Okay, I’ve played plenty of Breath of the Wild by now and…wait for it… I can’t say it’s my favorite Zelda game.

It’s sooo different from the other games. I know people who complain about previous 3D Zeldas being too formulaic, but because this Zelda game so different in style, scope, and difficulty, et al., that comparing Breath of the Wild to Twilight Princess or Wind Waker is almost completely unfair. It’s almost a completely different genre of game.

Speaking of Zelda I’ve been playing Majoras Mask (n64 version but in high resolution and with enhanced texture packs via project64) and man that game is a work of art. Really puts you in a mood. The song of healing has such a magical feeling I almost feel like my own sorrows and (mental) problems melt away when I hear it.

I love the Zelda franchise a lot, but I never liked Majora’s Mask very much compared to the other 3D Zeldas. It’s a great game in its own right, but I find it to be disturbingly dark. Being that collecting all of the masks is the only way to tell all of the story, I also feel like the game forces me to use a guide in order to play it as intended. Essentially, you have to be in the right places at the right times and in the right order, and in doing so there’s a lot of hurry-up-and-wait.

So I ordered a Switch from GameStop, and just received it and a copy of Zelda: Breath of the Wild two days ago.
…and BOY HOWDY is it amazing.

I ordered a bundle that came with Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and ARMS; and I took the unopened physical copies to the store and exchanged them for digital codes. It’s my thing: I really like not swapping physical media if I don’t need to and I’ve been that way for at least 15 years.

I like how I’m the jerk even though you’re the one trivializing people who have actual real problems, as opposed to being annoyed by an acronym.

As though /everyone/ does not have actual real problems, and that if someone is annoyed by something fairly trivial it gives you grounds to be rude. Plus, wishing that a community had a way to identify themselves that was easier to say and not ever-changing does not trivialize or marginalize them.

Hahaha, I didn’t realize showing compassion for people who have difficulties is considered an elitist attitude. I’ll try harder to be more mean going forward.

You’re not showing compassion for people who have difficulties. You’re being an ass. Your comments here have zero effect on improving any issues they may have.

I’ll bet the people who those acronyms apply to sure wish having to “deal” with an acronym was the biggest problem they had to deal with. Seriously, get over it.

Or you could try not being a jerk just because I voiced an opinion, whether it’s a trivial issue or not.

Also, lol at the idea that you don’t agree with gender fluidity as a concept. I don’t agree with you as a concept but presumably you’re a real person anyway.

You know… I’m a moderate Democrat, but I’m beginning to understand how some people on the right might say they feel that people on the left have an elitist attitude when they encounter opposing views. Go pull the stick out, please.

Accurate terminology is important–for example, calling everyone under the LGBTQIA umbrella “gay” would be pretty dismissive/marginalizing to those who aren’t gay.

I disagree. Language is fluid and words mean what society wants them to mean. If a society wants to change a word’s meaning, then it changes. There can be an “umbrella” word to encompass the whole umbrella without having to explicitly enumerate each individual sect within it. Other minority groups in society don’t have to do this. I mean, what if the Native American tribes wanted to be known under the umbrella of combining the first letter of every tribe? The term “Native American” does not inherently marginalize the Cherokee or the Osage tribes.

I’m sorry, but I really feel that to be offended or feel marginalized simply because a community’s acronym doesn’t explicitly include one’s flavor of eccentricity–that, to me really is indicative of one who is highly-oversensitive.

Queer is the Q in LGBTQ. There’s also the chant “We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it.” The word is used within the LGBTQ community as a catch-all umbrella term for any gender nonconformity–including LGBT, but also things that don’t quite fit neatly into those categories. Like all reclaimed pejorative terms, the meaning changes significantly depending on the context, and can present outsiders with some anxiety about when it’s okay to use it. For example, it also still gets yelled at LGBTQ-perceived people in a threatening manner (the pejorative usage). So if you’re not sure you’re using the word correctly, it’s probably best to steer clear. But the headline seems fine to me.

I really hate this LGBTQIA-EIEIO business. I wish they would just use the word “gay” and have done with it. Sheesh.

Seriously. The gay community doesn’t have to use the whole dang alphabet.

You may be right but it wasn’t jarring at all so I didn’t notice.

It’s not jarring /to you/.
My first thought when seeing that font was that the same font used to appear in Hal’s “9000 series” prequel edits. (Given the G in “The Approaching Storm” or the Y in “Labyrinth of Evil”) but he has since replaced that font with the correct one in more recent versions.

I prefer Opera for mobile.

Lol.

I don’t get it.

I haven’t heard of anybody using Opera in years.

https://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2&qpcustomd=0

I tried Opera recently. I don’t like how Opera for Android can’t globally have its password manager disabled; and Opera for Windows doesn’t have the option to automatically open documents that are linked to instead of merely saving them to disk. Also, Opera for Android has extra integrated social and news tabs that I don’t feel the need to use.

Outside of those things, Opera also doesn’t do anything additionally for me that Firefox doesn’t already do.

Yeah dahmage has it. I actually got into computers back when the whole point of computers was to avoid dealing with people. That was the draw. Now we’ve got all this awesome tech and people just waste it on communication.

And yet you visit OT.com to communicate with people.

Smartphones aren’t phones first with added internet. They’re small tablet computers with phone apps. The amount of social interaction you achieve with it is wholly dependent on your use case.

I, conversely, have a Moto Z Play phablet with a 5.5" screen. I don’t use it to communicate so much as for for shopping online or accessing my media server.

Okay, I’m gonna raise my hand now. I don’t have a smart phone. I don’t have a flip phone. I don’t have a cordless phone. I have a phone at home with a wire that goes into the wall. I also have a phone at work with a wire that goes into the wall. That covers every possible phone scenario for me. Either I’m at work and can talk to you on the phone, I’m at home and can talk to you on the phone, or I’m at neither place and have no interest in talking to you on the phone, so leave a message.

Want to text me? Too bad for you. If it’s not important enough for you to make the call, it wasn’t important enough for me to read anyway. For Internet I got a laptop, but the Internet’s not really necessary.

Now, all of you, off my lawn.

For receiving texts, you could create a Google Voice account. Your could even have it forward text/voice messages to your email.

One major reason why I keep coming back to Firefox is its add-on integration with LastPass (my password vault). Chrome for Android doesn’t let LastPass autofill; and Opera for Android doesn’t have an option to disable Opera’s built-in password manager. Also, Chrome for PC annoyingly disables addons that aren’t downloaded from the Chrome Web store.

Among other reasons.

Firefox basically does what I want it to and doesn’t complain about third party addons.

I use Firefox. I’ve used Firefox for a long time, and I use it on Android and on PC. I switch to other browsers now and then to see if they’re better, but I always switch back because FF does something that Chrome or Opera or IE/Edge can’t.

What browser do you use on mobile and/or desktop? Why do you prefer it over something else?

thought this was interesting - have seen a couple of Mayors of US cities say similar things…

https://www.wired.com/2017/05/cities-cant-sign-treaties-can-still-fight-climate-change

Yeah, I read an article somewhere that said the industry is still likely going forward in support of renewable energy/going green because it’s expensive to change from one system to another; there is expectation that future policy will force the regulations anyway; and so to do it now allows for a gradual switch over instead of the enormous expense of meeting a sudden and abrupt deadline.

Also, I did once listen to an NPR segment about vinyl, and how encoding on vinyl is inherently superior because digital reproduction of an analog wavelength by its very nature removes information.

That argument is BS, by the way.

https://wiki.xiph.org/Videos/Digital_Show_and_Tell

Which argument? That analog-to-analog is better; or that FLAC would make for a reasonable lossless copy?

The former.

I didn’t claim to be an expert. I just said I heard a segment on the subject, and they claimed that was why vinyl is actually better than CD. That article you linked is a bit tl;dr for me in refuting it.

you probably misunderstood the segment because it was a digital broadcast.

Hey, I still have music encoded as MP3 @ ~192k VBR from back in the day when file size mattered. And I’ve RECENTLY ripped my entire Audible library to MP3 VBR -q8 (because I have a lot of them and Plex doesn’t support m4b yet. Plus I hate Apple so nevermind iTunes support.) I’m no audiophile.

For the record, I rip to digital for everything when at all possible. Even moreso than I used to since I started a Plex Media Server. Media servers are definitely not hipster.
