Random Thoughts

There was plenty of derision and mockery about God in the Religion Thread, but it stayed in the Religion Thread. This spilling of it out into the rest of Off Topic is bothering me because I can’t purposefully avoid it when it pops up in random places.

That is, people can believe what they want to believe, but derision about something to which I believe as strongly as I do is annoying when it’s not compartmentalized to a space where it belongs.

Last web series/tv show seen
Time

I also watched the first 3 episodes of Lost in Space this weekend. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I’d only seen snippets of the old school TV show, but never cared for it. I don’t care for camp. Star Trek, while campy in its own right, was at least mostly serious.

This new series, I keep comparing to the 90’s film. The film was a decent popcorn flick, but this show actually is interesting. I like the characters, but I wish they didn’t write the Dad as one of those he’s-never-there types. Also, the “Dr. Smith” character is much more interesting in this series, despite my comparative liking for Gary Oldman as an actor. She’s much more creepy and sinister as a criminal with no concience, while Oldman’s Smith was simply evil because he liked being evil.

It’s good. I think I’ll keep watching it.

JEDIT: Also, I’ve heard a number of people say the Robot looks like a Geth. I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s true. And that just gets me more interested.

Video of the shooting:

The more I think about this, the more my heart hurts for this family. Killed by a police officer, who is apparently protected by the rest of the Justice Department, simply for backing a vehicle into the driveway after opening the garage door.

It hurts me so much to think what this father must be feeling, and how empty anything that can be done must be.

Perhaps an individual sasquatch pops up occasionally via time travel.

It would make sense that no one could find sasquatch if it/they had a TARDIS with a properly functional chameleon circuit.

JEDIT: Now I’m thinking of different sci-fi scenarios involving sasquatch.

  • They are from a parallel dimension trying to get home.
  • They’re criminals from the future who escaped into the past, but a cop was sent back to find them and bring them back.
  • A scientist from the future randomly leaps into the bodies of primates from his past to change their destinies.
  • Marty McFly went back in time and encountered his ancestors, culminating in a horrible accident at the local zoo. Now saquatch-Marty has to figure out how to repair the timeline.

And I don’t see how the Wii U isn’t that.

You’re saying the WiiU has perfect controller design?

He was referring the ability to link a GC controller to the Wii U.

The reason you can do that in a Wii is because the Wii also has GameCube parts in it, so when it emulates a GameCube, it’s hardware emulation. Same with the WiiU. Wii Mode on the WiiU is hardware emulation of the Wii, meaning the GameCube controller does not function on the WiiU like it does for the Wii because the WiiU wasn’t designed specifically for that function. Plus, when you plug a GameCube controller in for use on the WiiU, you plug it into a Wii Remote, not the console. It’s not really equivalent.

sasquatch

Okay, wait. If there is one sasquatch, there will be many sasquatch. There will be, or will have been, enough sasquatch to sustain the species for at least some period of time. There is not just one singular sasquatch (or Loch Ness monster for that matter) that is hundreds of years old.

Unless they are Sith Sasquatch and there can always only be two.

The Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling console in US history, outselling even the Wii. I find this very hard to believe, given people were in hysterics over the Wii, but it’s true.

Switch is legit. It’s the only console I own.

I’m not sure that says as much about Switch as it does about you.

Not sure what you’re implying.

Anyway, I meant the only modern console I own. Everything else is retro.

Umm… that you’re a pleb. 😄

No, I’m kidding. I was saying that if you only ever had the one console, that says more that you don’t play games than that the Switch is awesome enough that even you will buy it.

But since you say you meant it’s the only console between the current generation, I’ll take that. I don’t have a PS4 or XBone either and I have no interest in them. Being able to take Skyrim, Doom, and Zelda anywhere all the time, then switch back to using a TV on the fly… that’s amazing.

I’m a hardcore Nintendo fan, but I hated the Wii U. Just 20 seconds playing Nintendo Land in the store where you have to look at the Gamepad to aim, when the action is happening on the TV but you can’t focus on both, plus how clunky the Gamepad was and had horrible battery life.

And then it also had no first-party titles I cared enough about to buy it.

I want Nintendo to make a direct stylistic sequel to the GameCube called the Game³. Like an upgraded GameCube with stronger hardware and modern capabilities, but still retaining the sleek design sensibility and perfect controller design.

I think they called it the Wii U.

No. The Wii U is nothing like the GameCube. It’s a direct sequel to the Wii, hence the use of that name. Only it’s really a beast of its own even then.

I think Handman was making a joke. Something like how the ³ suggests the third console generation following the GameCube itself.

No. The Wii U is nothing like the GameCube.

It sold terribly; had a great lineup of games, although not many due to limited third party support; had the ability to use a second screen as a controller, introducing unique gameplay that was ultimately underutilized; had neat cover art; and had the best controller for Smash Bros ever.

Or that. But the N64 didn’t do well either.

You’re one for telling me to let it go, when you can’t stop bringing up that single post I made.

And it was a movie reference.

Only because YOU…

No excuse. You can’t let it go. It doesn’t matter what I do.

You’re also the one who assumes I have a chip on my shoulder, when I was merely making a point.

And it was a movie reference. Patrick Swayze’s character in Road House was a bouncer at a bar, and was infamous for at one point ripping some guy’s throat out; which he again repeated later in the film.
