Any chance of compressing the unupscaled video using whichever codec you're planning to use for the upscaled version to maximize bitrate and including the lossless audi track with it as well? Just thought I'd give it a shot, my BD player has a Marvel Qdeo processor so for me it'd be better to let the hardware handle the upscaling.

No, that is not what my project is, just stick with the V3 then.

As far as the picture quality goes, how much of an improvement you'll see over the dvd versions depends largely on how good your player is at de-interlacing and scaling.  Compared to lesser upconversion, the Blu set would be a significant advance; but something like the Silicon Optix HQV or ABT DVDO processing found in high end players and external sets might well be able to exceed it.

This is precisely why I have already said more than 1 time that this set is NOT for everyone, it is not only about the video, it is also about having all the LPCM audio that will not fit on DVD, this whole thing started out as an idea for myself only, but then I decided that I might share this with whomever is interested, also what turned me on to this is reading what jdobbs posts at doom9, but personally I do not care about the hardware upscale vs software upscale debate, the video is done and I am very happy with it, way more so than the V3 DVD, and to top that off with ALL the various forms of audio files, it just can't be any better, my opinion only ofcourse.

Just in case my menu partner falls through, does ANYONE here have any experience at all in BD menu creation?

Also, would anyone be interested in making up a Blu-ray cover set for this set, I have ideas but do not have the experience to make these myself, I wish I did.

Thanks

I can just imagine how extensive and difficult it would be to make even simple BD menu's. Whoever is helping you with these is probably just trying to do a good job but because of that it is taking a while? Is that what is going on?

I really don't know what is going on now, it has been a while since an update, I REALLY hope this guy comes through though, I have already seen samples, and they look fucking great!, He really knows hhis shit!, but I just need to have a fall back just in case, the thing is though, it is just not waiting for the Menu files only, once I have them, then I have to be able to figure out this software and replace dummy files with my real ones and author it out, I have the software up and running, but it is confusing as hell, but like anything when learning, once I get it once, I should be good to go, but I am all done on my end.

*edit - GREAT news! I just heard from my BD menu partner, no problem at all, just has some real life stuff going on, so he is doing just fine, have some stuff to start testing now.

They are all upscaled using Avisynth to 720p, and the main audio will be h_h's 5.1 in DTS-HD MA 5.1, but his DD 5.1 will also be on there, ALL audio on the V3 DVD's will be on the Blu with 1 exception, you will have the option to listen to the DD file or the LPCM file, and I may, and I said may, put the Wonderful Imperial Edition Score by ABC on the ESB BD25.

Edit - I just read your second question, no probably not, I really do not think that the video will improve much by this, all I wanted to do is have it better than the V3, and that is what I accomplished, the main thing to this release is that I can have ALL audio that I have been working on in this release.

OH, and I am not making NO AVCHD's, why limit yourself to a stinkin SL or DL DVD? it is time to move on and step it up to BD.

Are you creating a version for BD release? Noticed it was in the title.

What are you doing with it, compressing it less or something, upscaling it, including a lossless audio track?

All the above, after watching my test files, I can honestly say that the V3 DVD's can't touch these, these will sit nicely on the shelf next to the Saga Blu-ray Set when it is released.

Also, any news on the release of the blu's?

Still waiting on the person helping me with the menu's, all is done otherwise, just needing those files, but I did find out I am going to have to drop the bitrate a little, if I leave them at 16000 to 16500, they will go over the BD25 size limit, but I can re encode pretty fast.

DJ, you've done a lot of good for the OT over the years. Your tireless efforts have been a cornerstone of the community. You've showed patience, dedication and tireless resolve to get the job done and for that I thank you.

This particular release I regard to be your masterpice. I have just finished downloading all three and will continue to seed for the troops.

My comment was made in both haste and ignorance and I hope you'll accept my sincere apologies. Hopefully we can put that behind us and move on.

Thanks again for your efforts and congratulations on your masterpiece.

All is good dude, it is in the past now, let's just have fun, and move on.

No offense to anyone, I, personally, just don't frickin care.  I mean really?  Each person who does a transfer uses their own knowledge, the knowledge of others, and everything they have available to them to share something with everybody.

I appreciate what everyone has done regardless of how they saw fit to do it.  This is also the reason why I am hesitant to ever share an archive.  I started one and then realized all too soon that issues like these create far more tension than I'm willing to take on.

I know comparisons are bound to happen, we do it with all the different releases of the OT, why wouldn't fans have their work looked on any different...but at the fan level, it can be far more personal and it really makes this noob squeamish.

Thanks again for all those who take the plunge and offer up their work to this world of fans......cheers!!!!

:)

Sorry man but I really do not know what you are trying to say, but the whole don't frickin care gets me, so if you don't, why post?
