Will those who hate the SE OT and bought the OOT DVD's..
Time
Right now I've just switched the discs' positions in the case, much like many others have done.

Rather than start a new thread, I figured this would be a good place to ask:

For everyone who preordered through FYE, did you cut out your UPC code and mail it with the form? I have to get mine mailed soon, but I'm not sure if I need to send the UPC code or not. The rebate form (I uploaded it here [90KB PDF] so that you can check it out) doesn't specifically say to send the UPCs and I'd prefer to not butcher my sleeve inserts if possible, although it would only be minor cuts. OTOH, I'd like to make sure that my rebate actually goes through instead of it being declined and tossed and I never hear about it ever again.

I have not, not unless neither one knows the others language and in that case they are not really carrying on a conversation. If you stop and think about it the scene with Greedo (and later with Jabba in ANH) was really odd, Han is speaking in basic, and Greedo in what I will assume is Huttese (or Rodian), and they both understand each other perfectly. I am bylingual, and I know how confusing it is to try to think in two different languages at once. If Han knew Huttese, which he had to to understand Greedo, then why not speak in Huttese, or for Greedo why no speak Basic. I think George was trying to make his galaxy seem larger and more complex than one of the major sci-fi shows at the time, Star Trek, where everybody spoke English no matter where you went. I think that was a great idea, and it is cool having alien languages in subtitles. They did a really good job of this in ROTJ where they have to have threepio translating everything Jabba says and then translating things back for Jabba, same goes for their interaction with Ewoks.

I'd never thought of it like that before, but now that I do I definitely agree with what you're saying. I always thought that having a major character subtitled for an entire movie was a bad idea, and this is just another reason why.

It took awhile to figure out exactly how it was going to work, but it's incredibly powerful (and suspenseful) now. All accomplished without any Force lightning, any rocks being thrown, or Yoda bouncing around with a lightsaber. And, I've cut out all of Yoda's ridiculous facial expressions and hand movements while lifting the pillar, in keeping with his teachings in ESB ("Size matters not"). I'm confident that the "old" George Lucas would like this sequence

This is very exciting to hear. This is one of my most hated scenes from the movie, and I'm very interested to see how you've improved it (not that it would take much to improve it.)

ANAKIN: “Your attempt on Padme’s life will cost you, Dooku. Prepare to meet your destiny.”
DOOKU: “Forget the girl. She’s replaceable.”
ANAKIN: “But your head isn’t.”
DOOKU: “I see you get as much fulfillment out of killing as I do.”
ANAKIN: “In your case, YES!” Anakin charges.

No offense to you, Weeze, but just reading that makes me cringe. I cannot imagine actually seeing/hearing it in a movie. It just doesn't seem like a natural exchange at all.

haha nice.

I guess if LFL end up releasing a flippin' sweet set next year, I'll just have to buy them again.

I am starting to regret preordering them, although with the free shipping, rebates, and the 10% off code (FYE) they really aren't going to be that expensive...

I know that's not the point, though. The point is that we shouldn't even be having this discussion because the September releases should be anamorphic!

Now I'm a relative newbie to this forum (I've lurked a lot over the past week, but this will only be post #2 for me), so what I'm going to say will probably go against what a lot of you are saying.

Here's my position: I'd love an anamorphic widescreen version of the original film as it was originally shown, but right now it looks pretty unlikely that that's what we're going to be getting.

I'm going to buy the new releases regardless (actually I preordered them through FYE.com today). Why?

  1. I own the OT 1997 SE on VHS. They're getting pretty worn out.[/li]
  2. regardless of whether or not the OUT is being considered a "bonus" feature to the 2004 OT SE, I want to see both versions.[/li]
or someone like me it's win-win (even if it's a lose on the anamorphic widescreen) because I'm replacing my crappy, worn out VHS SE with the 2004 SE and I'm getting the original version on DVD.

Over the past few days I've read through this entire thread (okay, so maybe I skimmed through some of the EP. I talk), and even though I was too late for a lot of the video clips that were posted (yousendit sucks for this sort of thing), the screenshots look amazing.

I just had to register to say keep up the good work, Trooperman! I Can't wait to see the SotDS finished product!
