wars movies with no force users other than Darth Vader. This would really piss me off.

doubleofive is tech being updated in the way the death star plans were in a new hope etc. so maybe it could match the prequels i mean not everything in the prequels were bad just most of it 😦

Adywan will be downgrading the tech in the prequels.

One of the best things that Adywan will be implementing.
