Decided to have a go at editing the Warner video to replace the Bosko intro in “Eleventh Hour”, as I thought it stuck out, being the only Mild Mannered short to not use Warner video throughout the whole short.

Using the MM edition as a guide, the opening credits were shortened to match, and the prologue (“streak of lightning”/”pounding surf”/”roaring hurricane”) was flown in from the next short, Destruction, Inc., which matched up perfectly. From the title card card onwards, the short is the same as the Mild Mannered Version, as is the entire audio.

Edit: Unfortunately, skimming through the shorts, the audio on Arctic Giant has a double echo effect, which is definitely not on the YouTube version, not to mention a nasty click right at the end.

Just an idea I had after seeing some VHS-style BluRay slipcases online

By request, here’s the '95 John Alvin covers, now with 14mm spines and BBFC/IFCO markings.

Not sure if these have been posted yet, but I found these textless versions of the Japanese posters for Empire & Jedi. They required a little bit of editing due to watermarks, so I’ve saved them as pngs lest I added another generation of jpeg compression artifacts.

Nah. The first guy isn’t called by name in the film and there’s no reason to believe he isn’t just another pilot.
I would like to hear a different voice dubbed for him though.

The first guy wasn’t even credited. Then again, neither was James Earl Jones. Also, every other canon source, including the script, says that Wedge said that line.

One of the more glaring errors in A New Hope was pilot Wedge being played by two different actors; Colin Higgins in the briefing scene, and Denis Lawson everywhere else, including the two sequels Empire & Jedi. It took until 2017 for this to be ‘corrected’, by simply saying that Colin Higgins was playing a different character, Col Takbright, who has an entire short story devoted to him in the anthology book “From A Certain Point Of View”.

To me, this is nothing more than a cop-out, as every other source prior attributes Higgins’ one line to Wedge. But how else could this be fixed?

Enter “Deepfakes”. High tech video editing using deep-learning algorithms to change people faces, usually to change someone’s facial appearance from one person to another, although it can also be used to change what someone is saying with use of different audio e.g an impersonator.

Now, the question isn’t “Can we change Higgins to look like Lawson in the briefing scene”. The answer to that is Yes. The question is, with the tools that are available to fans, can it be done in high quality and look professional? And should we do it? I feel like those are the more interesting questions.

Ok, no idea how I got Gareth Williams from Gareth Edwards, other than to say I think I knew someone with that name. Still, that’s no excuse. And while “retraux” was intentional (it’s a portmanteau of retro and faux), I’ve decided to change it since it’s clearly not a word everyone knows and would just confuse everyone. I’m sure there’s a better way to word that, but my linguistic skills are down the crapper at the minute.

Not sure which was harder; trying to fit the credit block onto the cover in a way that was readable or trying to write a blurb in a similar style to the other “Faces” covers. Anyway, here’s Rogue One.

Thanks, but I can’t take credit for the arrangement; as I mentioned earlier on the thread, it’s based on the French '95 Laserdiscs which, as ChainsawAsh said, has more breathing room, and isn’t a hot mess of pictures and words competing for space.

Huh. Didn’t realize how closely the Faces covers followed the John Alvin covers, at least the VHS covers; the Laserdisc covers have WAY too much text for a BluRay size cover. So, with a few a modifications, and without further ado, here’s my take on the '95 Faces covers.

In hindsight, it absolutely would have been better if that one missing frame was reinserted into 4K77. That way, it would be clearer what the objective of the 4KXX project is (preserve the entire trilogy, GOUT-standards be damned) and if nothing else we could have had these arguments ages ago!

Sorry, I meant 4k77 IS GOUT-synced, even though it’s missing at least one frame from the end of Reel 5 that was on the BluRay, and I believe at least a couple more from a French PAL laserdisc if I remember correctly. And then they turn around and change tactics for 4K83, adding every frame and breaking sync with tons of audio and sub options?

But, having read the GOUT-sync thread that CatBus referred to, I can kind of see where Williarob and the team are coming from; NTSC-GOUT has two frames missing, PAL-GOUT has one missing, their print has all three, why not add them all? I guess I was just on the side of trimming the two frames so everything else doesn’t break, however minor. Maybe 4K83 will be the new sync standard for RotJ? idk

I’m not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, it’s great to see the whole film being preserved. On the other hand, that means a lot of audio and subtitle options have to manually adjusted to compensate for just those two frames. I wouldn’t be so concerned except 4k77 was GOUT-synced, and we know that is also missing some frames, specifically from the end of reel 5 iirc, so why change tactics now?

Here’s some '95 International style BluRay covers. I’ve tried to make them as generic as possible, so they can be used for whatever version of the unaltered original trilogy you may have. Having said that, I believe these covers should fit the standard 12mm spine cases, as opposed to the 14mm cases used in some countries e.g. Australia. If anyone wants me to modify them for the wider spine or to add some classification markings, just let me know.

Was messing around in Photoshop, trying to recreate the actual '85 Triple Bill posters (the real ones, not the bootleg) and was pretty much finished when I had an epiphany; probably shouldn’t release it publicly lest someone less scrupulous than I tries to make a buck off it, even though I was only working at 72dpi and my sources were less than ideal. Not wanting to completely waste my time, I decided to make an HOMAGE to the '85 Triple Bill posters. But what would be the actual subject?
