This version hardly contains any vampires. It is true.

The problem in Germany is, that DVD sells via internet are only open for movies maximim rated as R (16), but the R rating is hard to achieve in germany for movies with strong violence in them. It is also forbidden to advertise for x-rated movies (18). Still the movie companies do want to sell their DVDs to a large audience and that is why there is for almost every x-rated movie an r-rated edition.
Examples:
Blade 1 without blood
From DuskTil Dawn with hardly any vampires, no shot through the hand, etc
Die Hard 1, with no violence at all
Hannibal without the brain scene, without the gut scene, without the pigs... etc
Star Ship troopers without beheadings, with hardly any bugs.

and the list never ends...

and the best example for German editions:
DAWN OF THE DEAD- GERMAN 16 edition
this one features no close up zombies at all, no flesh eating and hardly any blood. Still the movie lengtgh is 141 minutes... now how did they do that?

German dubbing has produced some infamous classics, unfortunately in German of course. Best example may be MY NAME IS NOBODY. I knew the German dubbed version from when I was a kid and finally I got to see the English version. Now that was hard to believe. Almost every line was different and in the German dub the actors had to speak more than double the text than in the English version.
Example? Ok.
There is a scene with a gunman with large front teeth. The gunman aims for his gun while Nobody turns his back on him. Nobody draws his gun points it over his shoulder and says:
English version: "It ain't fair shooting a man in the back."
German version: "Mouse-toothy, I think you need another pack of hot ears, I guess."

They are even talking in this movie when no one opens his mouth, nevertheless this synchro is hillarious.
AND the made a sequel to My Name is Nobody from this movie: Genio, duo compari, un pollo (1976) by replacing the name of the leading character from Joe to Nobody.

They did the almost same thing with the persuaders http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/25/53/28m.jpg
this show was rather not funny in the original, but presented one laugh after the other in the German dub.

just my 2 cents: correct whatever you can. A fanedit must not feel like fanedit, but like a movie. If you want your audience entertained the best (and I know you do), then correct your version, before giving away one with obvious flaws.
Don't get me wrong here, I know, every CBB edit has its flaws either, I just want to state that as long as you can avoid compromises you should do it. So, my vote is: correct it.

War of the Worlds the extinctive cut (Released)

thank you for your comments, IRANTANPLAN. Yes, some transitions were rather rough. Deep impact has a different aspect ratio than War of the Worlds, true, it also has very different colouring, also Terminator 2 and 3 where the nuclear war scenes came from. All these scenes were recoloured to better fit them into the movie, but still they don't for a 100%. Still the blurryness is part of the Deep Impact movie. There is also some pixelisation towards the end that I am absolutely not proud of, still I think it alltogether worked rather well. Well, the voiceover at the end was kind of necessary, because the movie started with one and it was already very difficult to get the viewer believe the change of perspective from Ray to a universal point of view.
The basement scene was very difficult, picturewise and scorewise and you are right,a continous piece of score would have been better, but since we needed the original voices and sounds wherever possible, this was, well, probably about the best we could do at that time. Still I find myself thinking about several scenes and I get the feeling that this project is not totally closed. This was such an ambitious project and it was such a pity we couldn't improve it anymore picturewise, because our project files were corrupted... oh well.
If you ever find the time to make a "corrected" WOTW tec version, just go for it, I would love to see that.
