Yes.

Yes.
Great article, zombie84. Even if there are still legal hurdles ahead in terms of what can be done with the hi-def preservations, at least the OT will be preserved, which is a huge step.
As far as I'm concerned, the real mystery surrounding Bob Ross is how he managed to sport that afro.

I believe you're looking for the "The Apathy Thread"... I'll post a link to it later.

By the third fast-forward I was smiling, and on the fourth I actually laughed out loud. Perfectly executed gag, Frink :)
Great job, Harmy! The only thing I noticed is that, around the 9 second mark, there seems to be some "bleeding" over the edge of the archway (it looks like the blue from the sky overlaps the stone). It's fairly inconspicuous, however, and if nothing can be done about it, I'm still happy to see this project one step closer to the original version.
My hat's off to you for all your hard work and achievements on this preservation.
Well, I watched the Blu V2 teaser a couple times now. I realize I'm likely in the minority thinking this, but I find the image overly grainy/noisy. Compared with the V3 DVD, the picture actually looks less clear in the Blu version. I know an attempt was made to preserve as much detail as possible, and that no one is a fan of waxy-looking surfaces as a result of too much denoising, but I feel the picture quality could benefit from a little 'cleaning up' or 'smoothing out'. It feels at times that I'm watching the movie through a filter (if that makes any sense).
My apologies for sounding critical. I've been following this project for a long time and am very appreciative of the tremendous effort that has gone into this preservation. I just wanted to know if the image quality of the teaser will be reflective of the final product and, if so, if the level of grain/noise (sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology here) is likely to remain as is.
Just wanted to know what DJ's and You_Too's -- and others' -- thoughts were on this issue.
Harmy, I was just watching wp3r1 again today, and noticed that in a couple of shots, Tatooine's atmosphere looks a little too pronounced (compared to what I'm used to seeing, at any rate). Should the blue strip of atmosphere be a bit darker? Top image is from the work print, bottom has Tatooine darkened by 20%.
Overall, I'm loving the first two reels... excellent work. I can't wait to see the next ones.
Great clip Frink :) That was an excellent choice for the conversation... you really synched it up well.
And I second DominicCobb's suggestion.
Fileserve is another possibility. Decent speeds and no file size limits, unless I'm mistaken.
But I would have to agree with Stiletto -- newsgroups, although you have to pay for them, seem like one of the better ways to go these days. Adywan released the DVD9 of SW:Revisited that way and I have to say it was a pretty easy, quick, and painless way of doing it.
I've had trouble with the captcha a couple times in the past (with it not recognizing my validation code), but once it starts downloading it's always been good for me. Are you sure your internet connection isn't crapping out on you?

I'm sure that this shot was like this in the original, but it just looks really out of place.
The scenes before and after it, the sky is a nice blue, but this closeup it is very red. If it was supposed to be like that as per the original, that's fine by me, just is a bit off to me.
It's things like this that make me so happy preservations like this and DJ's are around -- it's scary to see people already forgetting (or never even knowing) what the originals looked like.

My server hates Uloz and it'll be a long time until I get WP part 2. Can anybody post a cap of the binary sunset? Please?
That sunset scene is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait 'til my download is done and I can watch it.
Cool! I'm looking forward to those 19 minutes of Project Blu goodness.
It's really quite scary how well Krusty's voice over works with Jar Jar... and how it's actually an improvement.
Great news DJ. I hope things continue to go well.

I tried that but it's impossible to track properly, especially when the camera starts moving and things start changing perspective.
But you know what? I'll give it another shot!
You da man for even trying it again, Harmy! :)
Do a custom matte to fix the recoloured SE sky in the background when Luke sells his speeder?
If possible, I think every time the scene cuts to Obi-Wan drinking his Romulan ale, an additional empty shot glass (or two or three) should be added to the bar.
I've loved the movie ever since childhood. I think it's accessible to a wide audience while still retaining the feeling that you're stepping into another world with a rich history (kind of like a light version of Dune or Lord of the Rings).
The music is pretty cool too, and you can't beat the Garthim for scary-ass bad guys.
I wonder how well the planned sequel will turn out.

Let's get real, this movie is never actually going to see the light of day, will it :-\
Yay! Way to be optimistic.
Nice first post, by the way.
I know you said you're waiting on more reference frames Harmy, but are the Death Star's walls in that first Despecialized Edition v2.0 shot likely to stay that colour? Just curious, as they really seem too cyan, especially compared to the GOUT and the other DeEd shots.
As for the blaster bolts, though... fan-freaking-tastic! Did you do the same thing for all the blaster bolts in the opening Blockade Runner shootout?
Some pretty funny editing, Frink. Just a suggestion, though: isn't there a deleted scene of Anakin slipping and falling when he runs out of Padme's room? I think it would make a good inclusion.
I agree, Lynch's Dune is not perfect in terms of its visuals. Baron Harkonnen is a good example: having the character fly through the air on little jetpacks was a ridiculous departure from the novel. Also, the characters' personal shields, while kind of cool in the film, were not depicted as described in the novel (as sort of a crackly, skin-tight electrical field, if I remember correctly). However, elements such as the stillsuits, the sandworms, and the overall medieval look to the film was exactly what I had imagined while reading.
That being said, the Guild Navigator in Lynch's Dune, while a departure from how they are described in the novel, was a very cool interpretation, so I agree that some "creative interpretation" can be a good thing.
