***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
so, is anybody NOW really doing a conversion to NTSC? If not, I will do this over the weekend. Still I would enjoy some more input first if you guys were satisfied with the RTJ conversion.
And if someone else is doing it or has already done it, just tell me how to get it, so it cna be torrented and uplaoded for the masses (and be less attractive on ebay).

Anyways, if anyone can make a copy, please PM me. I have no access to a DVD burner and I'm DESPERATE to see it.

well, this documentary is better spread than any was before. If they don't find it now for free, what else can you do?

It has all the menus, all the extras and even about the same chapters (the easter egg is also there). I tried to copy what jambe did to 100%, which added up to about 95% accuracy.
So you will hardly spot much of a difference at all.
The "about" segment was based on a still menu and I was not able to extract that, so I had to screenshoot it, rearrange the size for NTSC and it fits kind of, but you can see a little stutter there, when the transitions change to the image.

One thing, for future reference: ISO formatting is tricky (at least for my tech-ignorant self) because it means if I want to help seed a disc later on, having since burned it and freed up my hard drive, I have to re-convert it to an ISO before it's any good to anyone. Straight-up TS folders, I can just drag and drop. Thoughts?

I doubt you can recreate the iso file. So this just rules you out from helping the seeding. Pity.

About the upspeed problem: yes, this is correct, the PAL timing stays and it is VERY hard to get rid of that (and I doubt it is worth that - but that is just my European pro PAL opinion ;-)).

Oh, and about "the fix". the NTSC vesion is SL, no fix needed, because there is no layer break.

audio does NOT have to be fixed, because other than with a NTSC2PAL transfer, there is no frame loss or time difference to be compensated. It is the same audio as for the PAL version.
It works like this:
you have a 2:12h PAL version, resize it with CCE to a 2:12h PAL version with 720x480 (NTSC size), then use a pulldown program to change the framerate from 25 to 29.97 and there it is: NTSC (2:3 pulldown). The time stays the exact same, so the audio stays in sync of course.

I watched it. And I loved it. It is pro-looking movie integrated documentary, just the way I can bear and even enjoy documentary and even though I am not the star wars geek, I really was entertained for the entire time of the movie. Just great and so much work!!! You have my absolute and full respect, jambe.

So it had to be released to the NTSC people out there anyway, now let's see if you like it (not the work of jhambe, because that is great, but the NTSC transfer I did).

The PAL DL version is now uploaded to Rapidshare. If you want the links, just shoot me an email.

The NTSC version is about finished. I still have to run a view testruns, so that it all is checked and works fine.
So far it looks good.
I made a 5-pass CCE encoding with an average bitrate of 3500 of every file. It was a bit difficutl to set up the DVD exactly likeit was, but I think I got it solved quite well, nothing at all is missing and it looks about the same.
Judging from my personal opinion I would say the quality loss from the DL PAL to SL NTSC is no more than 10%, but I leave that to you quality freaks.

I will upload the NTSC version tomorrow to Rapidshare and after that, hopefully with some help form RS downloaders to torrent.
