STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

For the record, I too, have a cable connection and could seed a torrent for a while as needed.

Secondly, I think there might be something to the suggestion of using SkyDrive or Google Drive to distribute the files. This can easily be shared and SkyDrive has 25GB for legacy members like myself.

Another interesting note, for those without Blu-Ray burners, you can split a blu-ray disc at full quality onto multiple DVDs and still get full HD quality as long as you have a Blu-Ray player for your TV.

Here is some information on how to do this. I don't have a blu-ray burner so, this is how I plan to burn and watch the movie, while keeping the HD quality.

and we really appreciate that you remember that. Thanks!

Trust me, I had a small community access show with my friends and that was only around 30 minutes per episode. It took me getting to the studio 30 minutes to an hour early for setup, then the taping/production ran anywhere from 20-40 minutes at the studio, there were also pre-production meetings, production/taping of the fake commercials we made and then there was the editing.

I've also done Star Wars lightsaber rotoscoping and let me tell you, it is an evil and painfully slow process. If you are dealing in NTSC at 29.97 frames per second, that means you manually have to move/tween/tweak a lightsaber blade 30 times for every one second of video. That isn't even mentioning when the lines of the prop aren't clearly defined when in motion so it is harder to determine where the blade starts/stops. Then you also have masking for elements in front of the blade itself, which, if it is a person's hand or something small and moving, is also done frame by frame.

Now imagine you are tweaking a Star Wars movie, doing all of the above PLUS new models, CG mattes, working with imperfect source materials to which you don't have the original plates, etc. Yeah, that takes a BUTT LOAD of time.

So yeah, I know the work behind it and understand that real life might just get in the way of, or be more important than the slamming your brain against the wall that the project can be sometimes. Sometimes, you just need a break from the work.

I think it is "meant" to be May but, again, who knows. There are technical things that could happen, delays, and , considering it is being made by volunteers, their everyday lives are a consideration too.

Personally, I am hoping for May 23rd (That's my Birthday) but, don't really care when it comes out, as long as it comes out.

I am looking forward to seeing ESB:R completed, no doubt. What I am really interested in seeing though, is what Ady's Revisits of the PT is going to be like.

Sure, I like the OT better than PT, don't get me wrong. Yes, I definitely want to see ESB:R and ROTJ:R completed so I can enjoy them with my family. However, to see the PT re-envisioned and hopefully brought closer into the feeling and vision of the OT by Ady just gives me such a feeling of hope.

Honestly, the only reason I will be buying the Blu-Ray of the OT and eventually the Blu-Ray of the PT is so I can legitimately watch the new Revisits.

I already owned the 97 re-release of OT on DVD so, I could get the ANH:R with no problems.

But, the PT and tweaks done to OT by Lucas kind of de-inspired be from wanting to buy the newer versions. Well, that and I don't currently have a HDTV so, no blu-ray. However, my 27" died the other day so, will be budgeting for a new 32" HD LED LCD and a blu-ray player in the near future.

Hey, for those who are "in the know" so to speak, I'm just curious about something. In the ESB revisit, how many effect shots have been re-done/enhanced with new models, new people, etc? Basically, how much "new" footage has been needed to correct the mistakes of old and/or to enhance existing scenes?

Personally, I have always been interested in videography but, just don't have much time/money to pursue it anymore.

I'm sorry, but this isn't a preservation. Ady doesn't need to go with the original colors. He can go with whatever colors he wants. This is his fan-edit.

Um, dude, I said that. I also understand it isn't a restoration. I was however, pointing out that from the Grey vs. Blue argument point of view that it is hard to determine what color(s) to use as there is no "pure" source.

I also stated multiple times that it was Ady's edit and I have faith in his coloration choices on it.

(how is it that I went from thinking Grev vs. blue arguments were stupid and now I am fully involved in one. What a hypocrite I am. Oh well, all is fair in love and Star Wars I guess...)

I can't agree more. You can't just go with how the model looks under florescent lighting. The color will completely be off compared to the way it looks compared to how it looks on set.

The film degradation thing never occurred to me. So the question is, because film degrades over time, wouldn't that mean even scans of a 9 or 35 mm print be faded or mis-colored? Then, we would have to go off either VHS tapes of Star Wars off Fox from the 80s but, those also degrade over time and tend to have poor image quality. Then that brings us to the '97 SE versions which are horribly "color corrected".

So how do we really come down to the "real" colors of the film. Basically, it is a best guess depending upon memory and personal taste. I mean, to me personally, I'd say that clearly we can't go with the "intent" of Lucas on this because according to him, the "revised" versions are the way he "meant" them to be so, he is happy with that.

My first exposure to the original films was on VHS via the Fox broadcast so, I tend to be more partial to those levels of coloration. But, if something could be tweaked to be made more "ideal" I would be OK with it.

However, at the end of the day the color interpretation on this project will end up being Ady's choice. I am just hoping for colors that do justice to the films and end up flowing with them. I don't want cyan/hot blue TIE fighters or a neon green Yoda, which I know Ady wouldn't ever do.

My feeling on Yoda is that Ady has hit that one right on the head. However, the TIEs appear to be up to some debate still. My opinion on them is go grey with a slight blue tint but, not enough to be overpowering. But, again, that is my opinion.

I remember something in the documentaries for the SE that Jim Henson was consulted on the Yoda puppet but, in terms of the actual puppet itself, Yoda is not a Muppet. The clearest way you can tell is because Yoda doesn't have a foam-ball nose or sing songs and dance.

Also, I don't know of many Muppets with a latex skin. They tend to have fleece or felt.

One of the GeekDads was at ILM this week and got this picture. Definitely obviously blue. I believe Ady is going to attempt the blue the fighters in ANHRHD.

Definitely blue in the model. However, depending on the lighting and the way in which said model was shot, the blue could come out to be more of a bluish-grey rather than the extremely bright hue when you see the model in florescent lighting. If I saw that on the screen, it would, as others mentioned, look like a toy.

However, they move so fast it can be hard to catch/tell except under certain conditions.

Which again, brings me to my opinion on it. It needs to have enough blue not to be a bland grey but, not so much blue that it looks un-natural and detracts from other elements in the shot.

I think that if they are blue to the point of being distracting or washing out the color of other elements, it becomes a problem. However, if it is just a slight tint, I have no problem with it.

For the record, they wouldn't have to be "painted" blue, could just be they changed to a different metal type that had a blue tint or something.

But, that is just me being stupid and funny anyway. I know the real technical reasons for the changes in the movies but, like tossing around stupid ideas...it's fun.

Perhaps many 'new recruits' were just 'drafted' by 'the Empire' without a say in the matter?...

...and if that was Palpatine's method to strengthen his reach, then shiny blue makeovers wouldn't have been used to bring them on board in the first place... ;)

I'm not 100% sure there still wouldn't be volunteers. I mean, at the end of ROTS the senate seemed to support the idea of forming into the Empire, which means that it could be possible that their Systems and the inhabitants thereof, might also have been initially supportive.

(Gosh I love speculations like this having to do with a time and place so far away from our own)

LOL

Come join the Imperial Navy and fly the latest model Twin Ion Engine fighter! This new, updated model, is tinted blue, which catches the eye of the enemy's peripheral vision so they don't focus on the ship right behind them!

The Empire's new color scheme combat method needs YOU!

LOL!

You're right, it does sound kind of dumb. I never said I had a GOOD imagination though.

Unlike the whole "red AT-AT windows and green AT-AT laser thing", the work on making the TIEs grey has already been done. It would be nice to at least have the option of a grey TIE version if it comes to it.

My biggest issue is mainly maintaining continuity with ANH. While I personally love the visual aspect better, I would rather have continuity continue than retcon ANH.

Even so, I've more than made my piece, so I will leave the "grey versus blue" debate and give the floor to someone else.

I think that it might be better to fit the intent of the original models used in this case. Just my opinion. However, I also understand the continuity thing with ANH.

Maybe, just maybe, we could postulate that the empire decided to add some blue paint/metal to the TIE fighters in order to make them more appealing for new recruits. I mean, there is nothing to say that ONLY clones could be pilots and that the empire didn't take on additional recruits. After all, which would you rather drive, a pure grey car or a bluish grey car if you had the choice?

I don't what the real story in the EU is for the change but, I like using my imagination. :)

Ctlw83: that's the whole point of a debate. To simply say it's Ady's edit is just like saying it's Lucas' film.

Can I debate the debate on debating? Is that still within limits, or is that one debate too many? :-P

Joking aside, I completely understand the debates and the desire to make this the best fan-edit it can possibly be, while still remaining largely true to Ady's vision for it.

I only wish I had the skills to contribute something more than witty forum banter and moral support. I do have Premiere elements but, not After Effects or anything that would be able to complete the necessary type of work for a project like this.

I never said it wasn't relevant per se, just find it interesting that the debate on blue vs grey is still going on after 4 years. :-)

I just found it amusing trying to get through the beginning of this thread, that's all. Not really knocking things, just found it kind of crazy with some of the debates that went on.

But, again, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Hence why I amended my original post to reflect that I understand the reasons people have different opinions :-)

OK,

I made the mistake of trying to start at the beginning of this thread and work my way forward. I got through about 53 pages at 100 per page and decided to give up.

I just have the following observation to make

Debates going on way too long in this thread: (some still ongoing from looking at the recent history)

TIE Fighter Color
Red AT-AT Window
AT-AT Laser Color
Boba Fett Voice
Vader Shuttle from Bespin
Wampa scenes
Tan-Tan ears

I'm sure there are others but, I can't BELIEVE how much bickering goes on about this stuff...LOL. Don't get me wrong, I understand the reasons but, in my opinion it is Ady's edit and being that I was so pleased with the first one, I am not about to impose a purist, SE or PT view upon his work.

I also see all the help everyone has provided in finding additional errors to correct and in providing feedback in order to help him to make the project even better.

There was also the tremendous amount of support from people when he lost family members close to him. (There were some real jerks too but, they were warded off)

I also loved the fact that in 2008 when Ady started this, he seemed to be all like "oh, there are just some color corrections and such, I won't be tweaking much, this will be like 7-8 months max". Man how time flies and projects change...
