A possible reason why the lightsabers are so messed up in ROTJ
Time
So, I went through the DVD active article again on the changes throught the OT, and saw this particular quote regarding the lightsabers.
"there is a definite increase in brightness and contrast." That refers to the original SE.
Now, I'd bet you've all seen the catastrophe that is the '04 sabers, but in case you haven't:

And here's the SE's, just for fun:

I'm wondering if perhaps they took the SE masters and just downed the brightness/contrast to closer match the original release, and ignored the lightsabers. I apologize if this is common knowledge, by the way. Comments?

I know I do this a lot, but I wanted to quote this just for the sheer truth to it.

*is a youngun at 13* Thank you George Lucas for bringing us Star Wars. No I'm not a kiss-ass fan, but I just thought the man deserves some credit. Thank you for remastering SW, thank you for making Han Shoot First, thank you for all the new controvercial scenes.
Guess which two are sarchastic?
In all seriousness, SW is worthy of being celebrated on its thirtieth. Congrats to the fans for sticking to it, congrats to Mr. Lucas for having a vision (although it seems the dark side clouded his vision until '97 ,) and congrats to all those fans who are willing to educate the uneducated in the OT such as myself.

It's a smaller, less intensely and rediculously moderated community were posts critical of SW aren't seen as some sort of personal attack on the people talking about it. At least that's what I gather from discussion I've heard about those sites.

I quote this for truth; you've summed up my opinion very well.
Hey, can you read people's minds over the internet?

Criticism - the team is trying to make a much better version than the GOUT. In the end, if I understand your explanations correctly, it would probably have the same amount of grain unless they made it very blurry. However, I think you're being a bit hard on them. I totally support the X0 project myself, so I'm a bit biased.
You should switch the screenshots back (and make them links rather than images,) it looks much worse now IMO.
EDIT: Sluggo's post below hit my opinion right on the nail
