Hey...apparently...I'm a bit late to this game.

I'm thinking about downloading this based on what I saw in a You Tube trailer...but can someone upload the REVISITED trailers? I'd love to see them before I download this thing.

So far I'm quite impressed.

Don't bother with the trailers. Just download it. Trust me... you WILL be even more impressed. This edit is nothing short of amazing.

Confirmed. Adywan this is the first time I watched this on my 55 inch Hitachi Plasma. You are too much my friend. Thanks for this. Why Lucasfilm isn't snatching you up and paying you so much money that the idea of leaving your home and coming over seas to live 25 miles away from me doesn't even phase you I have no idea.

I think negative1's moniker is appropo for this discussion. I don't know what he's doing wrong but he shouldn't be downloading from usenet that slow. Methinks we have a case of operator error in our midst. I always max out my 10mbit connection while downloading. Anyone who follows my instructions earlier in this thread wil bear me out.

Now as far as the flipper goes... I want to see the adywan flipper edition uploaded to usenet please. Just ruins the whole experience for me to see a severed terrestrial limb lying there.. :)

i used the ripped png's from behind the magic that someone posted a while back (can't remember who did this rip, sorry)
To be honest i have deleted the adobe after effects project file so i can't remember the exact way i did it. I'm pretty sure that i opened the pngs in virtualdubmod and saved them as a 29fps avi. then imported it into after effects. changed the composition framerate to 25fps (there was a reason i didn't make it 24). changed the length of the avi to match the exact length of the audio using the time stretch function. I set the "frame blending" to "pixel motion" and rendered it. It did cause a few artefacts during fast motion but it did work at smoothing out the motion. With extra work (which i couldn't be bothered to do cleaning up all the frames) you can mask out the problem areas and create a smooth motion copy. Like i said i haven't got the project file to check that this was the exact way but i'm pretty sure it was.

Onto the subject of newsgroups well i find them as easy as torrents but hell of a lot faster. i use giganews and can download a DVD-5 in about 1hr 30mins on an 8mb connection. It have the unlimited account which costs about £12 per month but there are cheaper providers out there. If you compare how long it takes to get a DVD from usenet compared to the crawl it takes for a torrent it is worth investing in a usenet account because you would probably be using that much electric with having to have your pc on so long to get the torrent downloaded.

It is as easy as torrent too. once you have set up your newsreader, which with something like newzbinpro is really easy because all you have to do is enter your username & password and your done. you can then load up the groups you want easily but this isn't necessary to get the posts you want. took me 2 minutes when i first used it to get all set up and running.

All you have to do is use the binsearch site. you do a search and it lists all the files available. once you have found the release you just tick the box by the side of it (usually a complete release has already been grouped together) and create an nzb file. this is the same as having a torrent file because it contains all the info your reader needs to download the files . then open your nzb file in your newsreader, tell it where to download the files to and your done. Easy. i can't really see anything harder in using newsgroups. its faster, you don't have to upload anything which gives you your maximum download speed. people moaning that they can't have a credit card so they can't use usenet need to do some searching on the internet. Pay as you go credit cards are widely available and anyone can get one. some charge you a monthly fee but free ones are available, you just need to shop around. And i guess that the ones moaning about having to pay a few pounds(or dollars) each month for good access but use torrents regularly can't be paying for their electric bill. I know for a fact that mine certainly went down each month once i stopped using torrents and switched to usenet. Plus usenet isn't throttled by most ISP's the way torrents are or at least not as much so you usually always get your full download speed. And most ISP's have their own usenet access but don't have the good retention as a proper service, so you wouldn't even have to pay for it.

I actually recommend alt.binz for downloading usenet binaries. It downloads the binaries and decodes them just like others BUT it also PAR checks AND unrar's the files for you too. Most of the time I just click on a nzb download from http://v3.newzbin.com and that's it. It opens altbinz, downloads all the files, decodes them, par checks them, and unrars them automatically. I just come back after it's done and get my DVD, AVI, MP3's, or what ever else I got. It's fricken' cool! Altbinz is free. It even has a search function built in. Did I mention that it's cool?

I forgot to mention there is some set up. You have to click your mouse a few times and move that curser thing around to set it up. You may even have to type things in at first like login names and passwords. But after all that grueling work it is effortless. If anyone is really interested I will write a tutorial on how to set up Alt.Binz for downloading.

*EDIT* I changed this picture. I got the original from the newzbin site which shows some horrible pirate downloading illegaly obtained softeware! Here is a screen shot from my very own setup downloading something much, much better. Note the top left. Shows that I will download this DVD9 in 1hour and 52 minutes. This could never be done with a torrent.

newsgroups:
---------------------------------
- hard to set up, HUGE LEARNING CURVE for newcomers
- hard to get access (credit hassle, etc if you want to subscribe)
+ might be faster if you have a good connection

-hard to set up IF YOU ARE AN ORANGUTAN who can't follow directions
-hard to get access if you can't do some simple web searching
+ might be faster if you have a good connection.... or if anyone happens to be seeding your niche torrent.... most definitely faster if they aren't

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

public torrents are slow UNLESS many peeps are seeding... Which ain't gonna happen for this particular torrent. As far as credit hassle. Yeah if you are living in a cave and can't get a check card like the rest of humanity for your checking account. I think 3 bucks over at newshosting.com is more than worth the money for this fine edit.

I am seeding the torrent for the iPod version of this so I don't have a problem with torrents except I have to leave my torrent software on and my upload bandwidth is being used up so I can't do any gaming.... wait... I HATE TORRENTS!

I decided to pay for RapidShare to get the DVD9 version. The 48 hour subscription worked out to about $7 US. The 1 month works out to about $11.

On a cable modem, doing 4 files at a time, I got the whole thing in about 6 hours. When I got the DVD5 version, I did it for free (one file at a time, 2 hour downtime between them) and it took me a full week of after work periods and almost whole weekend days morning to night.

HEYZEUS MAN! It would take less time and money to just get past the fright of learning something new and getting it from usenet. I understand though. Before I understood it seemed very daunting. Now I can't even imagine what my problem was.

The iPod m4v file is .99 GB. It will take what it takes to get it to you since it seems I'm the only one seeding it right now. If others would help seed you will get it faster. Congrats on setting up a torrent program. "Necessity is the the mother of invention" and all that. It won't hurt your computer to leave it on.

I don't know why I can't do torrents. It downloaded in like a second, I tried to open it, but my computer had to go online to look for software to use to open it. It found none. :-/
Your first clue is "My computer had to go online to look for software to use to open it". You need torrent software to download files using torrents. :)
DOWNLOAD UTORRENT

This is extremely easy to use software and it's free. This does not have to be installed. Just run it from your desktop or where ever you would like.

Ugh... my computer can't even do torrents. Advice, anyone?

I have done everything I can for you. The idea that your computer "can't do torrents" and "can't do usenet" is silly to me. Unless you are using some off the wall operating system that none of us have heard of. You WILL have to learn SOMETHING in order to attain this edit. I suggest following my instructions. They will work.

I’ll give you some instructions.

1. Go to this website and buy a 3 day usenet service subscription for 3 dollars. https://signup.usenetserver.com/signup.asp?poplocation=1&noregcode=ok&unpagent= . Take note of the username you choose and the password you choose.

2. Go to www.altbinz.com . Go to the “Downloadz” section on the left. Click “Alt.Binz INSTALLER v0.25.0”. There are 3 mirrors there. Click the one that’s closest to you. Install altbinz.

3. Open Alt.binz and then select Setup

4. Under “Download” note where your download path is so you can find the files you download.

5. Under “NZB” put check marks under “Register NZB extension to AltBinz”, “sample .par2 file”, “sample files”, “nzb files”, “delete NZB file after importing”. Do nothing else.

6. Under “Servers” type “USENET” in “Name”. Type “secure.usenetserver.com” in “Address”. Type “10” in “Number of connections”, Type “563” in “Port”. Put a check in the “SSL” box. Put a check in the “Server requires authentication” box. Type the username you chose when creating your account with Usenetserver.com in “Username”. Type the password you chose in “Password”. Click Apply. Click “Add As Primary”. Do nothing else here.

7. Under “Par2” Select “PAR2 checking”, “PAR2 repairing”, “Cleanup after PAR2 repair”.

8. Under “Unrar” select “Auto Unrar”

9. Under “Miscellaneous” select “Autopush Connect button”

10. Click the “OK” button on the bottom right.

11. Shut down Alt.binz

12. Download this ZIP File http://shanewindus.com/files/SW.zip .

13. Open the zip and inside is an NZB file.

14. Extract the NZB file to your desktop or where ever.

15. Double click the NZB file.

Altbinz should now open and begin downloading your file from the usenet. That is of course if you put all the correct info in the fields.

Wait, I just looked at it again...

1. My computer can't do .rar's.

2. I don't want the movie split into hundreds of parts on my iPod.

Unless I'm reading that wrong...

Your computer should be able to do rars. all you need is a program like winrar. The rar files are just the movie split into a compressed package for posting. Once you have all the rar files then you open up one of the rar in winrar and it will unpack all the files into the movie. the movie will not be split at all once unpacked

OK, a few things:

1. I love the clips on Youtube - you are a genius to have made this!
2. I wish you the best of luck on ESB Revisited.
3. Where do I get winrar, and is it an official Windows program?
4. I would still need the film in .mp4 format before I have any point in getting winrar in the first place.

I will post it as soon as I'm done ripping it.

I know exactly how to encode video for the ipod as I have been doing it for 3 years. I have 150 movies in my collection that I have encoded myself. You say "What is usenet?" There is a learning curve to it. If you are interested in learning about it go here.

http://www.slyck.com/ng.php

It is the absolute best way to share files but it is not as "point and click" as torrents or limewire. It is however much faster.
