having stumbled upon this thread a month ago i think its time for my first post.

firstly hello to all !!! around a month ago i caved in and watched southland on sky movies, i had been keeping away from watching it as i wanted to import the blu ray ( still not available here in the UK ) and watch the film in the best available form. after watching it on sky, i imported the blu ray and watched it around a week later.......thats when it hit me, these cuts were totally different!! searching the net i stumbled across this forum and was very happy to see that someone managed to capture the HD feed. it was on sky yesterday and despite advertising the run time 138m, it was indeed the cannes cut - General Teena MacArthur scenes, hand chopping at the beginning, slightly more jon lovitz etc.

with the best my equipment could manage i recorded the film to my sky + box ( your equivalent of tivo ) and recorded it to a DVD-R. obviously this will not be as good as dark jedi's contribution, but it is a hell of an upgrade over the MP4 version. so if anything is to go wrong ( and i pray it doesn't ) with dark jedi's project then i have this copy to distribute......

First welcome to the board, and second,it is always nice to have a backup plan LOL,so definitely hang on to your version.

Yeah...using real names in these types of projects?  Never a good idea.  If in doubt, you probably should've defaulted with the screen name.  I've already gotten one Lucasfilm C & D letter.  I don't really need another one.

Personally, I'd rather go uncredited, than have my real name attached to this.  I appreciate the sentiment, but it's your project, Asteroid-Man.  I haven't been involved in this hardly at all.  The credit should go to you.

I am concerned though by the fact you said you integrated some of the clips we posted.  I don't have a problem with that at all...but those clips aren't in full-rez.  Don't you think it would be better to just sort of make your own approximation and interpretation of those clips rather than integrate unfinished wmv clips with inferior picture and sound quality into your edit?

I have to say, I'm baffled by the description of your process here (or lack thereof).  A couple weeks ago you were having trouble ripping the DVD's.  Now it's finished?  Forgive me, but as someone who knows how these types of things work, it just seems a little strange.

But, on the other hand, maybe you performed a miracle...time will tell.

I was thinking the exact same thing as you, well put InfoDroid.

Dark Jedi, I'd like to apologise for being rude in my previous posting here. It was uncalled for.

So do you accumulate random DVD's and cull the content on them to make your own discs? Sounds interesting to me and would be handy at times.

Not really "random" DVD's,I just know what I like, and if I see onther region has something I like I order it and convert so my friends and family can watch and enjoy them to,not all my friends and family have OPPO players.

For example,my family likes the House movies, but it appears all we got(here in the US) is part 1 & 2,and at least they are in 16:9 widescreen, but we don't have parts 3 & 4,so I got the Australian region 4 16:9 widescreen versions with DD 5.1 sond and converted to NTSC,now everyone is happy.

My Dad,Father In-Law and I really LOVE the Death Wish movies, but all we got were fullscreen versions of all but the first one, well the Australian region 4 DVD Boxset called The Vigilante Collection has ALL 5 movies in 16:9 widescreen and all uncut,so now I am making these ALL into NTSC DVD's.

and don't worry about that comment,I already responded to that along time ago,it is already forgotten LOL

O, I see, well seeing as I have no DVD9's i might be screwed. Few diffferent questions then

1. Where can I get a blank DVD9 and how much do they cost?

2. Will I be able to watch it in a normal DVD player or Xbox 360? (only 2 that we got)

3. Does a normal DVD version exist?

1. You can get blank Verbatim DVD9's at Best Buy.

2. This AVCHD Disc plays on Blu-ray players and PS3.

3. No

BTW, DARK JEDI:

I've probably already asked this, and I have the link to M0ther's PAL TO NTSC thread, but what programs do you use to make the conversion?  Do you simply follow his steps or do you use something that is a little less complicated?

You know, wouldn't it be nice if there was a program that all you had to do was click on the option "NTSC to PAL" or "PAL to NTSC" and click START and done?

No I do not copy anyone else's methods to the "T" I use a bunch of different programs and methods depending on what I am working on and trying to achieve,I like doing PAL2NTSC conversions, pretty much movie only though,do not have the patience to do the whole DVD,and I do alot of anamorphic conversions of DVD's not in 16:9,but if you really want t 1 click solution, which really does not do all that bad(but still not good enough for my tastes though LOL) ConvertXtoDVD is a pretty nice app. and it just keeps getting better with every update, can even add menu's.

Hell right now I am converting the Region 4 DVD's of House III and House IV to NTSC,these 2 were actually in 16:9 widescreen and DD 5.1,all we got was fullscreen crap.
But at least we got House and House 2 in widdescreen.

g-force, I'm running Jedi through v4 now - I think you might have to add a line in the subtitle section to deal specifically with Empire.  If you remember a while back when I ran ESB through v4 there was always an error; RotJ and ANH do not return an error, and that seems to be the only section that actually references the episode number, and coincidentally, the line only has specific instructions for a value of episode 4 or 6:

########## subtitle stage
episode==4 ? ANH(last,PAL) : episode==6 ? ROTJ(last,PAL) : Nop()

dark_jedi, do you get an error on Empire?  NO biggie, but what do you think?

Not on Empire yet,I am still trying to figure out the best approach on these, and I am also testing different encoders like CCE SP,ProCoder 3,etc.

OK so I have FINALLY got my new PC done and am taking a break from EVERYTHING else to do all 3 of these movies,I want to encode all 3 movies with G-force's script and replace the original video in the retail DVD's with this new video, while keeping the entire DVD structure and extra's.

but in my effort to get everything back the way it was,now I am hitting damn snags,I feel like a damn newbie again trying to fiddle fuk with these damn avisynth filters, well here is the error I am getting now, does anyone know what this means?
