No workprint now even exists for Evil Dead 2 as far as we know

I'm actaully getting what the trader purports to be a workprint in a trade very soon, it should be on its way to me this week. His description referred to scenes not seen anywhere else. I'm very curious as to the authenticity of it.

Wanna know something. The Evil Dead 2 workprint was even mentioned in The Evil Dead Companion book as well.

And isn't there an old, old trailer for ED under the title of Book Of The Dead? I'm sure I've seen one advertised on Raimi Super-8 bootleg compilations before. Maybe it was one they cut together before Irvin Shapiro told them, "Fellas, if you name a film Book Of The Dead, people are gonna think they have to read for an hour and a half..."

if anyone can get hold of this, that would be great!

Now, though, I have to ask... And thats because I'm really unaware still of these things, how do I get the movies these covers represent?

Well, first of all turn your PM's on. Then send me a private message. I'm a snail mail trader. Never pay cash for something that someone out there can hook you up with!

You have PM!

A project by Bigrob and ReverendBeastly

BOOK OF THE DEAD - A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PREMIERE THAT TOOK PLACE AT THE REDFORD THEATRE, DETROIT 15th OCTOBER 1981

http://www.horror-wood.com/EDEAD.jpg

This is what we are planning to do. The plan is to recreate the original premiere. The film that was shown was titled Book of the Dead and what we aim to acheive is a slight re-editing and preservation of certain elements that are not availble on DVD. The information of this release can be found in The Evil Dead Companion book

Thes are the specs of the SL DVD we hope to acheive

: Original Fullscreen ratio of 1:33.1 (with the missing sfx shot of lightning hitting the tree restored.)

: Original 1.0 Mono soundtrack (restored from the Japanese Laserdisc, no 5.1 remixes or tweaks here!)

: Original Premiere title (new title BOTD will be recreated for this release)

: Special Features Include -

  • On screen text commentary by Bruce Campbell (text will be taken from The Evil Dead Companion)

  • Within The Woods short movie (Hopefully!!)

These specs are TBC at the moment. The Re-editing and DVD authoring will be done ReverendBeastly. I mearly suggested the idea and supplied the materials.

any ideas for this release please feel free to share them! any cover art would be nice as well!

stay tuned

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!
Time
I have been reading The Evil Dead Companion and have come up with an idea.......

BOOK OF THE DEAD

A reconstruction of the first showing in Detroit 15th October 1981. with the OAR of 1.33:1, the original Mono soundtrack and no tweaks to the original film (see dvdcompare for notes). i am hoping someone would be intrested to jump aboard this. i was thinking of also changing the title to BOOK OF THE DEAD in both the start and end credits. these were the only changes before the film was released in cinemas. In The Evil Dead Companion, there is a text commentary by Bruce Campbell as they explain the overall story of Evil Dead. i was thinking of including this as subtitle track during the movie as it is full of intresting facts and jokes. llots of good material there! I was also hoping to include a good quality copy of Within The Woods as a special feature. I know there is floating round here somewhere!

I can supply the following

Evil Dead - Original 1.33:1 Ratio, taken from the OOP Elite DVD. no changes to SFX it is missing one shot however of the lightning hitting the tree. This shot can be found on the Widescreen DVD and in Fullscreen on the R2 UK Evil Dead Trilogy boxset. I have read that the original AB disc (the one with 5 cover designs) has a better picture but i can't confirm this as i have not seen it.

Evil Dead - Japanese Laserdisc Preservation. the original untouched mono soundtrack! recorded onto DVD+R

A photocopy of the Evil Dead Companion section for the Bruce Campbell notes on the original film.

Just an idea though. i would do this myself but i don't have the time or resources to put this together.

Well, in the original Star Wars Classic, the film isn't actually running at the normal 24 frames per second. It was edited in 24 frames per second, but Final Cut Pro, when exporting it, changed it to 30 frames per second, adding lots of "junk" frames. So the movement isn't smooth, it's slightly staggered, which is evident in camera moves.

I also edited it using the miniDV codec, which is a very limited codec - when the codec comes up with oversaturated reds, blues, yellows or other colors, it renders them as blocky blocky blocks - looks very ugly. I now use the PhotoJPEG codec for DVD work which isn't limited in that way.

What I'm saying is, it would just look better if I edited it again.

My source for the laserdisc material in Star Wars Classic was the Cowclops 2.0 transfer, which was a very nice transfer, but for Empire and Jedi I had discovered Moth3r's superior PAL transfers - which I wish I'd used for Star Wars Classic. Now there's the 2006 Lucasfilm transfer, which is superior to the other laserdisc transfers out there, including even Moth3r's in most ways.

In addition there were a couple of errors in the edit. Anyone who's seen the edit knows that somehow a CGI shot I had deleted accidentally returned and slipped into the final Death Star battle by mistake ....

So yeah, a few things I could do differently.

I did notice that in ANH! but i alo noticed that the extended oola scene in ROTJ is present as well. that was filmed for the 1997 special edition!

DVD's are top notch though! can't wait for 2.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!
